  • Ardor vs. the Competition , Pt. 4: Waves

A new article in the “Ardor vs. the Competition” article series was published last week.

The fifth in the series, the benefits of Ardor over other competing blockchain solutions are explored in great depth.

A couple months ago Segfaulsteve began writing a wonderful and detailed account of Ardor and the many advantages it has over the competition. His first post highlighted the technological supremacy Ardor has over Plasma, the next installment talked about the LISK blockchain and the functionality provided by it, and the third compared Ardor against NEM/Mijin/Catapult. The fourth covered the debacle with the IOTA code base.

  • Dan Charbonneau, CEO of CBT Nuggets, joins the NxtCommunity Slack

Hooray for growth and big names – last week the CEO of CBT Nuggets joined the Nxt Community slack.

Using the alias charbo, he wrote:

charbo in #trading channel
I’ll introduce myself since I’ve been the topic of conversation here. My name is Dan Charbonneau and I’m the CEO of CBT Nuggets. At CBT Nuggets we make IT training and have a mission of continually improving the learning experience for IT professionals. Training (education) is like working out at the gym. It’s good for you but it’s hard work. It’s tough to get motivated to do it. We’re developing a cryptocurrency to be deployed as an ARDR child chain that will provide a financial incentive to learning.

The reason why I’m buying so much ARDR is that when we launch it isn’t going to be with an ICO. It’s self-funded. The value of our cryptocurrency will be pegged to ARDR on a 1-to-1 basis. The initial launch will be with 50M of the new cryptocurrency paid for with 50M ARDR. The currency will be redeemable on a 1-to-1 basis for ARDR so it has value out of the gate.

Learners will buy training content with the new crypto and consume the content. There are quizzes throughout the content so you can prove you learned the material. When you answer the quizzes correctly, 30% of your purchase price is returned to you. In addition, everything you learn is stored in the blockchain so we will maintain a lifelong record of learning for you. When you interview for a job, you’ll be able to show the interviewer everything you’ve learned. The transcript will of course be private only for you and shared with the people you choose.

Anyone with the ability to teach can upload content. Once the content is vetted, it’s listed in the catalog and they earn currency with each purchase.

All holders of the new currency do our version of forging. 5% of every transaction is distributed as a block reward on a weighted random basis.

I’m a believer in ARDR, and in blockchains in general.

By the way, I need 50M of the new currency because we’ll be offering the currency for validated learning to all of our existing customers at cbtnuggets.com and I plan to give away the equivalent of 100ARDR with every download of the new client along with profile creation.

I’m hoping this changes education worldwide, providing greater access to quality content and adding competition and the principles of the free market economy to education at all levels.

  • Travin Keith presented – “Blockchain: Making It More Than Just a Trend”

Our good friend Travin presented, on behalf of Agavon, at BrightTALK. Entitled “Blockchain: Making it More than Just a Trend” his talk speaks to the vast potential that lies untapped in the blockchain. What we know it to be today is just scratching the surface of what it will be in the not too distant future.

He wrote:
About this webinar

Perhaps one of the buzziest of buzzwords for the past few years has been “Blockchain”. But for those who are well-versed in the technology and the goings on of the industry, it is definitely more than just hype.

Join this session where a panel of experienced Blockchain specialists will discuss:

-Viability of Use Cases – Just because a centralized database can be more efficient doesn’t mean it’s the most viable

-Preventing Blockchain from Being Just a Trend – if blockchain isn’t viable as the solution, it shouldn’t be used

-Public vs Private Blockchain Use

-State of the Industry – Understanding that a lot of the platforms and frameworks are in their early stage of development and that support may not be readily available

  • Travin Keith will be a Speaker at the 10th Heidelberg Blockchain Meetup

Damn, this guy is good and busy! He revealed last week that he will be a speaker at the prestigious Heidelberg Meetup.

He wrote:

Travin Keith is a long-time member of the blockchain and cryptocurrency community since 2013 and has been involved in numerous projects and communities such as the Nxt Foundation, SICOS, Hyperledger, BitcoinMarkets, and his own company, Agavon. He will be starting off his presentation with anecdotal stories about his early days in the space and how he came to work full time in the industry while living in the northernmost town in the world – Longyearbyen, Svalbard, then will go into a few details about his current projects as well as observations and thoughts about the current state of the space. His presentation will end with an interesting free use case currently presented in story form.

  • Crypto Woman – Let’s Build a Blockchain Together!

Last week American YouTube blockchain celebrity, Crypto Woman, annonced that she had a great idea for implementing a secure and cheap messaging service built around the messaging protocol built into the NXT platform. She is still looking for people willing to help her make her vision of a cheap and secure blockchain based secure messaging platform a reality.

She wrote:

“Build it and they will come…”

– Some of you noticed I am building a blockchain on NXT – both as a public service and demonstration of how easily it can be done. I am hoping the community will take part in this and have been looking for ways to open the dialog. Now I want / need input on how to rightly distribute the tokens. There will be other conversations too. I have a hosted Zoom and have set up a scheduled meeting for every morning at this time (6am EST – 7am). Please download the Zoom app and join me here. • Janus – Status Update

Bjorn updates us and we continue to look forward to the launch of JNSHash mining, whatever it will be!

bjorn –  I have to finish work with a developer before I can explain the second aspect, thanks for your patience.

JNSHash Mining

Someone is going to have fun with his “adult Legos” as these cards undergo significant modding.

ETA: For information regarding JNSHash and how it will affect Janus tokens comes second week of November. At that time another part of video progress should follow. One thing, for fairness sake is that part of the requirement, if you desire to partake in the mining aspect, JNS user must have a minimum of 100k tokens. (100k min JNS for the base tier, 4 tiers total).

There is another step but its another benefit and not been made public. Not even XT groups know this yet. I have to finish work with a developer before I can explain the second aspect, thanks for your patience. comjnsxt and JanusXT already qualify. Top tier is anything over 2 mil JNSHash. All I have for today, be well all.

ascendus – JNSHash will mine Bitcoin Gold right after the chain goes live and GPU mining software release.

  • Bitswift – Status Update

Bitswift continues to look to build an advisory board. If you own a significant amount of Bitswift tokens (15,000 +) you are elligible to be a voting member on the advisory board that governs the future rollouts and implemetations of the Bitswift tokens. The tokenswap that ended a couple of weeks ago has nearly half a million unclaimed tokens in it.

They wrote:

We are still looking to build a Bitswift advisory board. Seat members must hold 15,000 Bitswift tokens. PM us if you are interested.

balance remaining unclaimed at this time: 446,879.3936604

Last day for token swap. If you are still on the old blockchain you are going to have a bad time

We will make some formal announcement about the outcome of the swap, including what is to happen with the unclaimed tokens. We will use them to transparently develop the Bitswift ecosystem, we also promised we would be eliminating a portion from supply adding increased scarcity attribute to all remaining. Our shop is having products added it to it as we speak, its quite a tedious process but we have hired someone on now as dedicated product manager. We have also started to put together a dev team to start rolling out on our digital product line. The future looks good #bitswift.

  • Lior Yaffe in Medium – Cardano More Secure than NXT?

In what can only be called outrageously false, Cardano claimed last week that they were somehow more secure than NXT. Clearly they did not do their homework before writing this claim. Lior Yaffe responded, point for point, in his Medium blog, throughly putting this claim of Cardano’s six feet under the ground: dead and buried.

“The first significant work on proof of stake was conducted by the team of the Nxt cryptocurrency, but their protocol had significant flaws and no formal verification.”

He wrote:

You get that? A token launched to mainnet 10 days ago claims that the NXT POS protocol which is running securely in production for 4 years, as a public blockchain, in hacker infested environment “had significant flaws”. Maybe they should say “has significant flaws”, what are these flaws? They didn’t say.

I decided to take a look at their Whitepaper but ran into a 50+ pages wall of text full of mathematical jargon which is practically unreadable for a software engineer like myself.

Then browsed through their documentation and quickly found pages like DIFFERENCES BETWEEN PAPER AND IMPLEMENTATION i.e. the paper describes an amazingly secure system (?) but this is not what they implemented. Then they describe a naive UPDATE SYSTEM MODEL which lets the stake holders vote if to upgrade to a new version, good luck with that, and BOOTSTRAP ERA which allows only “bootstrap stakeholders” to generate blocks and will end “when bootstrap stakeholders will vote for it”. Why would they vote for it?

Dear Cardano team, please show some respect.

  • Cointelegraph – Industry Experts Believe Bitcoin Headed to $6,000

Lior Yaffe, Nxt & Ardor core developer was interviewed about his take on the ceiling for Bitcoin. He sees a ceiling, but the supremacy of BTC is not going away immediately as it is the fiat currency of the crypto world, much like the USD is the fiat currency of the financial world.

His quote:

“The recent increase in Bitcoin’s value is likely due to it being the de-facto exchange currency between the fiat and crypto worlds, much the same as the US dollar is between fiat currencies. It is quite obvious that Bitcoin is not going to replace any fiat currency any time soon due to scaling issues and the waste generated by the POW process. Going forward I predict that most innovation in the crypto world in the mid to long term will take place on POS based blockchains, but being the bridge between the worlds gives Bitcoin a huge short term boost.”

  • Improprieties Cointelegraph Article

We do not usually talk about propaganda articles promoting other coins in this newsletter, but every now and then we are forced to, specially when we realize that these articles contain, for unknown reasons, some improprieties concerning the Nxt blockchain. That has been the case with Cointelegraph this time:

…Pure PoS without continual use of PoW was first conceptualized by NXT but its first actual implementation occurred on Blackcoin (BLK). Blackcoin was …released in February 2014, a month before NXT

That is the only mention of Nxt, the first 100% POS crypto platform, that you’ll read in an article which is, supposedly, devoted to PoS coins. And that statement is a blatant and outright lie.

Nxt launched in November 2013. It can be verified here, here or here, or in many other publically available resources. Even Cointelegraph itself mentions the date Nxt was launched in some of their previous articles. Some users and well-known members of the Nxt Comwell-knowne also pointed Cointelegraph their mistake:

Apenzl commented

Nxt launched in November 2013 as the first 100% PoS coin ever. Who doesn’t know that? It even says so on Nxt’s website but you don’t provide a link to it – why?

It looks like you let some dude from Blackcoin community tell your what’s the recent story of PoS, and then you call yourself “Cryptoeducator”? Please do your research and stop spreading misinformation, thank you.

The Nxt core dev team releases the world’s first scalable PoS blockchain-as-a-service platform in Q4 this year. It’s not some “idea”, it’s finished and you can use it on testnet, yet you do not mention this acknowledged project at all. Why o why don’t you think a scalable PoS child chain platform with built in smart contracts like p2p marketplace, Aset Exchange, crowdfunding, dividend payment, data cloud, shuffling, voting, etc, belongs in “The History and Evolution of Proof of Stake”?

We expect Cointelegraph to fix their mistake as soon as possible. A media with this reputation should not tolerate this. Jelurida and Blonde 2.0 are already pulling their strings to make this happen.

Blonde 2.0 rep spoke with the editor of CT and she will make sure that they will amend it.

  • Themerkle – Accenture and BNP Paribas Experiment with Nxt Blockchain Technology

Article about the growing acceptance of NXT blockchain solutions being used by large financial institutions to secure their transactions. A very informative read.

TheMerkle banks NXT Blockchain

The number of different cryptocurrencies coming to market over the years is almost impossible to count. Some of the older altcoins are still around today, although not everyone will remember most of them. Nxt is one of the older currencies in existence, though it is mainly known for its services to developers these days. Specifically, it now allows for more transparent bank transfers, which is of great interest to BNP Paribas and Accenture Spain.

  • TradingView – NXT/USDT Poloniex – This Particular Pair Includes TWO Schematics

Those two Schematics are Wyckoff Distribution Schematic #1 and Wyckoff Accumulation Schematic #2 . As usual, I have copied and pasted the cover chart within these comments for easier view of text bubbles: snapshot Here is a link to an image of Wyckoff Distribution Schematic #1: https://imgur.com/nOJl0Dd Here is a link to an image of Wyckoff Accumulation Schematic #2: https://imgur.com/945poSJ Here is a link with “basic” understanding of Wyckoff and his teachings: http://stockcharts.com/school/doku.php?id=chart_school:market_analysis:the_wyckoff_method Famous quote of Wyckoff: ”…all the fluctuations in the market and in all the various stocks should be studied as if they were the result of one man’s operations. Let us call him the Composite Man, who, in theory, sits behind the scenes and manipulates the stocks to your disadvantage if you do not understand the game as he plays it; and to your great profit if you do understand it.” Wyckoff referred to them as the Composite Man. I refer to them as the “Composite Group.” We appear to be in the “late” stages of Phase “B” in both Schematics. So, lets look at Wykoff’s description of Phase B in “both” schematics: First, Wyckoff remarks on Phase B of Distribution Schematic #2: Phase B: The function of phase B is to build a cause in preparation for a new downtrend. During this time, institutions and large professional interests are disposing of their long inventory and initiating short positions in anticipation of the next markdown. The points about phase B in distribution are similar to those made for phase B in accumulation, except that the large interests are net sellers of shares as the TR -0.80% evolves, with the goal of exhausting as much of the remaining demand as possible. This process leaves clues that the supply/demand balance has tilted toward supply instead of demand. For instance, SOWs are usually accompanied by significantly increased spread and volume to the downside. And his remarks on upcoming Phase C: [By the way, TR -0.80% = Trading Range; NOT a stock to trade] Phase C: In distribution, phase C may reveal itself via an upthrust (UT) or UTAD. As noted above, a UT is the opposite of a spring. It is a price move above TR -0.80% resistance that quickly reverses and closes in the TR -0.80% . This is a test of the remaining demand. It is also a bull trap—it appears to signal the resumption of the uptrend but in reality is intended to “wrong-foot” uninformed break-out traders. A UT or UTAD allows large interests to mislead the public about the future trend direction and to sell additional shares at elevated prices to such break-out traders and investors before the markdown begins. In addition, a UTAD may induce smaller traders in short positions to cover and surrender their shares to the larger interests who have engineered this move. Aggressive traders may wish to initiate short positions after a UT or UTAD. The risk/reward ratio is often quite favorable. However, the “smart money” repeatedly stops out traders who initiate such short positions with one UT after another, so it is often safer to wait until phase D and an LPSY. Often demand is so weak in a distribution TR -0.80% that price does not reach the level of the BC -0.35% or initial ST 0.45% . In this case, phase C’s test of demand may be represented by a UT of a lower high within the TR -0.80% . So, their’s a possibility we may not go as high as some may think. Yes, it’s going up at least “near” the top of the trading range in my opinion. Could it go higher and negate Phase “E” ??? Not sure, time will tell… Notes will be provided shortly for Wyckoff remarks on Phase B of Accumulation Schematic #1: 14 hours ago Comment: Phase B: In Wyckoff analysis, phase B serves the function of “building a cause” for a new uptrend (See Wyckoff Law #2 – “Cause and Effect”). In phase B, institutions and large professional interests are accumulating relatively low-priced inventory in anticipation of the next markup. The process of institutional accumulation may take a long time (sometimes a year or more), and involves purchasing shares at lower prices and checking advances in price with short sales. There are usually multiple STs during Phase B, as well as upthrust-type actions at the upper end of the TR. Overall, the large interests are net buyers of shares as the TR evolves, with the goal of acquiring as much of the remaining floating supply as possible. Institutional buying and selling imparts the characteristic up-and-down price action of the trading range. Early on in Phase B, the price swings tend to be wide, accompanied by high volume. As the professionals absorb the supply, however, the volume on downswings within the TR tends to diminish. When it appears that supply is likely to have been exhausted, the stock is ready for Phase C. Phase C: It is in phase C that the stock price provides goes through a decisive test of the remaining supply, allowing the “smart money” operators to ascertain whether the stock is ready to be marked up. As noted above, a spring is a price move below the support level of the TR established in phases A and B that quickly reverses and moves back into the TR. It is an example of a bear trap because the drop below support appears to signal resumption of the downtrend. In reality, though, this marks the beginning of a new uptrend, trapping the late sellers, or bears. In Wyckoff’s method, a successful test of supply represented by a spring (or a shakeout) provides a high-probability trading opportunity. A low-volume spring (or a low-volume test of a shakeout) indicates that the stock is likely to be ready to move up, so this is a good time to initiate at least a partial long position. The appearance of a SOS shortly after a spring or shakeout validates the analysis. As noted in Accumulation Schematic #2, however, the testing of supply can occur higher up in the TR without a spring or shakeout; when this occurs, the identification of phase C can be challenging. 14 hours ago Comment: It is my opinion that we should pay more attention to Accumulation Schematic #1 with its notes rather than Distribution Schematic #2 with it’s notes. I recommend you divide up into 3rd’s what you’re willing to invest in your trading with this pair. One 3rd for an entry NOW. Second 3rd held in reserve for a pull back Final 3rd held in reserve for Sign of Strength (SOS) If there is no pull back, you decide on if and/or when that other 3rd is to be engaged at a point of your choosing.

  • Jelurida and Representatives of Nxt Foundation, Agavon and Nxter Magazine in Barcelona

Last week there was an informal meeting between the core members of the above companies while attending the Blockchain Solutions Forum in Barcelona. Opportunities for photo-ops were plentiful and we have many permutations of smiling people to share! This was an opportunity for various members of the respective teams to be co-located, some for the first time ever! The community bonds between Nxter, Nxt Foundation, and Jelurida run deep and we are always thankful and appreciative of the opportunities to work with them to rule the world promote Nxt / Ardor / Ignis solutions.

Kristina, of Jelurida, wrote:

Hi, everybody! We had a great time at the Blockchain solutions forum last three days in Barcelona! It was not an ordinary conference for us because all Jelurida members had to be in one place (and this does not happen so often but also because this time we got to meet so many friends, thanks for joining us travin, ruben bc, vanbreuk, fsarrias, igmaca! And thanks to everybody who stopped at our “booth”! Looking forward to the meetup tomorrow and also to some sightseeing in beautiful Barcelona!

Riker  speaking at “Blockchain Solutions Forum” in Barcelona

Riker: I think it was good exposure. Dozens of presenters before me talked about the ICOs and all the wonderful projects they are going to implement. Then I came last and spoke about how they can implement it.

Lior Yaffe himself has written a post about this event that we mention later in this very same newsletter.

  • Crypto Woman – Let’s Build a Blockchain Together!

Elizabeth, the Crypto Woman, released an informative video about a use case for the blockchain: encrypted messaging. She enthusiastically promoted the NXT encrypted messaging platform. According to her, the reason the feature is not more widely used is that sending an encrypted message is a transaction and that requires a transaction fee of 1 NXT. Her stated goal is to develop a blockchain exclusively for encrypted messaging that has very low transaction fees, think micro Satoshi (10^-8 BTC/ 10000000 Satoshi = 1 Bitcoin) cheap. The NXT platform will be the base for this new blockchain but she is recruiting help from the best and brightest minds in the blockchain community to get around the integer transactional fee structure that underpins the Nxt platform.

She wrote:

I’m Elizabeth and if you’ve seen my earlier videos you will know that I’m building a blockchain for business. I have been studying several use cases to apply a blockchain solution to and I want to explore all of them with you. Since I started this journey, I’ve realized an immediate need and so we are going to sidestep and segue into a blockchain project right now.

In my online chats and in-coffeeshop discussions with people I realize there is a huge need for encrypted messaging. From places in the world that are closely monitoring even the most private conversations to organizations that are burdened with the cumbersome logistics of protecting sensitive client information, there is a growing cry for a simple, straightforward way to communicate privately.

The Encrypted messaging feature of the NXT blockchain has solved that problem and it’s been used effectively for several years. But there is a reason it isn’t more widely used. Each message is seen as a transaction on the blockchain and every transaction costs one NXT coin – which today is the equivalent of about 7 cents here in the United States. This is cost prohibitive for conversations and so has not been widely used.

As a public service, I am going to create a blockchain for messaging with very low transaction fees. This messaging blockchain will be built using the NXT platform and will be an encrypted messaging tool anyone can use – anywhere in the world.

My next step will be to approach the community of developers and blockchain enthusiasts of NXT for their insight and help. Stay tuned. This is going to happen soon!

Be sure to follow my YouTube channel and find me on Twitter at @TheCryptoWoman to take part of building this blockchain with me.

  • Janus – Status Update

Janus released a video teaser for their new side project JNSHash. Coinciding with this is their update on the mod process as they upgrade and overclock Vega 56 graphics cards into cheaper versions of the Vega 64. Once all the GPU rigs have been modded they will be applied towards the new JNSHash project. Janus co-founder, Bjorn, will likely have this project ready for the holiday season so we eagerly anticipate announcing more news as it is released.

The Janus team wrote:

Hi Janus community, just a quick update:
We have begun the process of bios modding several and *Vega 56 cards* and turning them into Vega 64. So far all cards modded successful.

We will be tweaking gpu rigs for several projects upcoming but will keep everyone aware when that comes.

Yes we know that people want to know how this will affect _Janus tokens_ and that info will come after phase 3 is complete. Bjorn and I are pushing for late November early December. Bjorn is a big fan of holiday surprises if you know his work in the past you will understand.

Thank you for all your support.

  • Bitswift – Status Update

The Bitswift Bittrex swap is officially concluded. The Bitswift Shop is still under construction and looks to launch soon. Last week they announced that they successfully integrated Bitcoin processing to the shop as they look to replace their decentralized marketplace option with the Bitswift Shop.

They are still in need of quality talent to help build and grow. If you are interested and have experience with the Nxt API PM them on Slack.

We can add new categories as community sees fit.. I think Digital Cameras should be one of them.

For info: We are planning on replacing the decentralized marketplace option with our online shop in our own token manager client after the Ardor migration. Decentralized marketplace is cool, but does not quite fit our business model at the moment.

We are looking for developers to help us roll out our digital product line. If you are interested please shoot us a PM.

Experience with Nxt api would be beneficial.

  • Lior Yaffe in Medium – Transparent Forging Dissected Review of One of the Most Promising Features of NXT

Jelurida co-founder Lior Yaffe wrote about the benefits of Transparent Forging, one of the unique functions designed into the NXT POS algorithm. TF is great for improving the scalability of private blockchains, among other things.

He wrote:

The NXT POS algorithm has unique ability to predict the node which will generate the next block a.k.a Transparent Forging, TF has the potential to significantly improve transaction propagation speed and reduce forking. TF is not implemented on the public blockchain due to security reasons. TF is ideal for improving the scalability of private blockchains.

  • Lior Yaffe in Medium – The Barcelona Blockchain Solutions Event

Lior Yaffe attended to the Barcelona Blockchain Solutions Event. He wrote a post explaining his impressions from this event:

Most of the teams in the ICO were raising money for their future project or to integrate a technology from another domain like gaming or telecom with a blockchain token. Almost all of the teams were using or plan to use ETH ERC20 tokens, almost none of them actually knew which infrastructure they will use for their project, most of them had unrealistic expectations from what can be achieved using existing blockchain technology “we need to support 100K TPS”. It was a Blue Ocean for pitching and educating people about Ardor and about the NXT Blockchain Creator Kit. There were no other devs from any other competitor in sight.

  • Techburst.io – POS vs POW Revisited – How the Tides have Turned

Related to what we published in a previous Newsletter, Lior Yaffe, aka Riker, Nxt/Ardor core developer and co-founder of Jelurida…

Few weeks ago I published https://medium.com/@lyaffe/nxt-proof-of-stake-theory-vs-practice-e895ac8cb5bf where I explained why the simple proof of stake algorithm used by NXT is practically secure. Still I didn’t claim it is more secure than Bitcoin’s and Ethereum’s proof of work. Now I do.

Reflecting on my visit to China couple of weeks ago just in time for the ICO ban and the Chinese exchange closure, one has to ask what’s next? What if the Chinese government also performs the next natural step and close all of China’s Bitcoin and Ether mining factories?

  • Steemit – Portfolio Updates ETH, LTC, XTZ, ARDR

Cryptocurrency enthusiast S4m0ht wrote a Steemit post about the updates to his portfolio last week. He is bullish on Ardor and is impressed with the core team behind the platform. This is good news for Ardor and we look forward to announcing news about Ardor as the time until the launch into the mainnet gets ever closer.

He wrote:

This is the most exotic pick I did during the summer, Jelurida is the software house working on NXT a completely different technology base w.r.t. BTC or ETH. Such completely different technology is an hedge against eventual problems that can bug the other blockchains (miner wars in BTC, hacker paradise in ETC, etc..).

The thing that really sold me this one is the team, where there is an high experienced developer who worked in the early ebay. Of course this was my minor pick, also, Ardor, when released, will be a PoS so you should take it out of exchanges and let it rest in your private wallet.

French language article about GreenFlex, a subsidiary of Total specializing in sustainable development. GreenFlex is working with the consulting firm, Blockchain Partner, to build a blockchain demonstrator dedicated to local energy loops. Many challenges await them, most importantly the decision of what will be the technical foundation of the protocol. Ethereum and Nxt are being considered, with Nxt being the slight favorite due to easier scalability at the large volumes that dominate the financial and business worlds.

Translated from the article:

On the technical side, the choice of protocol has not yet been decided. Blockchain Partner plans to study the Ethereum blockchain with confidentiality modules but also the NXT technology, already used by some banking systems.

“The platform needs to support a large volume, which gives an advantage to the NXT technology that natively manages the functionality of a decentralized market,” said Antoine Yeretzian, co-founder of the consulting firm.

Nxt News – July 2017 (I): Well Done Is Better Than Well Said

July 2017 (I)

Welcome again, fellow Nxters! A new month brings us a new edition of the newsletter.

As always, whatever your interest and whoever you are, you are in the right place for your comprehensive analysis of all things Nxt and Ardor. Last week was eventful, with many interesting and exciting opportunities presenting themselves.

This week’s newsletter is put together by apenzl, jagd, rubenbc and Jose, with final edits by Travin Keith.

  • IGNIS ICO will be held on the Nxt Platform

From Nxtchat.Slack we are excited to pass you this information:

jean-luc [1:46 PM] in #trading:

The ICO will be conducted on the Nxt blockchain, therefore one needs NXT coins to participate in it. Those who want to participate in the ICO should better not be dumping NXT now.

It is intentional that users need to buy NXT in order to participate, this should help maintain the price. It is simpler to define the price relative to NXT and there is enough volume now to allow also selling the collected NXT.

Other coins will be accepted only via Shapeshift and Changelly, as integrated in the wallet. No BTC except via in-client exchange.

I believe Jelurida will provide an open public node so that users don’t need to install the client locally.

Also, from riker [11:05 AM] in #general, this FYI:

When a programmer tells you Q3 it is usually a code word for mid to end of September.

  • Nxt Foundation in Money 20/20 Europe

The fearless Marketing Director of the Nxt Foundation, Travin Keith, recently returned from his trip to the Money 20/20 Europe Expo.

Nxt Foundation joined the Linux Foundation and Hyperledger, a project of the Linux Foundation, in order to grow our brand and expand the influence our platform and blockchain technology. Travin had some productive days in Copenhagen mingling with important people and drinking beer. You know his priorities are in the right order!

Looking sharp Travin

Remember the supporter program that the Nxt Foundation has, the brainchild of Travin?

Travin together with with Hanna Zubko of IntellectEU and Marta Piekarska of Hyperledger

The Supporter Program launched in early 2017 with the explicit purpose of creating a source of regular funding for the activities of the Nxt Foundation to better promote the use of Nxt and Ardor blockchain technology.

Growing our community requires full-time work and we are indebted to the many hours of work Travin and many many others put in for us. Supporters help greatly in this initial stage. Becoming a supporter of the Nxt Foundation also comes with numerous benefits, such as being listed on this page and having your own @nxtcommunity.io or @ardorcommunity.io email address. Please note, however, that while the Nxt Foundation is grateful to its supporters, being one is not a sign of endorsement from the Foundation.

Travin Keith states:

If you would like to be a supporter, please fill out this form on our website with all your details.

  • Janus – Summary

Bjorn, the Marketing Director of Janus, who last week announced that he is devoting 100% of his time to Janus and launching TradeMimic.com has this quote, which should be no surprise to those who follow the Weekly News:

The house on both etcbets.com and BetterBets.io got killed this month.

These sites will always be xfactor businesses. Some months awesome some red. Recently some larger players moved into etcbets.com which is great but they are also mostly in the positive. However, this is why it’s important we continue working on our mainstream sites to push the subscription and sales revenue which in time is much more regular and less chance based.

The divs monthly are provided when there is profit and canceled when there is an overall net loss. This monthly period from the current two sites that are profit sharing, we had a net revenue loss from players winning more than the sites profited.

In the near future when business revenue stems from several industries things should progress more naturally financially as long as our sites see the success we hope as a team and company to achieve.

Best regards,

The Janusproject Team

  • SCAM ALERT: Beware of Fake ARDR Assets on #NxtAE

Nxt users, someone wants to take advantage of newcomers to steal your money. There are false assets out there, including a false ARDR asset. These underhanded tactics are designed to prey upon the naivete of newcomers.

Be cautious and be careful. There is little or no safety net when you trade in a decentralized environment.

In order to keep your NXT secure and trade safely, please follow our handy tutorial on the asset exchange. • Transactions sent to the Ardor issuer account by mistake

Attention Nxters! We have important information regarding users who sent Ardor assets to asset issuer account NXT-FQ28-G9SQ-BG8M-6V6QH.

Riker states:

Regarding users who sent by mistake Ardor assets and NXT to the Ardor asset issuer account NXT-FQ28-G9SQ-BG8M-6V6QH see https://nxt.org/buy-ardor-asset/

As already discussed this account is under account control by the Genesis account which has minus balance and is therefore locked for outgoing transactions. Therefore we cannot currently release these funds.

On the next hard fork, scheduled for the time of the Ardor distribution, we will implement the following changes to release these funds:

1. For Ardor assets – we will revert all incoming Ardor asset transfer transactions so that these assets will be returned to the sender. In most cases the sender is an exchange account, users will have to make sure the exchange from which they sent the transaction will reimburse their account.

2. For locked NXT – we will remove the account control from this account and manually reimburse NXT locked in it, users who sent these transactions from exchanges should provide convincing evidence that they are indeed the original owners of the locked NXT.

  • Ardor Testnet Reset

As we continue to grow our platform, the developers have stated the need to reset the Ardor testnet to a new Genesis block that will incorporate new features documented in last week’s issue: smart phasing and asset increase.

Just a warning for now, at the next release of Ardor 2.0.4e, we will reset the Ardor testnet to a new Genesis block which will include a snapshot of the NXT testnet aliases, currency names and account properties and also enable the new features like smart phasing and asset increase.
Not sure yet about schedule, just wanted developers to be aware of that.

  • Weekly Reminder

We are one week removed from our inaugural launch of the “Weekly Reminder”.

As our user base grows, we will continue to be asked questions that we have already answered in depth. This new section is dedicated to the technical side of our platform.

No patience downloading the Nxt blockchain?

martis [7:10 AM]:

You can find a Nxt blockchain snapshot, dated November, 2016, at the bottom of this page: https://nxtportal.org/resources/

But you can also run Nxt client in lite mode, so you don’t need blockchain at all.

In the Nxt client.

Activate Lite mode, and blockchain will not be downloaded, very little bandwidth consumed.

a) Unpack Nxt client if you use the zip link or install if you use the installer.

b) Locate directory nxt/conf.

On Windows it is here: C:\Users<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\NXT\conf

Mac: ~/.nxt/conf

Linux: /conf folder under the root installation

c) Create a text file nxt.properties in this directory with a single line:

start the Nxt client and it will not be downloading the blockchain.

If you are not running (and forging with) the full Nxt Client, you should consider leasing your NXT balance to a forging hub.

As everyone needs a refresher every now and then, this week we decided to refresh your memory on activating lite mode before running the Nxt Client.

Last week’s newsletter had vital information about BTC and fiat pegged child chains on the Ardor Platform.

  • The Nxt Giveaways continue

Another Easter egg was picked up on the blockchain this week.

A clever Nxter took a look at Twitter handle @OPeasterEggs and found links to a 2-phased transaction of 1 Jinn asset to the NXT-TKCU-J7TH-YBS6-CG3QL Easter eggs account. The asset transfer only needed to be approved by someone. This was done simply by typing a secret and broadcasting it to the blockchain – if only one knew the secret, of course. 1 Jinn asset has the current value of $223 (and was $160 at the time).

Was this first tweet enough?

Or was this one needed to give the final clue?

For those unaware, the number in the above tweet is the numeric ID of Nxt’s Genesis Account. The passphrase to this very first Nxt account, once chosen by BCNext, has been publicly known since a “doctorevil” picked it up. Now it’s found in nxtwiki.org, in Nxt Newsletters and even in books.

So, this clever Nxter logged in to the Easter eggs account, typed in the Nxt Genesis account passphrase, and thereby revealed the right secret and approved the Jinn transaction. Boom, there went the Jinn to this clever Nxter’s account, and bye bye off went the last few NXT in the account as well. Well done Mr. or Mrs!

The backstory can be found in earlier newsletters here, here, and in this blog post published in Nxter Magazine last Thursday: https://www.nxter.org/easter-egg-hunt-on-nxt-blockchain/.

There will be new Easter eggs to pick up this week, and of course, the hunt will take place on the Nxt blockchain. Is there a better way to learn about Nxt and Ardor child chains’ built-in features? And does any other blockchain offer its users the ability to set up treasure hunts and games via its Client GUI?

Please help spread the word about Nxt’s abilities and don’t forget to follow https://twitter.com/OPeasterEggs for freebies.

  • Nxtwiki: Account Protection and ERC20 Out of the Box

Nxtwiki.org is a great resource for information and ongoing work, just like the Nxt and Ardor blockchain platforms.

Recently, Riker (Lior Yaffe, Nxt and Ardor core developer and a member of Jelurida) added a “How-To” which explains how easy it is to announce a new Nxt account’s Public Key to the blockchain:

Optimal Nxt Account Protection

Option 1 – submit an outgoing transaction from the new account

Any type of outgoing transaction will do, since the user is signing this transaction with his passphrase and by doing so records the public key in the blockchain.

Option 2 – another account can announce the public key of the new account to the blockchain

Any type of transaction in which the recipient is the new account will do. The sender needs to specify the new account public key as the publicKey parameter or using the wallet “Recipient Public Key” field.

Source and more information

In a former newsletter, we explained why announcing the Public Key (initiating the account) is important:

There is (an astronomical) 2^64 =~10^19 individual account addresses available in Nxt but 2^256 =~10^77 possible passwords. An obvious question is whether or not it is possible for more than one password to open the same account. The answer is no – not if you have announced its 256-bit Public Key (with the first 64 being your visible account number) to the network and incorporated it into the blockchain. Once this is done, in the very rare case that someone enters a passphrase that would generate the same 64-bit account number, the software will deny the use of the passphrase.

How to – Initialize a Nxt/Ardor Account without Issuing an Outgoing Transaction

Cold Storage can be easily achieved with NxtBridge OFFLINE, which also signs transactions OFFLINE.

NXT support for ERC20 tokens

Another new entry in the wiki aims to educate people who are not totally aware of the possibilities of Nxt’s inbuilt smart transactions, how the Nxt Asset Exchange API supports most of Ethereum ERC20 operations out of the box without the need to issue any smart contract, and that the Asset Exchange – additionally – provides full dex (Decentralized Exchange) functionality and options such as the ability to issue a singleton asset for reduced fee or delete asset shares, or send a dividend payment to all asset holders with the click of a button, straight from the Nxt Client GUI.

Nxt also supports a different type of token called “currency” – among other features, a currency provides the ability to restrict token transfers so that they are allowed only between the issuer account and the accounts that hold the token. This function prevents free trade of the token without the issuer’s permission which is desirable in, for example, the case of voting rights distribution. Voting being another Nxt blockchain feature.

  • Janus – Summary & TradeMimic

In the last Nxt Newsletter, we wrote about the Community Janus XT Token Share Program where 6 spots in the program were still open. Not anymore, as everything sold out fast. Effectively this means that another 2 million Janus tokens have been removed from circulation for at least a year.

Price correlation to the rising price of NXT:

born_bb: This month BetterBets.io NXT volume has dropped significantly, for our team’s part I have in testing the capability to offset this to a degree with other things. One of those is trading, which in the past I have done manually. Recently (past 4 days) I’ve been testing in my brief spare time a very complex but so far highly successful trading bot engine. Using semi conservative settings it is proving to be effective in 1-2% gains daily. The casinos, as everyone knows are unpredictable, in this industry the whales make up 90% of house profit or losses. I believe the rise of the NXT price is attributed to the decline over the past 2 months in NXT use on site – (Price rise significantly has in the past caused a drop off in high value betting). Therefore after more testing on the trading engine I’m using if it proves to be viable for an additional revenue stream I’ll put this into the Janus pool for divs.

Etcbets.com is growing fairly well, this message applies entirely to NXT betting on BetterBets.io and it’s significant decline this month.

I’ll keep everyone posted, as I cannot day trade full time getting this bot perfect would have direct results on income potential in time. As well as the rest of our sites in development.

The above trading is entirely my own thing and idea outside Janus team, so I’ll be using personal funds for now to fuel its start.

Speaking of unpredictable betting results, one ETCBets.com player (and Janus community member) hit the jackpot this week, which might result in a significantly lower dividend from that business this month.

Business in the pipeline

This is it!

The long-awaited social fintech site from Janus, http://TradeMimic.com, is coming. Use the ‘Subscribe’ button on the site in order to receive periodic updates or just visit it to sit back and watch the countdown.

Expectations are high: this will be the first of the well-prepared large scale business ventures from the Janus Team, plus the one that will kick off Alphonso Morris Jr. as a spearhead and brand manager, with a team of professional crypto- and FOREX-traders up the sleeve to help the social marketing.

  • ARDR, Ardor, IGNIS and the Snapshot Block

Lots of (repetitive) questions are being asked in nxtchat.slack.com about the Ardor and IGNIS snapshots, issuance and timeframe. Fastest way to a FAQ is:

mrv777 sums the roadmap up like this:

Current plan from Jean-Luc:

1. ICO of Ignis, to last a month or so.

(There will likely be some time gap between the end of the ICO and the snapshot, could be days or weeks.)

2. One-time snapshot of ARDR and NXT balances (and aliases, MS currency names, etc).

3. Launch Ardor. The distribution of ARDR and IGNIS will be in the Ardor Genesis block.

ARDR tokens have been distributed already!

The ARDR you hold in your Nxt account will be re-issued as tokens on the Ardor Blockchain.

The passphrase to your Nxt account will give you access to your Ardor Blockchain account as well.

Lead developer Jean-Luc recently added:

the ARDR token will be frozen at the snapshot block and no further transactions [on the Nxt blockchain] with it will be possible.

This is to avoid profiting from the ARDR asset token on the Nxt Blockchain once the Ardor network has been created.

Information about the ICO:

Jelurida will hold an IGNIS ICO for 50% of the tokens.

NXT holders will receive the remaining 50% IGNIS tokens automatically, 0,5 IGNIS for each 1 NXT they hold.

The distribution will happen in accordance to a 1-time snapshot of the Nxt Blockchain prior to the Ardor Genesis.

Full details of the ICO terms and conditions, with exact amounts and timeline, will be published as soon as all details have been finalized, but this will be at least one week before the start of the ICO.

  • Janus – Projects Elaboration

Janus has published an update for their project which is very similar to that of a roadmap. The update has the aim of providing all stakeholders with sufficient detail to be able to assess and judge the company’s plan and fundamentals. In the past, no detailed information was available on the direction of project development and, as a result, many investors had dismissed the possibility of an investment, but the presentation of this ambitious objective plan focused on Content Management and Fintech Social projects provides a solid foundation on which to work.

We have been asked to be brief and not bury our readers under walls of text, so for the sake of brevity and clarity, this update will (for now) focus on the primary two projects we intended to give priority: Content Management and Social Fintech.

Content Management

Content Management systems allow non-technical users to publish content on the web. There are lots of generic content management systems freely available, but when you look for content management systems which are application-specific, there are quite a few market niches where there are few competitors and where the market situation is favorable. For the purpose of this document, we will focus on two areas:

Realty (ie: the buying, selling and renting of real estate) in all its forms is a huge market which by definition is decentralized (ie: if you are looking for an apartment in New York, you don’t really care what the market offers in Los Angeles). It is this geographical separation, together with the involvement of local real estate agents, which makes this market an attractive one.

Our strategy for realty is twofold

Sell software to realtors:

Market analysis shows that there are approximately 400.000 realty agents in the US and the EU. In a market of this size, you don’t need huge penetration numbers in order to be able to sell your product profitably. We have a basic version of a realty software package in place and will be porting it to our new technology platform. Once that process is completed, we will be using our industry contacts to analyze and expand the functional coverage of the product in order to arrive at a package which is explicitly aimed at realtors and their typical workflow requirements.

Build focussed websites:

Realty, like anything else is changing with new niches appearing every few years. We believe that by focussing on such niches, we can build an appealing service which lends itself to monetization. If we manage to gain traction in such niches, this would pave the way to expand into more mainstream areas which in turn offer even more revenue and profit potential.

We believe that by combining these two approaches, we can target a market which is generally resistant to centralization (and thus domination by a single party) and offers ample opportunity to build a profitable business.

Automotive is another market which is heavily decentralized and has many small/local players in each community. Generally speaking, many automotive companies, especially the smaller/local players) are using very little in terms of automatization which again makes this market an attractive market to target. Our strategy here is to build a software suite targeted at the workflow needs of typical smaller automotive firms and push this into the market.

Social Fintech/Trading

We plan to build a site and platform that allows experienced forex traders to set up account profiles. These traders will have their own private ‘rooms’ that will allow them to connect people to their trades, charts, and calls all in one place. Private chat will be enabled, and each follower who signs up to them will gain access only by paying a monthly subscription fee. The day traders will no longer need to worry about collecting payments from each member as our site will handle this and take a small percentage fee.

We will offer people numerous methods to expand their following, full social media integration and privacy that can only be unlocked through subscription. Advanced traders will have a link that directs their social media followers to our site and their private rooms. This will enable our team and users to promote user acquisition on a very large scale. Traders will be inputting their TA/charts and market indicators to predict where they think the markets are moving, paid subscribers will have access. Traders will be scored using an automated process based on the success of their calls, and potential followers will be able to see these scores and current followers recommendations prior to signing up for each signal callers private rooms.

Our team has some experience in the development of forex trading bots. We plan to create an in browser gui to configure various trading strategies and put traders in the position to backtest these using a multithreaded approach which will dramatically shorten the time required to backtest trading strategies when compared to packages such as MT4, etc. This will be marked as part of a professional package within the social fintech site and carry a higher price but should prove extremely valuable for end users.

There are more options that will be added over time until our business becomes the primary source for all interested parties to convene. We will of course run heavy marketing and gain user feedback, then apply suggestions when appropriate to further make the entire user experience amazing for all our users.

We have achieved great milestones so far, yet the future for us as a team and company holds this and much more. We invite you to our multiplatform, and diverse industry tokens, community, and team.

Team Janus

In addition to this, Janus has also announced on Twitter that Bitsquare, the first decentralized exchange to buy and sell bitcoins, in addition to other cryptocurrencies, has added JNS / BTC trading pair. It’s important to note that in addition to Bitsquare, users have the ability to trade JNS assets on the Nxt Asset Exchange with the NXT / JNS pair. • Adel – Last Days to End the First ICO Round and Start Voting for the Post ICO Plan

As we mentioned in the previous newsletter, the Adel ICO enters its final stretch, though at the moment, still short of the initial target of 900 BTC. However, because of this, the latest whitepaper titled “Foundation of a Community Accelerator” outlines a plan of moving forward where ICO participants will also have the ability to vote for whether or not they will receive a new bonus 20% Post-ICO on their contributions, to be added to the bonuses previously obtained through the ICO. Also, participants who do not want to move forward may request reimbursement of their contributions before the voting process for this plan begins. Last Friday, they also announced that until May 31st, all participants who have contributed more than 4 BTC will receive an automatic bonus of 20%!

A lot of those who have followed Adel considers or have considered that Marketing has been the great weakness of Adel and its ICO, to which Gabriel Dusil, Co-founder and member of the Adel Board, answers:

We have also written 11 white papers to date, released 3 project proposals, produced 4 infographic videos, 5 walkthrough documents for mainstream contributors interested in fiat to crypto conversion, so they can contribute to our ICO. We produced 3 video presentations from seminars about Adel, and we have a 25 page FAQ on our website. All our staff are identified in the Team section of our website, and we have built Adel to the the level of maturity and exposure you see today. We have spent 16 months building Adel with a stellar team of over 26 experts in the Adel Services team. We are also the first ICO to be AML/CTF/KYC compliant, in the world. So from a “marketing” perspective we believe we have significantly raised the bar for future ICO’s entering this space.

We realize that some people understand ICO marketing to mean “advertising”, and they have judged our marketing efforts strictly in regards to advertising exposure. I am the first to admit that we have not done any advertising, due to lack of budget in this regard. But with the resources we had available to us leading up to – and including our ICO, we believe that the exposure we have received international is unprecedented. We have managed to established a global brand presence on a shoestring marketing budget.

  • Capodieci – Emulating MultiSig in the Nxt Blockchain

Roberto Capodieci, partner of the Nxt Foundation, CEO of DeBuNe, DigitalBillions, and OTDocs (Open Trade Docs) and founder of TheSoundKey and Go.Notifile.me, has made a step-by-step video tutorial that shows how to create a multisig account with Nxt using the core feature known as “phased transactions“.

The Nxt client extends the multi-signature concept by including many more functions and use cases. Users can define a transaction in 2 phases: the first phase takes place when the details of the transaction are defined (for example, the amount of NXT to send to a recipient), and the second when the transaction is sent to the system .

Many ask me how to do MultiSig in Nxt. I made a small video tutorial that shows how to emulate the MultiSig with Nxt. I hope this is useful for you! Try Nxt at http://nxt.org. It is free, and it is amazing 🙂

Phased transactions can be created as a deferred conditional execution order based on: the approval of other external accounts (up to 10), the result of a vote, a set of linked transactions, (either already in the chain blocks, or ones that are to be sent in the future after the disclosure of a secret, also known as “hash approval”) or simply with unconditional deferred execution where a transaction will be executed automatically when a particular block is reached.

Scor2k, a developer and creator of the NXTBridge Wordpress plugin, a plugin that connects WordPress-powered web pages with the Nxt network and displays Asset Exchange information in real time, has published an addition to the NxtBridge Suite on the Nxt forum:

We still alive!

NXTBridge-Ledger – this is a very useful and simple plugin. It lets you check your last transactions (account Ledger) and it allows you to send NXT securely. The main WordPress feature of this plugin is a Tip Button. The plugin creates unsigned transaction bytes, and last, but not least, it allows you to broadcast signed transactions to the Nxt network from every site which runs this plugin.

To sign any Nxt blockchain transaction you can use our NXTBridge-Offline client.

  • Steemit – Why you should invest in ARDOR and NXT (before it is too late!)

Askaran, author of this review on the Steemit platform, after a brief introduction to Ardor, listed and defined all the features Ardor has in common with the Nxt kernel. The Alias featureVoting System, Account Control, Multisig, Encrypted Messages, Data Cloud, Descentralized Asset Exchange, and the Decentralized Marketplace are some examples that Askaran looks into. When asked about whether to buy NXT or Ardor, Askaran argues that the two are very good options.

Ardor is a blockchain-as-a-service platform that will allow people to utilize  the blockchain technology of Nxt through the use of child chains. Since  all processing will be done on the Ardor main chain, child chain  creators won’t need to worry about common issues when creating a  blockchain as well as securing it with enough nodes. Child chains will  be able to utilize features currently seen in Nxt such as decentralized  phasing, voting, and trading, as well as be able to interact with other  child chains on the platform, including IGNIS, the first child chain to  be launched.

PS: This article only represent my opinion. Only risk money that  you are willing to lose. There are no guarantees of return or profit.  Please be warned, crypto is wild and sometimes unpredictable.

Nxt news – May 2017 (I): Shortcuts Cause Long Delays

May 2017 (I)

Here’s some of the latest news about Nxt over this past week:

Here below are more details about each of these topics:

  • Nxt Foundation – Jelurida Joins the Supporter Program

Travin Keith, Marketing Director of the Nxt Foundation, has announced that Jelurida, the corporation that brings together all the Nxt and Ardor core developers, has become an Organizational Supporter to the Nxt’s Foundation Supporter Program. Jelurida now joins Janus and Sigwo Technologies in their economical support to the Foundation.

Some members of the community, such as abctc, Arthur Penzl, CryptKeeper, Eddie Willers, Farl, Lior Yaffe, lolik, Martin Rönnebeck, RobinSavandra, Sazan, Sebastiaan, Wilhelm, among multiple others, have also joined this initiative as Annual Supporters in order to increase the sustainability of the Nxt Foundation.

The Supporter Program was launched in early 2017 with the purpose of creating a source of regular funding for the activities of the Foundation to promote the use of Nxt and Ardor blockchain technology. Becoming a supporter also comes with many benefits, such as being listed on this page and having your own @nxtcommunity.io or @ardorcommunity.io email address. Please note, however, that while the Foundation is grateful to its supporters, being one is not a sign of endorsement from the Foundation.

All members and supporters of the community, both individuals, and corporations, are invited to support the Nxt Foundation as much as they can. The Foundation has been doing a terrific job for the Nxt community for years, achieving remarkable results thanks to the efforts of its members, despite not having a lot of funding when it was launched.

  • Webit Festival Europe – Jelurida Was Well Received

In our previous newsletter, we announced that Kristina Kalcheva and Tomislav Gountchev, both members of Jelurida, were going to attend to the 8th edition of Webit Festival Europa, which took place on the 25th and 26th at the Sofia Tech Park in Bulgaria. According to the organizers, Webit is the most influential event in the field of digital economy and technology in the region.

The event was a complete success and many people came to visit the festival, which attracted innovative start-up projects to the interesting conference schedule offered during the two days. Tomislav also had the opportunity to give a brief presentation to some of the attendees at the start-up pavilion about Nxt and Ardor features.

Miembros de Jelurida Kristina Kalcheva y Tomislav Gountchev en la octava edición del Festival Webit Europa

Kristina, once the two hectic workdays for Jelurida at Webit were over, stated:

We were the first to arrive at 7:30… It was a great day, we talked to tons of people and gave out more than 1500 brochures. Even the president of Bulgaria got one… Quite an educational campaign we did today… but many knew about Nxt and asked about Ardor, too…

I’m very happy with the attention that Nxt and Ardor got from people who are now discovering blockchain but also from these who want to use blockchain technology for their projects.

  • Adel – The ICO Begins

Today, May the 1st, 2017, begins Adel‘s Initial Coin Offering (ICO). After many months of preparation, users can now take part in the first ICO round of this blockchain incubator that will rely on Nxt for its operations.

Adel is a global cryptocurrency community that is self-sustained and offers its own economic ecosystem with the Adelphoi token. Our community focuses on creating, developing and implementing use cases involving blockchain technology that covers a wide range of digital and physical industries. Supported projects are developed, discussed and decided by community members.

Adel will have three rounds of ICO to ensure a controlled deployment of funds as various projects are introduced to the community. There will be a total of 100 million non-mineable Adelphoi units available in the Adel ecosystem, with 33,333,333 released in the first round…

In the first White Paper we can find all the details of this ICO process:

There will be five stages for stakeholders to earn different bonus percentages for their BTC and tokens converted by ShapeShift. This bonus refers to the amount of Adelphoi the stakeholder will receive, and is directly proportional to their voting power within the community.

  • 20% bonus in ADL ▲First 3 days ▲ 12:00 noon UTC on May 1st till 23:59 UTC on May 3rd
  • 15% bonus in ADL ▲ Next seven days ▲ 00:00 UTC on May 4th till 23:59 UTC on May 10th
  • 10% bonus in ADL ▲ Next seven days ▲ 00:00 UTC on May 11th till 23:59 UTC on May 17th
  • 5% bonus in ADL ▲ Next seven days ▲ 00:00 UTC on May 18th till 23:59 UTC on May 24th
  • 0% bonus ▲ Last seven days ▲ 00:00 UTC on May 25th till 23:59 UTC on May 31st
  • 15% bonus in ADL ▲Special bonus for contributions of over 20 BTC ▲ Stakeholders who exceed this minimum will receive an  automatic bonus of 15% no matter when they
    submitted their first contribution

The first ICO round will be open for four weeks. The ICO will be open to most of the available cryptocurrencies via ShapeShift and Changelly. After the first round of ICO, the total amount will be proportionally calculated and exchanged for 28,333,333 units of Adelphoi. Five million Adelphoi will then be allocated to the Adel team.

During the past few months, the Adel team has presented a lot of documents explaining the operation of this new ecosystem. On the official website you can find a number of White Papers, some detailed project’s proposals, Frequently Asked Questions, and much more information. With this, anyone interested can easily access as much information as they need to take an informed decision.

Adel’s ICO will be the first to comply with Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Terrorism Financing (CTF) and Know your Customer (KYC) regulations.

  • TheWireMaster  – Ardor Song

TheWireMaster, a member of the Nxt community and admin at NxtFolks, has given all nxters a nice surprise by releasing a new musical hit inspired by Ardor. It’s a catchy song that would have gone to the top of the charts, if  TheWiremaster hadn’t decided to release it for free, but now anybody can enjoy it. You can now listen to it for free at Soundcloud.

  • I had Linda on my mind
thinking that she was so nice
but I knew that she was in love
    with an Ethereum Classic guy
    That was no go
    that was so bad
    and I was feeling down
    She was going always home
passing at 2 by my house
she was stopping by my window
    but NXT was going high
    Damn it, just now!
    Common go out!
    But I cannot right now
Then I met her once around
at the store behind my home
    Spoke about NXT
    but she didn’t seem electrified
  • I could not know
    what was wrong
    but I just don’t mind
la la la la la la
la la la la la la
la la la la la la
    She looked at me
    she was lovely
    and I was freaking out
then I asked her why she was
getting in love with a guy like me
she then told me that she wanted
    a man with Ardor
    how did she know
    that was just me
    and we are happy now
la la la la la la
la la la la la la

It’s not the first time that TheWireMaster offered us one of his songs. In 2014 he already composed a song for Come-From-Beyond, one of Nxt’s first core developers, which you can buy at Nxt’s Marketplace.

  • Jelurida – Public License Proposal

Jean-Luc, Nxt and Ardor core developer and a member of Jelurida, started a new thread at nxtforum to discuss and propose some solutions to some of the problems that public open source blockchains are facing. Blockchains are usually covered by copyleft GPL licenses which, in certain cases, aren’t enough to protect the stakeholders against copycats, thus hurting the ecosystem and users.

Jelurida is working on a new “coinleft” license model for its upcoming Ardor platform, better suited for open source cryptocurrency projects, which would make sure that not only the value of the source code is protected when the code of a blockchain project is used in another blockchain

In order to achieve that, Jelurida is proposing the following solution:

The new Jelurida Public License (JPL) under which our Ardor platform is planned to be released, will have the following requirement, as an addition to the current GPLv2 clauses. Anyone can use the Ardor source code in another blockchain platform, provided that:

  • The Ignis holders from the original Ardor platform are allocated at least 10% of the forging tokens in that new blockchain, proportional to their Ignis holdings,
  • The Ardor holders from the original Ardor platform, or the forging token holders from a blockchain that has already satisfied the JPL requirements, are allocated 100% of the forging tokens in that new blockchain, proportional to their forging token holdings.

All of this intends to protect the community and boost the development of the platform, thus avoiding situations such as the one we talked about in a previous newsletter, where a large institution cloned the code of Nxt to develop another solution, without making the new code available to the public, thus violating the GPL and avoiding this potential improvements to be incorporated to the original platform.

Jean-Luc adds to the above:

Under the JPL, any Ignis holder could sue a license violator, because they are given rights under this license…

…if any clone does an ICO and makes it big while violating the license, either Jelurida, or any Ignis holder can initiate a claim, and complying with the license after such a clone is launched would be harder then just allocating the sharedrop from the beginning…

…this also gives some unique value to Ignis tokens, that no other child chain can have

  • Steem Nation – Nxt and Ardor are Presented

Beeridiculous is the author of this Steem Nation newsletter, which is published at the Steemit.com platform. This time, he has decided to talk about the second generation blockchains Nxt and Ardor. In the article, he gives a brief description of the two of them:

Nxt revolutionises the financial technology, crowdfunding and governance industries by providing not only the groundbreaking NXT crypto-currency, but also a powerful, modular toolset to build with in any way Nxt users can imagine. Nxt gives users complete freedom to create their own applications.

  • Intel & The Floor – International Blockchain Hackaton

In some previous newsletters, we announced that Lior Yaffe, a Nxt and Ardor core developer, will be attending to the International Blockchain Hackaton in Tel Aviv on the 29th and 30th of March, 2017. Nxter.org covered this story by releasing two articles that include all the details about Lior’s participation at this event and the event itself.

The challenge set by the organizers was to establish a digital, one-stop-shop solution to register shares, handle corporate actions, and allow for updates of company capital structure. This could sound like a tough job, but it isn’t really a problem for Nxt, because most of the features needed are already included in the Nxt core, as Lior explained:

The “problem” is, that the functionality we provide out of the box with data cloud, phasing, messages, account ledger, encrypted file attachment, shared key is enough to implement this.
I don’t have anything real to develop.
The mentor told me “you better work on a presentation.”

And this is the result:

Nxt news – March 2017 (IV): There is Nothing Like a Dream to Create the Future

March 2017 (IV)

Here’s some of the latest news about Nxt over this past week:

Here below are more details about each of these topics:

  • Gartner – Blockchain: How Real is the Market?

Gartner is one of the world’s leading information technology research and advisory company oriented towards businesses. It operates in more than 90 countries and has about 9,000 associates who assist thousands of companies around the world.

Recently, Gartner hosted a special webinar by Rajesh Kandaswamy, Research Director of Gartner, which analyzes some facts and trends of blockchain technology, starting with a brief explanation about how a blockchain works, then moving on to it’s evolution, how blockchain activity can benefit most industries, and the large capatalization that this technology is achieving.

Rajesh reminds us that this technology has a lot of potential, but hasn’t matured yet. There are also many notions about blockchain that aren’t true, either because they are just plain myths or because they haven’t been developed yet. Moreover, the ecosystem is still a little blurry, with many different platforms solving different problems, as is the case with Nxt, which is included in this report which can be considered to the detriment of other blockchain platforms that the crypto market considers more appealing.

  • Nxtchat – Now Connected to the Slack Shared Network

Last February, Coinbar launched a joint project to increase communication, awareness, and education among different crypto platforms, as well as the promotion and expansion of the user-base of each project.

That’s the reason why they decided to connect the chats of all of these projects on Slack in a single unified channel called #slack-shared-network.

Nxt and Ardor have recently joined this SSN, where other projects where already integrated, such as Aurovine/AudioCoin, Coinbar & Coinbar Plus, Synergy, SaluS, BlockPool, Project Radón, Bitswift, BlackCoin, SuperNET, LBRY, Silk Network, VertCoin, ZCoin, Intellisys, Rubies…

This way, users can now start a friendly discussion with other crypto communities and share ideas and solutions with them.

  • Betterbets – Huge Amount of NXT Wagered in This Platform

Betterbets.io, launched by members of the Janus team, is one of the most popular casinos with the highest volume among provably fair and secure bitcoin gambling sites. It’s also where you can use NXT to place your bets. Stats since the integration of NXT have been recently shared with the community.

Bjorn states:

Since January 21st stats on NXT use for betting on betterbets.io Total Bets: 23,436,483   Wagered: 128,010,206 NXT
Considering it was a gamble to add NXT as it’s not usually something a business showcases for gambling these statistics are very good and higher than I’d anticipated. Very cool, I haven’t checked this for over 3 weeks it’s solid

Travin Keith, board member of the Nxt Foundation, also points down:

1/8th of the entire NXT supply wagered on Betterbets!

The Janus ICO is still going on and 90% of the profits coming from NXT betting at Betterbets will be given away to the holders of the Janus token. The team, according to the predefined strategy, will raise the price every three months, thus benefiting early investors while giving the opportunity to current doubters to join later, though at a higher price, when more news comes. You can buy your JNS assets on Nxt’s Asset Exchange. Moreover, at the beginning of every month, (though on the 28th of March this time for April) dividends are given away among owners of the JNS asset.

  • Ardor Testnet – Live Demo

Zuqka, a member of the Nxt community and booster of the solar forging device for Nxt, has been assisted by Vanbreuk to launch the public a live demo of the Ardor Testnet. This way, anyone who wants to try out the functionalities of Ardor without having to download or needing to configure the client, as well as without having to wait to the launching of the Ardor main net, expected to happen in the third quarter of 2017.

You no longer have an excuse! You just have to type the following address on your web browser https://demo.ardorplatform.org/index.html and create a new account to start experiencing the future Ardor platform.

Click on the image to open Ardor’s Live Demo

Keep in mind that this is an experimental version that runs on testnet, so, for security reasons, you shouldn’t use your Nxt account and passphrase to try it out.

If you want to make one more step,  you can download and launch locally your own Ardor wallet for the testnet. You only need to download the latest version of Ardor for the testnet and ask for some Ardor and Ignis tokens for the testnet in this thread.

  • Ardor – Latest Features

In addition to the already-known features that were introduced, Ardor will also bring some improvements to make it easier to set up nodes, thus strengthening the network.

Lior Yaffe, Nxt and Ardor core developer and member of Jelurida, states:

There will be no hallmarks in Ardor. Hallmark while being an innovative feature 3 years ago did not prove itself as adding protection to the network and its awkward design made it difficult to refactor the peer communication. In Ardor we are launching completely new and much more efficient peer communication network developed by ScripterRon which will render hallmarks obsolete.

In Ardor all nodes will have same trust level. Same as any other blockchain.

In nxt 1.x we do not observe significant security increase when using hallmark nodes, my understanding is that large stake holders don’t want to hallmark their nodes in order not to reveal their online identity. This defeats the purpose of hallmarking.
Node owners that do hallmark their nodes attract larger traffic which just adds to centralization not to security.

When asked whether these changes could somehow mean an increase of uncertainty for those who set up a node for the first time, Lior answered:

Hallmarks does not offer protection against this, anyone can set a hallmark. The blockchain download is always performed from several nodes in parallel so one malicious node will be identified and black listed.

Light and roaming client are in danger of connecting to a remote malicious nodes. This is not a concern with submitting transactions since they are signed and validated locally but it is a concern in a case a malicious node feeds the client with false data. To mitigate this we implemented the client status icon and hallmarks doesn’t help against this anyway.

In addition to the foregoing of hallmark nodes, Lior has also clarified what will happen to the current ARDR assets on Nxt, once the Ardor blockchain is launched:

When launching the Ardor mainnet with balances based on the NXT Ardor asset, we’ll have to make the Ardor asset disappear from NXT so that users are not confused or scammed to continue trading it as NXT asset. This would be another hard fork for NXT.

  • NxtFolks – NXT, Ardor, Wallets, Asset… Lets Clarify

TheWireMaster, an active member of the Nxt community, recently published an article on the NxtFolks platform with some comments and clarifications about Nxt and Ardor, in order to make things easier for newcomers.

As explained in the text, there currently isn’t an Ardor client for the main net – it’s just available on testnet. The only wallet that runs on the main net at the moment is the Nxt wallet.

The final launch of Ardor’s network will take place in the third quarter of this year. Until then, it will only run on test net. In the meantime, you can buy/sell the ARDR asset on the Nxt Asset Exchange, just like any other asset. When Ardor is released, you’ll be able to use the passphrase you currently use to log into your Nxt account to log to your Ardor account, where your Ardor tokens will have been credited according to the amount of ARDR assets you hold in your Nxt account.

Furthermore, the article also mentions that the ARDR token will be erased from Nxt once Ardor is launched, by means of a hardfork, as we’ve already mentioned earlier in this newsletter

TheWireMaster also launched a special promotion for those of you who may be interested in signing up at NxtFolks:

Just to remind you that if you subscribe to nxtfolks.com and add you NXT address you get 10000 Folks (MS)…

Beyond the central topic of the article, older Nxters may fell some nostalgia when remembering some landmarks in the history of Nxt, which are included in Bas’ explanation, which can help us visualize the exemplary behavior of the members and developers of the Nxt community when they faced adversities, and how they’ve managed to emerge stronger from them:

Bas Wisselink: …we were the first non-bitcoin platform that allowed people to issue Assets. So we had our shares of weird propositions that still managed to scam a lot of money out of people and we as a community were continuously forced to think about how to handle them (and whether we should do something in the first place).

We also had our mini-version of the DAO debacle, when an exchange was robbed of 5% of the complete supply of Nxt tokens. To roll back, or not to roll back? Our community decided overwhelmingly not to, and instead we helped the exchange to do negotiate a rebuy from the actual robber. The exchange, who had very vocally (and understandably!) was for a rollback, took this option and bought back what they had lost.

(Bas) represented NXT … and assisted in negotiating the return of 45 million stolen NXT’s from the BTER exchange alongside Lawyer-of-NXT, DomP, and Amadeus.

  • LaVoieDuBitcoin.info – Snapshots and Metaphors of a Decentralized Dream

Jacques Favier, the person in charge of La Voie Du Bitcoin, is also the owner of one of the copies of the collectors edition of “SNAPSHOT – Nxt, Unsurpassable Blockchain Solutions”. Now, after reading the book, he is making his personal opinion about it public on their blog.

Jacques, known for being an articulated writer with an elaborate rhetoric, has analyzed the book, which includes the most relevant events related to this platform that have taken place over the past 3 years: the ICO process carried out by BCNext, the anonymous creator of Nxt, the disruptive features of the platform, the decentralized community, the BTER hack, the Nxt Foundation… and many other aspects, all until reaching the Ardor chapter.

Some interesting quotes that we can find in the blog (in French) are:

The book shows a kaleidoscopic version of the Nxt ecosystem…

A good portion of the book can be read as a type of political manifesto about decentralizacion….

Nxt is presented as a revolutionary tool for businesses, in a business world where the word blokchain became fashionable but was still devoid of content…

When you read the anecdotes included in this book, is surprising to see that just a few wise bankers use Nxt instead of Bitcoin…

Remember that you can buy a copy of “SNAPSHOT – Nxt, Unsurpassable Blockchain Solutions” at the Nxter.org shop. You can also choose to download the digital edition for your electronic devices, or a paper edition, thanks to the Print-On-Demand service by Lulu.

Nxt News – March 2017 (III): Alone We Can Do So Little; Together We Can Do So Much

March 2017 (III)

Here’s some of the latest news about Nxt over this past week:

Below are more details about each of these topics:

  • Nxt Foundation – Supporter Program

Travin Keith has announced the launch of the Nxt Foundation Supporter Program. The final objective is to raise enough funds to allow the Foundation perform its operations well, as well as to strengthen the bonds of the community.

There are several forms of support included in this program, each of them with different benefits and rates. In every case, you can make your contribution with EUR, NXT, ARDR or BTC:

  • Organizational Supporters – This category is targeted towards large businesses and organizations that wish to support the Nxt Foundation. The benefactor, who will donate €2500 every year, will be publicly acknowledged as a Nxt Foundation Organizational Supporter on the Nxt Foundation website with a dedicated page to the organization, as well as many other benefits.
  • Annual Supporter This category is for both community members and projects that wish to support the Nxt Foundation in its activities. It’s subdivided into two tiers, depending on the donation level, which will bring benefits such as the appearance of the name or username on the Supporter Page, a personalized @nxtcommunity.io email or @ardorcommunity.io email, link to a personal/project website, and a few other benefits.

Travin Keith states:

If you would like to be a supporter, please send me a private message on nxtforum, on Slack, or to travin@nxtfoundation.io, with your desired amount to contribute, your preferred method, and other relevant details to your desired tier

Janus and Sigwo Technologies have been the very first ones to give support to the Foundation through the Organizational Supporters plan mentioned above.

This piece of news adheres to the Nxt Foundation Marketing Strategy, which was mentioned in our previous newsletter.

  • Tipper – The Service Will Be Shut Down on the 1st of April

Daniel, aka NxtSwe, is an active member of the Nxt community, with which he was always willing to help and participate in its discussions. His aptitude as a developer are evident in many open source contributions to the Nxt ecosystem, such as the NxtLib library, the Tipper bot for Slack, some plugins for Nxt, (Asset Feeds or Plugin Dividend, for example) as well as a lot of valuable inputs and technical feedback, all while always keeping a constructive and kind tone.

Daniel has announced that, for personal reasons, he is forced to close down all these services that the has offered to the community which he was sustaining by himself:

I will be shutting down tipper service on april 1st.
I am very sorry for this, but I urge everyone to withdraw their funds from tipper until then using the withdraw command, for example:
If you have assets, withdraw them first so you have enough to cover the transaction fees.
Again, I am very sorry for this.

NxtSwe, displaying once more his exceptional personality, warned users in advance of the closing of this service so that not a single nxter is adversely affected by this decision. The source code of the app will remain freely available at Github for anyone who wants to keep benefiting from NxtSwe’s contributions.

From Nxter, on behalf of the whole Nxt community, we’d like to thank you very much, Daniel. Thank you for being a part of Nxt’s history!

  • Intel & The Floor – International Banking Blockchain Hackaton

In our previous newsletter, we mentioned that Lior Yaffe, Nxt and Ardor core developer and a member of Jelurida, announced his participation in the International Banking Blockchain Hackathon that will take place in Tel-Aviv on the 29th and 30th of March, 2017.

Lior is especially excited with this hackathon and recently stated:

I’m assembling an NXT dream team for this event. I spoke with the organizer today and they welcome Jelurida/NXT/Ardor solutions. They are looking for a team of 5-6 people not necessarily all technical. Great opportunity to promote NXT.  First prize is 5K$ paid in BTC. If someone wants to join me in Tel Aviv for this event I can help with travel arrangement and show you around before or after the event.

There are less than 10 days left before the event, so, if you are willing to be a part of this dream team and help promote Nxt for 36 hours during this hackathon, all while you learn new insights and forge new bonds in this field, don’t hesitate to contact Lior.

  • Chocolatey.org – Nxt Repository for Windows (Unofficial)

Chocolatey is a package manager for Windows. It was designed to be a decentralized framework for quickly installing applications and tools that you may need.

Chocolatey packages encapsulate everything required to manage a particular piece of software into one deployment artifact by wrapping installers, executables, zips, and scripts, all into a compiled package file.

Chocolatey.org is a feed of packages provided and maintained by the community.

One of the latest available packages is NRS version 1.1.14.

To install the Nxt Client, run the following command from the command line or from PowerShell:

C:\> choco install nxt

To upgrade Nxt Client, run the following command from the command line or from PowerShell:

C:\> choco upgrade nxt

Chocolatey is a practical an easy way to install Nxt in a Windows system for users who want to keep it simple. However, keep in mind that this isn’t the original NRS software provided by the Nxt core developers, but rather an amplified project that another user has created by themselves to make it easier to install. By using Chocolatey, we are forced to trust the good intentions of the package creator so, in the end, we are run into a level of risk when installing software using chocolatey, one that must be taken into consideration when dealing with a sensitive software such as your Nxt wallet where you keep your money.

The only way to be completely sure that our Nxt wallet hasn’t been maliciously altered at all is by downloading the latest release from the official thread for new versions of the NRS at Nxtforum, or use the update function inside the Nxt client itself. Once downloaded, you must check that the sha256 hash is the same that Jean-Luc, Nxt core developer, announced on that thread.

  • Hyperledger Blog – Blockchains for Business: Why Decentralization is Still a Factor

This article by Travin Keith, Marketing Director and Blockchain Consultant of the Nxt Foundation, recently published an article on Hyperledger’s blog, which details some of the benefits that blockchain’s decentralized technology, such as the one with Nxt, can bring to business and organizations:

  •  Security: …there is always a high level of availability for the data. So, even if a large number of nodes fail or are shut down by an attack, the data is still available for people to access
  • Distributed Processing: …the system can also continue to process additional data and add more blocks into the blockchain… the system can continue operating as long as there are active nodes in the system…
  • Partnerships and Consortiums: …trust is not needed in terms of processing data as well as storing it… Verifying that one has the same information that another party has is relatively easy to do…

  • Core Media – Sigwo Technologies: Blockchain as a Service Platform

This article by Kanoptx published on the Core Media magazine, mentions the launch of Jupiter eSyslog, the private blockchain platform based on Nxt, managed by Sigwo Technologies.

The Jupiter eSyslog platform is based on the NXT world leading blockchain technology developed by Jelurida B.V. the company behind the NXT and Ardor blockchain technology.

This new platform intends to be a boundless way to ensure that the server logs are securely stored in recoverable, encrypted, and immutable databases, all with the highest grade of security so that the logs are always available. All the data is massively replicated across dozens of nodes, which makes Jupiter very resilient against attacks, even insider attacks.

Lior Yaffe, Nxt core developer and co-founder of Jelurida B.V., says:

The un-matched reliability, security and scalability provided by the NXT blockchain provides the Jupiter eSyslog platform the necessary tools to provide a world leading blockchain as service platform. We are delighted to work together with Sigwo Technologies to make eSyslog a de-facto standard in storage and maintenance of system log information.

  • Nxt Folks – Value of Blockchain Technology is Exponentially Growing in the Past Months

In this article at NxtFolks, The Wire Master goes over how BTC has managed to keep its price high, even after the SEC voted against the Winklevoss Bitcoin Trust ETF. However, after the result of this vote, it seems as though a considerable amount of money is moving from BTC towards some other cryptos, which is a clear sign that blockchain technology still arouses interest and people will continue to trust this tech despite the rejection.

The price of Dash, ETH, and Monero have risen significantly due to this movement of capital, although it’s worth noting that the price of NXT has experienced the same, though to a lower degree, as well. There is a tense situation in the BTC community at the moment, which looks to be there for some time, so it would be no surprise if this trend keeps up.

Maybe is the right timing for the Ardor launching, which will take place in the third quarter of 2017…

  • BLK Chain – Blockchain and Trust in Online Advertising

This article in French by Baptiste Lac, published on the BLKchain, speaks about some challenges and difficulties that the online advertising industry is facing and how blockchain technology could help to overcome these challenges. It’s expected that advertisers will demand more and more transparency in the contracts signed with advertising agencies. Here is where using smart contracts or Smart Transactions, which Nxt has built in its core, together with the use of assets, seems to be the right solution for this problem.

Smart Transactions will ensure that the rules signed regarding the visibility of ads are fulfilled, allowing businesses to make precise measurements to better evaluate the efficacy of the advertising campaign. According to the author, it’s also possible to carry out complete monitoring and audit of the views through analyzing the metadata associated with the received token.

Nxt news – March 2017 (II): My Tastes are Simple: I’m Easily Satisfied with the Best

NXT NxtCoin 2. generation cryptocurrency news

March 2017 (II)

Here’s some of the latest news about Nxt over this past week:

Below are more details about each of these topics:

  • Nxt Foundation – 2017 Marketing Strategy

The Nxt Foundation published a document with the general guidelines of its marketing strategy for 2017. The Foundation was created in 2014 to be a contact point for business and organizations and to link them with the decentralized open source of Nxt. Moreover, it has taken on some additional task such as community building and support, marketing, public relations, and education. Unlike what has happened with the other coins, BCNext, the anonymous creator of the platform, didn’t seek to make a killing with the ICO, but did so primarily for the token distribution of this PoS cryptoplatform. Because of the lack of resources after its creation, a lot of work done by the wider community was done voluntarily or by bounties set up by other community members. That’s the reason why assistance and participation from the community is still needed in order for Nxt and Ardor to truly flourish, hence the publication of this document.

As open source decentralized projects, Nxt and Ardor can only thrive when there is a community behind them. The Foundation will thus dedicate the necessary resources to support the existing community as well as to make it easier for new members to join the community

It has to be noted that this document isn’t mandatory, but rather intends to serve as a guide should members of the community wish to keep their efforts in sync with that of the Foundation.

  • CRYPT070 #6 – Blockchain Meetup Where Nxt and Ardor will be Present

The 6th CRYPT070 blockchain meetup will be held on the 23rd of March at The Hague. Nxt will be present at the event at 20:00 when Robert Reinder Nederhoed will introduce the future Ardor platform with his presentation titled “Colored Coins: What are the differences? What are the similarities? What are the perspectives?”

It should be noted that one of the first real implementations of the coloured coin concept was the Nxt Asset  Exchange. Nxt was designed and built to leverage this coloured coins idea. Nxt coins can be designated (‘coloured’) to represent other crypto coins, stocks/bonds, property, commodities, or even ideas. As a result, the Nxt network can be used to trade almost anything.

  • CoinsHost –  NXT Accepted To Pay For Your VPS

If you are interested in launching your own virtual server to run your own Nxt node (or your own Ardor node for testnet) you can now pay using NXT thanks to CoinsHost, a company created by a group of professionals and cryptocurrency enthusiasts who focus on DDoS protection and secure hosting services.

We have developed a powerful proprietary DDoS mitigation solution that is capable of mitigating massive and sophisticated attacks, leaving a targeted website or service unaffected.

CoinsHost designed its infrastructure with redundancy in mind – enterprise-class Supermicro® and Cisco® hardware, multiple TIER-1 upstream providers, dual power source with UPS, diesel generators and automatic switchover, multilayer IP packet filtering solution allow us to provide unmatched DDoS protected hosting with highest availability at a very reasonable price. We treat decentralized currencies based on encryption as completely legit payment methods and encourage our clients to pay with them. Besides Bitcoin, Litecoin and Nextcoin P2P currencies, we accept a wide range of other payment methods…

You can choose among many different sizes of servers, with Linux or Windows as your operating system. Since Nxt is a PoS coin, it doesn’t require powerful servers to run, thus the most simple and cheap server offered by this company is more than enough to create your Nxt or Ardor node (or even both simultaneously) and start forging. Set up your node and start collaborating with the Nxt network by forging blocks and you’ll also be entitled to participate in Megalodon’s campaign to earn even more NXT!

  • Private Blockchain Evaluation Kit v1.11.4

Riker, Nxt and Ardor core developer and member of Jelurida, made a post on Nxtforum announcing the release of the first version of the software to evaluate the operation of private blockchains, which a modified version of Nxt 1.11.4. Using the “Private Blockchain Evaluation Kit”, users will now be able to rapidly prototype, develop, and test Nxt-based applications on a private, local testnet, without having to join the public testnet or the production blockchain.

Lior Yaffe says:

We expect this evaluation release to be useful for the following purposes:
1. Application developers who plan to eventually deploy their application to public Nxt blockchain.
2. Businesses evaluating the suitability of the Nxt platform for their own private blockchain use case.
3. Academic research and experimentation with proof of stake blockchain technology.
4. Users who want to learn how the Nxt blockchain works, without having to purchase NXT or ask for testnet coins.

Any company can use this to setup a private network, the limitation of this kit, is that the Genesis account with a well known passphrase can submit transactions. We believe that this by itself prevents the usage of this private blockchain for production and that whomever wants to use it for production will need to license a fully functional version from Jelurida.

Jean-Luc, member of Jelurida, also notes:

The license doesn’t allow production use

In the “Nxt in the Media” section of this magazine, we also mention other news platforms that have covered this launch.

  • Ardor – v2.0.2e For the Testnet

On the 11th of March, Jean-Luc, Nxt and Ardor lead core developer and member of Jelurida, released the last version of Ardor for the tesnet v2.0.2, and it’s a mandatory update due to its incompatible changes.

This release introduces an incompatible networking change in bundler rates propagation and is therefore a mandatory update for all Ardor testnet nodes.

This version brings some improvements in bundler rate handling and APIs. Among theses changes include: the Bundler rates changed to being broadcasted every 30 min instead of an hour, the added Bundle action for child chain transactions in the UI, some bug fixes, and many more (see the full changelog here)

  • Mac Installer

This new version also includes a full installer for Mac devices, which wasn’t available in previous releases. You can download it from https://bitbucket.org/JeanLucPicard/ardor/downloads/ardor-installer-2.0.2e.dmg

  • The Merkle – Top 5 Cryptocurrencies That Can’t be Mined

Most people involved in the cryptocurrency ecosystem are aware of the Proof of Work algorithm that Bitcoin uses. People often talk about the big mining farms with plenty of powerful computers that waste an incredible amount of energy and other resources, as they need to compete against each other in a race to generate the next block in the Bitcoin blockchain. This can lead to a certain level centralization in the hands of miners.

, writer of this article for The Merkle, goes over this issue and enumerates some coins that can’t be mined, i.e. ones that don’t use Proof of Work to run. Nxt is listed among them since it is the first 100% Proof of Stake cryptoplatform:

NXT is a popular altcoin that cannot be mined in the traditional sense. It is possible for users to forge new coins, but it doesn’t require dedicated hardware to do so. Instead, users need to leave their wallet open – assuming it contains a balance – and they will earn small amounts of interest in the process. NXT runs a proof-of-stake algorithm, which makes mining in the traditional way obsolete.

  • Fintech Finance – Nxt Development Team Releases Private Blockchain Evaluation Kit

Fintech.Finance wrote about the launch of the Private Blockchain Evaluation Kit by Jelurida BV to make it possible for people to perform private and local tests of private blockchains based on Nxt, which will allow developers to test their apps in a secure and safe environment, as we have previously mentioned in this same newsletter.Lior Yaffe, member of Jelurida, states in the article:

The Nxt Private Blockchain Evaluation Kit we have designed creates a safe, ready-made environment for businesses and developers to test how Nxt can be applied to their needs. It provides a comprehensive kit to answer any questions potential users might have regarding the efficacy of Nxt Blockchain technology.

  • Payments Compliance – Singapore Readies Blockchain Trial Cross Border Payments

This article by Jimmy Nicholls at Payments Compliance explains how the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), with the support of big banks such as HSBC, JP Morgan, and other financial groups, are ready to begin testing whether cross-border payments could be carried out using distributed ledger technology, following a successful pilot for carrying out interbank payments which will work together with the country’s electronic payment system, thus becoming a concrete use case for the distributed ledger technology.

The text reveals some details about the procedure and also offers some opinions from relevant people in the blockchain environment, such as Travin Keith, a board member of the Nxt Foundation:

…both banks and consumers could gain from lower costs associated with the project. While the banks themselves will definitely benefit due to the lower costs of transferring funds from one bank to the other, these savings could be passed on to their customers as well… The distributed ledger technology industry as a whole will benefit given the initial steps of the adoption of the technology not requiring an overhaul of the current system.

I think other jurisdictions with a similar infrastructure in place can adopt systems like these especially given Singapore’s overall positive reputation in banking.

  • First Report Economic News – Nxt Foundation Leads the Way with Blockchain Technology

Matt Cesare and Andrew Stiles wrote this article at First Report Economics where they go over the role and objectives of the Nxt Foundation. The text explains how blockchain technology has a great future ahead because of the great versatility and security it brings to the world of finance.

Instead of transferring information linearly from base A to base B to base C, information is updated through all parts of the chain.

An example may clarify this: when sending a legal document via email, the receiver must sign that document, save the changes, and then send back the new version of the document. In contrast, blockchain technology is more similar to editing a document on Google’s live document editing tool; editors can change the document simultaneously, and all changes are updated and saved real-time, all while the record of the changes are kept.

Blockchain allows everybody involved in a transaction to see what is happening with the transaction when it is happening. There are no delays and no uncertainties.

The article also mentions some of the third party projects that benefit from Nxt technology, such as Janus, Digital Billions, SuperNET, and others.

The Nxt Foundation is the primary point of contact for companies who intend to build something on Nxt. It’s composed by well-known members among the blockchain industry, such as Damelon, founder of the Nxt Foundation, who has recently become an advisor of the Internet of Coins board, and Travin Keith, a board member of the Foundation, who is in charge of (among many other things) representing the Nxt Foundation as it collaborates with Hyperledger. Definitely a great team to achieve great results!

Nxt news – February 2017 (II): The Best Way to Predict Your Future is to Create It

NXT NxtCoin 2. generation cryptocurrency news
February 2017 (II)

Here’s some of the latest news about Nxt over this past week in February:

Below, are more details about each of them:

  • SNAPSHOT – Digital and PoD edition of the Book Now For Sale

After the successful sale of the printed collector’s edition of “SNAPSHOT – Nxt, Unsurpassable Blockchain Solutions”, where 200 numbered units were sold in record time, Nxter.org has finally made this book available in digital and PoD (Print on Demand) editions. Now, anyone who’s interested in owning a piece of Nxt history can buy it. You can buy the book straight from Nxter.org or through many other popular distribution platforms.

The book is a collection of articles, which, after a short introduction to the concept of blockchain technology, looks into the history of Nxt, the world’s first 100% PoS blockchain 2.0 platform that’s oriented to both users and businesses. From its tumultuous launch in 2013, the pros and cons of its distribution model, and the anonymous inventor, BCNext, who handed over the source code to the community and gave them the responsibility to enhance the tech and ecosystem, the book takes the reader on a journey through ups and downs, features, use cases, business projects, and organizational adoption of the technology.

– A collection of articles, which, after a short introduction to the concept of blockchain technology, looks deep into Nxt.

The multi-million dollar fintech and blockchain industries have been advancing at a rapid pace over the past few years, so why is Nxt, an underfunded open source project, still the most advanced? In 228 pages, the articles found in this book tell the story of how a group of mostly anonymous people, investors, cryptographers, economists, and, certainly not least, software developers, as well as businesses, set out to change the world.

If you buy the digital edition of the book from NXTER.ORG you’ll also receive a FREE BONUS of a code to redeem 100 NXTP assets, the pdf version of the Nxt 2nd Anniversary e-book, all together with the “SNAPSHOT – Nxt, Unsurpassable Blockchain Solutions” ebook package (.mobi, .epub and .pdf)

  • Ardor – Testnet Launched

After a few weeks completing the necessary work and sharing some of the images, on the 11th of February, Jean-Luc, Nxt and Ardor lead core developer, has finally announced the launch of Ardor’s testnet. After some previous testing done by some members of the Nxt community who were very knowledgeable about the platform, the Ardor testnet is finally ready

From this moment on, much more testing on the features that this platform offers is needed to be done before the launch of mainnet in the third quarter of this year. Thus, this period of time is not only meant to let people have a glimpse into the capabilities of Ardor, but will also let the developers make sure that the platform works properly and make the necessary minor adjustments.

This is an experimental release for testing only. Source code is not provided.

Come on and join us to test the new platform! You can download the software from Github and start experiencing Ardor right now!

  • NRS Update – Version 1.11.3

This new version of the NRS has been released just one day before the launch of Ardor’s testnet. The changelog for this version includes some minor bug fixing, small changes in the way the media files are dealt with in the Data cloud, as well as updates to the Jetty version.

You can download the NRS update straight from your current Nxt client or from Github. Always make sure that the given SHA256 signature is exactly the same as the hash of that file. You can check this using your NRS wallet or other online third party services that allow you to do so, so that you are absolutely sure that you are receiving the legitimate file.

  • NSD – A Project Based on Nxt is Nominated for the Futures Options World Award

In April 2016, Russia’s National Settlement Depository announced that they have successfully developed a decentralized voting system, based on Nxt’s Voting System, that was able to process 80 votes per second. Since then, we’ve recently heard that this project was nominated for the Futures Options World Award, which took place last December. This project was announced with the following statement:

The prototype is based on the NXT distributed cryptographic platform, and uses ISO 20022 international standard for messaging. NSD has been working on the project together with DSX Technologies. The project’s open-source code is available on GitHub.

As we mentioned in a previous newsletter, the NSD has ignored the GPLv2 license conditions, and still hasn’t released the code of their new development. The repository they previously used (https://github.com/dsx-tech/e-voting/tree/master/sources/e-voting) only shows a CLOSED SOURCE “nxt.jar” file under the “libs” folder, and the client-side code, which is used to interface with that modified Nxt server code. Therefore, the NSD is clearly breaching the conditions of the license.

Below is an extract of the FAQ for the GNU GPL v2 license:

Does the GPL require that source code of modified versions be posted to the public?
…if you release the modified version to the public in some way, the GPL requires you to make the modified source code available to the program’s users, under the GPL.

We’d like to remind businesses, financial entities, governments, or any person interested in using the Nxt code, that they must respect the license agreement.

  • Decentralize Today – Massive Business Opportunities Hidden in the Nxt Blockchain

Websioux, admin at scriba.io, among others, and member of the Nxt community, has published an interesting article on the news platform Decentralize Today about the Nxt blockchain and the future Ardor platform. The text talks about the new usage possibilities that this technology offers to entrepreneurs and how it can be profitable for their traditional business.

The author accounts for some features included in the Nxt blockchain and explains some practical use cases for businesses, such as: open ledger, which allows you to see all the transactions from/to an account; the data cloud, which allows you to publish small files on the blockchain; private messaging, which allows you to issue contracts that can be verified by consulting the blockchain; account control, which can be used to organize governance in a transparent way, and many more.

The internet is available 24/7 for a party to sign any contract and for outsiders to verify contracts integrity!

The initiative for starting a nuclear regulatory commission using Nxt, which we mentioned in a previous newsletter as well, is one of the innovative examples that the author, already a member of that club, sets as an example of what can be achieved with Nxt.

  • Deep Dot Web – An Overview Of Smart Contract Scripting For Cryptocurrency Blockchains

In this article by Tamer Sameeh published on Deep Dot Web, the author talks about Smart Contracts, a concept that was coined by the cryptographer Nick Szabo aiming at revolutionizing contract law and formal business practices via the innovation of electronic commerce protocols among trustless parties across the internet

The author explains the evolution that this concept has experienced, its practical applications, and how this concept is applied in different blockchains. Among these, he includes Nxt, though inadequately in our opinion, because Nxt lacks this specific feature of Smart Contracts

Riker, a Nxt and Ardor core developer, clarified some time ago this subject:

“Rather than providing smart contracts, NXT is focused on implementing important use cases and functions directly into the core of both Nxt and Ardor. This approach has proven to be scalable and secure and will become more so when Ardor is released”

However, the text is correct when mentioning that Nxt has a comprehensive API that allows users, together with the Smart Transactions that are implemented in Nxt, a great versatility when developing something close to a Smart Contract.

A portion of the article is based on the results of a research paper published here, a document that has some inaccuracies about the Nxt platform. Fortunately, Pablo Lamela, one of the authors of the article, had the opportunity to chat with Lior Yaffe, to clarify some of these questions. This is what Riker stated after that talk:

Had a good call with @palas and explained a few things about NXT (and ETH), I hope they’ll incorporate my feedback into a more accurate paper

Have a look at the Developers Section to learn about all the features that Nxt has.

  • Thinkmind.org – Emergence of Distributed Autonomous Institutions

ThinkMind, a news platform, has published an article, written by Mariusz Nowostawski and Christopher K. Frantz, included  at The Sixth International Conference on Social Media Technologies, Communication, and Informatics – SOTICS 2016

The article presents a novel institutional perspective on the distributed consensus and ledger technology known as blockchain. The text talks about the tools that blockchain technology brings to push Distributed Autonomous Institutions and the benefits they would bring, such as facilitating global interactions, contracts, and value transfers, all of which are achieved without the need for the human-based third party.

The author also explains how the technology offered by Nxt/Ardor allows us, even today, to achieve this objective:

A proposed solution to this problem is the use of child chains to coordinate asset-based transactions as implemented in the new blockchain alternative Ardor… In contrast to Ethereum’s support for general-purpose code, Ardor will concentrate on specific asset-based transactions… The security model is further strengthened by supporting complex preconditions for the execution of transactions… The concept furthermore includes built-in mechanisms to manage governance and decision-making processes in a reliable and anonymous fashion.

Nxt news – November 2016 (IV): Good Wine Gets Better with Age

Newsletter-topNovember 2016 (IV)

Here, we bring you some of the latest news about Nxt over this past week in November:

Below, we give you more details about these news:

  • Hack for Democracy: First Hackathon about Online Voting

Martis has announced, on NxtChat on Slack, a hackaton for elections, organized by Tech City Lithuania, which will take place from the 2nd to the 4th of December, 2016. Since one of Nxt’s most exclusive and groundbreaking features is the Decentralized Voting System (which, in some occasions, has already been used by some other  corporations), it might be beneficial for some members of the Nxt community take part in this hackaton.

Here’s the original announcement that was published on Slack:

Democracy is not inevitable or a given; it must be sustained and strengthened by each generation. Today, democracy in the World is challenged by unlimited political contributions, polarized legislatures and opaque processes. Nevertheless, technology can make an important contribution toward improving democratic institutions.

With a strong belief in technology, “Tech City Lithuania” is organizing a hackathon focused on elections, politics and open democratic processes.

How can you participate?

Do you have an idea how to organize online voting? What tools do we need to improve data security? What data would make elections more transparent? Join civic hackers, data analysts and designers to make progress on these and other questions related to elections and politics.

These are the main tasks to be solved during the hackaton:

1. Display of voting results in real time
2. Data security
3. Voter identity authentication
4. Voters’ activity
5. Trust (possibility to check, that their vote was not changed and for vote anonymity)
6. All solutions in one

This is why they are looking for coders who could participate in it. People interested in helping with this event to use the Nxt blockchain should join the #developers channel on Nxtchat on Slack.

  • CryptoHolics – Interview with Travin Keith and Dave Pearce

Cryptoholics did an interesting interview with the members of the Nxt Foundation – Travin Keith (AKA marenkar) and Dave Pearce (AKA evildave).

After a short introduction, Travin and Dave started the interview with a thorough explanation of the differences between Bitcoin and Nxt, pointing out the innovative and disruptive features that it has. Nxt isn’t just a coin, because it also has an Asset Exchange, Coin Shuffle, Data Cloud, as well as an official NRS client loaded with these functionalities and more. Anyone can create their own asset at a ridiculously low price. as well as use systems for many other functionalities that turn Nxt into a really complete decentralized cryptoplatform.

[vsw id=”sju2KIStV_I” source=”youtube” width=”425″ height=”344″ autoplay=”no”]

The interview also deals with other subjects, such as:

– What Ardor is and what it intends: Dave and Travin explains how Ardor will have a main chain and a lot of child chains. This way, the blockchain bloat problem will be solved and anybody can launch their own chain secured by Ardor (the users of the chain won’t need to own ARDR), all while many transactions will take place per second.

Roadmap for the coming years: Governance in a decentralized community, what the current and future situation of cryptocoins are, and the Hyperledger project…

  • IBS Intelligence – Nxt’s Third Birthday

This past week, Nxt celebrated the third anniversary of its launch. Nxt was launched on the 24th of November, 2013, at 12:00 GMT. This 2.0 blockchain, also the first 100% PoS one, has had many changes and suffered big evolutions since its inception. Innovation and the inclusion of new features have been a constant trend during these three years, thus keeping Nxt at the forefront in its field and establishing a great level of security that some other supposed alternative coins can’t even imagine, all together with a passionate community surround it. So… HAPPY BIRTHDAY NXT!

Scott Thompson, editor at IBS Intelligence, wrote an article about Nxt where some current usage statistics are shown. Among them include: 2.3 million of transactions made, 160 000 accounts opened and 800 assets issued. Bas Wisselink, as a member of the Nxt Foundation and of Jelurida, also takes part in the article by expressing his hopes about the future of the platform.

  • Come-From-Beyond – Publishes BCNext Account’s Private Key

During these celebrations, Come-From-Beyond, one of the first developers of Nxt, made the following announcement on BitcoinTalk:

BCNext decided to stay anonymous. To execute his will I publish the private key to 1BCN1ugdKdWd9pQ8Am9hMhtHZfmbXzxE8a address which was used to sign his messages, till today only BCNext had access to the key, since today everyone does. Feel free to take those few satoshis left on the address.

This surprising and brief message has served, for some community members, as confirmation to their suspicions, and it has taken them no time to assert that BCNext’s true identity is CFB, a presumption that has been in their minds for a long time, but lacked substantial evidence. For those people, this has been the definitive confirmation.

However, some other voices claim that, despite this suspicious statement, there are still some reasonable doubts about the real identity of BCNext, because many members of the original development team could have previously accessed that private key (and not just one person), so it will be impossible to assert who truly is the real person behind BCNext.

The ambiguity in the message from CFB (maybe consciously, maybe not) won’t let us draw definitive conclusions, and it makes all theories, to some degree, plausible. And maybe the lack of definite and undeniable evidences is the best because, this way, all Nxters can keep their mental picture of the person who was able to reflect the great, brilliant and original idea that, in the end, has resulted in the Nxt we know today. The debate is still on, so… Imagine!

  • NXT Debit Card – Make purchases with your NXTs

User nxtdebitcard, a newcomer to the community, announced a few weeks ago on Nxtforum.org about the first NXT-funded debit card, together with a service for recharging your mobile number all around the world and many other services, all of them offered by the UQUID team.

Some of the advantages announced by the card issuer are as follows:

No deposit fee – Anonymous – Multi cards buy support – Fast and free delivery

To be able to use it, we have to sign in to UQUID, where a new Nxt account will be assigned to us, so that we can make our deposits. The NXT sent there will be automatically converted to USD/EUR, at market price, by means of the Shapeshift service.

As with any other service, prior to using it, we recommend that everyone carefully reads the terms of use and the fees charged when using that service which, sometimes, can be significant. Some well-known forum users have already tried the card in a test buy with no problem.

I can confirm, that I ordered card and received it (in 2 weeks). Funded it and spent some EUR in shop with it.

However, Bitcoin debit cards have been around for quite some time, like the ones offered by Wirex, Xapo, etc. Since the Nxt Reference Software allows us to directly use the Shapeshift service, by means of a couple of clicks we can convert some of our NXT into BTC, and use them to recharge our Bitcoin debit card on the platform we choose. We could also use the Nxt  Asset Exchange to buy SuperBTC (every SuperBTC asset is 100% backed with real BTC) in a decentralized manner, and use the Multigateway services to send these BTC to our card’s deposit account.

As we always do, we’d like to remind you to take the necessary precautions when trusting your NXT with third parties. These services use Nxt but are not a part of Nxt, so the security level offered by the NRS (where only you know your secret passphrase and where you can even set greater level of security with the Account control) won’t be the same once we’ve sent our NXT to these centralized external platforms.

Nxt news – November 2016 (I): There is no friend as loyal as a book

Newsletter-topNovember 2016 (I)

Here, we bring you some of the latest news about Nxt over this past week in November:

Below, we give you more details about these news:

  • More information about the official NRS app

Last week we mentioned that the experimental version 1.11.0 of NRS was also available as an App for your Android or iOS mobile phone.

Jean-Luc announced:

Experimental support for running the client wallet as a mobile app has been added. See specific documentation at https://nxtwiki.org/wiki/Mobile_App

The app works pretty much the same as when running your desktop NRS client in LIGHT mode. It automatically connects to a random Nxt node to perform all the operations in real time. Besides being able to use all the functionalities of NRS on our mobile phones, this opens up a wide range of new possibilities.

Riker says:

One interesting use case for the mobile app is to use an old phone or tablet completely offline only for signing transactions. This way you never have to expose your passphrase to online computer. See https://nxtwiki.org/wiki/Offline_Transaction_Signing.  If someone likes to try this and report their experience that would be great.

Functionalities that require sending your passphrase to the node, such as to start forging, have been disabled on the app. For security reasons, transactions are signed locally prior to being sent to the remote node. This way, your passphrase never leaves your computer.

  • Questions and answers about Nxt Freewallet

User lostintranslation, co-founder of Freewallet, has made some some clarifications on the Nxtchat on Slack about how this unofficial Nxt wallet for mobile devices works, which we went over in our previous newsletter.

About the code being open-source and how the company makes profits:

It’s like Coinbase, it is not an opensource solution.
…Regarding monetization model: we’ve got one. We have announced the top ups with credit cards, soon we’ll have even more fiat options.

About users being able to retrieve their Nxt passphrase from Freewallet and managing ARDR with the same wallet as NXT

…not for the moment, that’s why we’re in Beta… but soon we’ll have features to control your keys with a passphrase.
…No separate wallets for the moment. But will consider that.

About the integration of Changelly in the App:

I’m personal fan of Nxt so we support both (Nxt & Ardor), and we made guys from Changelly to do that.
…wait for updates. Freewallet soon will issue cards

More questions about Freewallet can be directed to the user lostintranslation on NxtChat in Slack

  • Snapshot – The first book about Nxt

Nxter magazine and Plaisir d’histoire have finished editing Snapshot, the first book about the Nxt platform. The book has 228 pages full of information and will be available both in a printed Collector’s Edition as well as an eBook. The date of launch is expected to coincide with Nxt’s third anniversary

Lionel Jeannerat (AKA Ludom) says:

Last year, Nxter magazine proposed a special gift for the 2nd birthday of Nxt: a free PDF containing articles about Nxt in four different languages.

After that, we launched a crowdfunding campaign to finance the translation and the printing of this book. It was a success: https://nxtforum.org/general-discussion/(crowdfunding)-the-first-book-about-nxt

But the work took more time than we expected. The changes in the community and in the Nxt agenda (with Ardor) didn’t help because we needed to complete and correct lot of informations. But finally, we did it!!!

Nxter Magazine and Plaisir d’histoire presents:

The making of this book has congregated many illustrious members of the Nxt community, and all of them have brought their expertise and experiences to make the book a great compendium, useful to any nxter or person excited about the possibilities that this blockchain technology allows. The chapters of the book are filled with interesting bits of information and experiences.

There are many quotes that can stand out from the book. For example, Arthur Penzl, of Nxter.org, writes in the book:

The future will not be centralised. It will be you.

Jean-Luc, Nxt lead core developer, writes in the book:

Nxt has been designed from scratch to serve as a platform for much more than simple money transfer transactions. The relative ease with which new features have been added regularly every few months during the las three years proves the well-designed and flexible architecture of Nxt

Roberto Capodieci, blockchain expert, writes in the book:

Nxt is the most amazing decentralised tool that knows no borders, no central authorities, no risks of fraud. With it’s API and hundreds of endpoint calls, Nxt is an easy tool to integrate with other software solutions, thus being the perfect solution for each business need

For those of you who took part in the crowdfunding campaign, Ludom says:

You can send your assets pbookeng (Asset ID 7676447843512066742) with your postal address to NXT-MDL9-ZDLP-PQ5N-HMKG NXT-DE5P-4A5T-6SHU-7FHCV

If you own an asset for ebooks (ebookeng, ebookfre, ebookrus), you don’t have to do anything. You’ll receive directly a link to download the ebook at the 3rd Nxt Birthday. The book is not translated in French and Russian (sorry but it is to much work for us!), the ebookfre and ebookrus owners will receive the ebook in English + an extra surprise.

Nxter Magazine

Furthermore, there’s a special offer for the members of the Nxt community, before issuing the book in other shops:

We propose an exclusive possibility to the community to receive the book and ebook before the 24 November.

Next week, we’ll launch our shop on Nxt Marketplace. We’ll sell:
– the last 35 collector books: ~25$ + shipping costs
– e-book: ~10$

At the 3rd birthday of Nxt, 24 November, we’ll switch off the shop on Nxt Marketplace. Then we’ll propose the book and ebook on more traditional shops. The price will be 25$ + shipping costs for the the collector books, 10$ for the ebook.

Thank you all who have make possible that this book possible.

  • NxtFolks – Real application idea for Ardor child-chain

TheWireMaster goes over in this article published on Nxtfolks about a new application for what Ardor could be used for: companies could use child chains to use its tokens as a way to replace the more traditional rewarding system of that company. With this incentive, (tokens) workers will be encouraged to do a better job because of the prize.

Once the employee has acquired enough tokens, they could use the Marketplace to exchange those tokens for products, shop vouchers, or anything else the company can offer. This way, workers would have one more incentive to do their job properly.

  • Liquidtech – Pays a 500,000NXT dividend

On the 1st of November, Libertynow, who issued LQD, gave away half a million NXT to LQD holders as monthly dividends. Good news for this fund that continues on working successfully after the hard times it went through a couple of months ago, as we mentioned in a previous newsletter.

The results could have been even better if it hadn’t been for the attempt to trade with the newest and more fashionable altcoin, which in the end, was traded in a manipulated marked.

Libertynow says:

Asset sales continued strong this month.  It was actually a really good month until I tried to trade ZEC and the bot failed miserably.  I still decided to pay out 1.2NXT/asset in dividends, however, since the rest of the month was quite successful.

Dividends paid: 500,000 NXT
Dividends/Asset: 1.2 NXT

  • Tipper Service – Included in the NxtWiki

NxtSwe has made it! A detailed documentation of his tipper service has been included in the NxtWiki. In his latest update, he explained:

I’ve updated the bot a few times since my original post, but never posted anything about it here. Some of these are old updates, and some are quite recent ones. Also, the bot is now also running in crypto chat (digitalcash.slack.com) Slack team as well as nxtchat, thanks marenkar for making this happen!

Riker was kind enough to set up a wiki page for the bot.

The new developments, as NxtSwe reflects, are:

  • Added ‘list’ command to show a list of supported assets / ms currencies.
  • Added monikers for the units, for example, when sending ardr you can use ‘ardor’ or ‘nxt2.0’. These can be listed in the list command above.
  • The bot now reacts to @tipper as well as just tipper when sending tips in a public channel.
  • When sending currency/asset to an account that does not have any NXT, an extra DM is sent to the sender with information that the recipient does not have any NXT and that it might be a good idea to send some in order for the asset/currency to be useful.
  • Send tips directly to NXT addresses, using the same syntax as tipping a user. Just swap @username with a NXT-XXX address.

  • Hyperledger Project – The role of the Nxt Foundation

The Nxt Foundation became an affiliated of the Linux Foundation and the Hyperledger project, as we announced in a previous newsletter when the news become official. However, there are still some concerns about what the Hyperledger project is and what role the Nxt Foundation plays there. Travin Keith, of the Nxt Foundation, is the marketing representative to Hyperledger. He recently gave us some answers to these questions:

Hyperledger is a project by the Linux Foundation that is a collaborative effort among the participating organizations to promote the use of a distributed ledger (blockchain) and bring it to mainstream business and organizational use

The Nxt Foundation benefits a lot by being a part of the Hyperledger project, even if some of the work that’s done creates a conflict of interest (them making their own blockchain vs using the Nxt blockchain or an Ardor child chain). I get to hear directly from these influential representatives what needs they have and how they think blockchain technology could help them. These discussions really help out with regards to figuring out how Nxt or Ardor can complement them or maybe even substitute them for other companies.

Another thing is that it helps the Nxt Foundation be a credible source of information. One of the things being discussed is a book, and I’m trying to be one of the authors for it. I’m still trying to gauge the level of knowledge that other representatives have with regards to the public blockchain space… I’m trying to be proactive and joining sub-committees to try to get a stronger reputation. At the moment, I’m not able to attend events, for various reasons, but I hope to in the very near future. It seems to be one of the best ways to talk with them as the calls can sometimes be a bit crowded.

They know about the existence of Nxt, and maybe Ardor, but it’s important that I don’t push it too much. I’m not there to sell, I’m there to collaborate and learn… Keep in mind that all these other companies also have something to offer the others, and so there’s an unspoken rule that we don’t sell to each other. I think this is where going to events personally will make the most sense, because I’m then able to meet up with them after work… on the calls, it’s usually during regular working hours, so they only want to stick to the agenda, which I understand.

  • Janus Token – Chooses the Nxt – Ardor platform

The user bjorn_bb, representing Janushas announced that this team will be joining Nxt platform in the near future. Nxt features, together with the help offered by the Nxt Foundation, has made them take this decission.

We hope to launch within the next 2 weeks if everything goes as planned.

All major questions should be answered by both our whitepaper and FAQ. Since we are going to be part of the Nxt and then Ardor platforms (for at least a  decade) when that is ready my team and I will be here for any questions that are not covered in our site/threads/papers  as well.

Our goal is to create our parent company and then house several businesses under this conglomerate to form a large online presence in traditional global and country specific business industries. It will at first sound extremely ambitious, and it is, however this is not a newly formed idea and has been in incubation with my business partners and I for years. We are currently owner/operators of a bitcoin business for over a year and decided that including the blockchain community in our future work could be a better alternative than tradition angel investment. After reviewing all platforms for months and speaking with several developers of each platform we found the Nxt team/foundation and blockchain to be the best for our uses now and in the future.

We’ll push to get Janus launched asap though as the token sale deadline is Dec 31st and we aren’t changing that so 2017 can start a series of businesses launched. When the sale launches half my staff will be helpiung the communication to the public the other will continue working on our businesses.

This foundation is incredible, they are very good people and we are very pleased to have found such a great commodity in blockchain… after speaking to them weekly for months they are professional and very committed to this platform and those like ourselves looking to create large businesses and using this platform.

  • DeBuNe – Last assets for sale at a discount

Roberto Capodieci, DeBuNe‘s CEO, has announced that he has just offered the last 10,000 DeBuNe assets for sale at a discount on Nxt’s Asset Exchange. As he explains, once nxters have bought all these assets, which will happen soon given the volume of purchases being made, an ICO for the general public will take place. When the ICO is over, it will mean that all the money necessary will have been collected, and DeBuNe will finally be launched.

Roberto says:

With Transaction 16419882809150848464 the last 10k shares of DeBuNe have been put on the AE for 40NXT each, leaving DeBuNe 750k assets.

The ICO will start at a value of NXT45 per asset going up, for a total amount of 250k assets.

I really can’t wait the ICO to be over to launch DeBuNe :)

This article was written by lhcn57 and talks about Nxt and the asset ARDR, which will be launched on the 13th of October, once the snapshot period is over. The article explains how each ARDR represents a token for the new cryptoplatform Ardor, which is expected to be launched in the 3rd quarter of 2017. Until this time arrives, ARDR will be freely tradeable in Nxt’s Asset Exchang.

Lhcn57 also mentions IGNIS, the very first child chain on Ardor, of which tokens will be also given away among the current NXT holders, although in this occasion, the snapshot period won’t last 3 months as there will be just one snapshot that will take place at the same time that Ardor goes live.

  • Ardor and Nxt FAQ on Reddit

The Nxt Foundation is building a Frequently Asked Questions that will come in really handy to solve concerns to those who have just joined the Nxt/Ardor community specifically those Reddit users who follow the subreddits https://www.reddit.com/r/nxt and https://www.reddit.com/r/Ardor

Here are some sample questions from the FAQ. Marenkar, of the Nxt Foundation, states:

There’s been a lot of questions coming back repeatedly, which isn’t really bad in my opinion as it indicates that there’s new people coming in. However, there are a few misconceptions going around so we’re creating this in order to clear some things up.

What is Ardor?

Ardor is a scalable blockchain platform with child chains. With it, people can use blockchain technology without having to build things from scratch. In addition, they will be able to trade with other child chains on the platform. Since it is built with Nxt technology, the features of Nxt, like Assets, Messaging, and Voting, will be available on the child chains

What is IGNIS?

IGNIS will be the first child chain of Ardor.

How do I get IGNIS Tokens?

Before the launch of Ardor, there will be a one-time snapshot to all accounts with NXT. You will receive 50% of whatever amount of NXT you have at that time. Like with the snapshotting for ARDR, no NXT will be burned.

The list will be updated on a regular basis. To check all the questions and answer, please click here

  • More testnodes are needed to test the mobile app

Riker, NRS Core Dev, made the following call to Nxt users:

Folks, in order to test the mobile app we need more 1.10.2 testnet nodes.
Currently we have only 5 nodes out of which only 2 has open APIs and only one supports SSL.

Would be great if some of you can update their tesnet nodes to 1.10.2 then fire up their testnet nodes and set them to use open APIs with the following nxt.properties:
nxt.myAddress=<IP address>
nxt.apiServerHost=<IP address>

If someone can also setup SSL for the API peer that’s even better.

The final objective of strengthening the Testnet is to be able to test the proper behaviour of the mobile phone app, which is already in an advanced stage of development and will come in really handy for a lot of users and will subsequently open up a new world of possibilities.

Some time later after the first announcement, Riker gave us some more details about the future Nxt mobile app:

1 – The app is based on Html5, ionic (http://ionicframework.com/) and Cordova (https://cordova.apache.org/) being so, the same codebase should be able to support all the major mobile platforms with minimal customization. We will start with Android though.

2- Our aim is to create an app signed by the NXT foundation which will be deployed to the official app stores.

3- The app will use two modes: (a) “Mobile Friendly” – simplistic UI which looks good on mobile devices but with limited functionality which we will enhance gradually. (b) “Web Wallet” – which is essentially the existing browser UI with few minor modifications to make it usable on a small form factor devices. Users will be able to seamlessly switch between these two flavors.

4- The app will try to leverage mobile tech to enhance the user experience, for example by scanning QR codes using the mobile device camera instead of having to type or copy/paste data, where applicable.

If any of you need some help about setting up a testnode, the following video by our college Mrcluster87 will come in really handy for you. In spite of the fact that the NRS version in the tutorial isn’t the latest, the configuration procedure is the same:

  • PPA – The easiest and fastest way to install the NRS in Ubuntu

Bcdev explains to us how to easily install the Nxt client in your Ubuntu-based computer. You just have to add the proper repository to your repository list on your computer, by running the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:nxtcrypto/nxt
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nxt nxt-bootstrap-blockchain

On a VPS the process took 1m45s from start to end, but that’s mainly because it has a fast internet connection.
If you’re on a different distribution, here is the blockchain bootstrap.

This way, we’ll always be able to install the latest stable version of the program and, when we search for updates for the system, Ubuntu will also have a look at that repository. If it finds a newer version, it will be automatically updated.

  • Governance of blockchains and Nxt perspective

In this article, Bas Wisselink of the Nxt Foundation talks about a subject that it’s often left out when analyzing an open-source project- the project management structure. It may seem that developing an open-source project is completely anarchistic and has no structure, but previous experiences show us that that’s not true.

Bas performs a short analysis of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Nxt, comparing among them aspects such as if the Development team follows the “Cathedral” model (less open to external contribution) or the “Bazaar” model (more open to external contribution), whether the governance system follows the “Benevolent dictator” model (less open to participatory governance) or the “Formal meritocracy” model (more open to participatory governance). These three cryptos show major differences and some similarities in these aspects.

Short after Nxt was invented, BCNext, the original developer, handed the project to the community that, at that time, was already formed. Anybody could step in and continue the development. Many developers joined and, step-by-step, all of them soon consolidated around Jean-Luc, who since then became the lead developer of Nxt with Lior Yaffe as Project Manager.

The three cryptos share the same tripod of developers, “miners”, and entrepreneurs, in their governance system mixed together in different proportions and with different degrees of power for each agent. In the case of Nxt, a bunch of people with an entrepreneurial background established the Nxt Foundation with the aim to connect with real-world businesses with the platform. The Foundation tries to coordinate the community while carrying out marketing and sales campaigns. The Nxt Foundation does not incorporate core developers into its board, but both sides provide each other with feedback, such as about the needs and complaints of the users as well as the vision of the future of the platform. Ardor, for example, is a result of this collaboration.

Alexandre Eich-Gozzi, member of the Nxt Foundation, explains in this article the complex procedures that are involved in international trade. Millions of documents and customs declarations are carried out every year where many agents with their own proprietary solutions get involved in each of them, trying to solve all the possible use cases that may come up when working with other agents and their own solutions, which are many and varied. All of this turns the process into something highly inefficient where many agents are involved: banks, business, transportation, chambers of commerce, customs departments, etc.

The article elaborates on how blockchain technology could orchestrate this process, simplify it, reduce its cost, improve traceability and security, etc. In addition, the author goes over how a thorough operational prototype on Nxt’s blockchain was carried out to demonstrate that even today, it’s possible to address this complex issue, thus satisfying all of the agents involved.

This prototype runs on Nxt because:

  • the energy-saving level achieved with the proof of stake mechanism

  • the functionality and security given by smart contracts

  • the coding language, Java, on which it is easy to train developers

  • Security in the code of Nxt, thus ensuring the future implementation of private blockchains without any vulnerabilities

  • the support offered to developers via the help desk set up by the Nxt Foundation

Nxt news – September 2016 (II): Ignis is the future

NXT NxtCoin 2. generation cryptocurrency news

September 2016 (II)

Here there is the latest compilation of Nxt news that have came up this past week:

Here below are more details about each of these:

  • IGNIS, the next child chain

Finally, after a process coordinated by wolffang that has been going on for several weeks where nxters could vote on the name of the first Ardor child chain, the community has chosen the name IGNIS!

IGNIS will be created in the genesis block for Ardor. They will be credited to each account immediately in block #1 of Ardor in a ratio of 1NXT = 0.5IGNIS, according to the balance in each account at the moment of the snapshot.

Ignis will have all the features that the Nxt platform has today, except the ability to forge, which will be taken care of by Ardor. Nxt 1.0 won’t disappear, however. It will continue to operate together with Ardor and Ignis. Thus, you won’t really be getting rid of your NXT in order to get the new tokens. For more detailed information about this, you can visit the following link.

Moreover, Ignis already has an official twitter account. Become a follower so that you don’t lose any news about the upcoming Ardor child chain!

  • ARDR is a bit closer

Step-by-step we are reaching the ending of the hourly snapshot period in order to determine how much ARDR assets you will receive according to your Nxt balance during this period. With ARDR, you will be entitled to receive Ardor tokens once the new cryptoplatform is launched, which is planned to happen during the third quarter of 2017.

The snapshot period took off on the 14th of July and will last until the 12th of October. So, time is running out, and there are less ARDR assets left to allocate. At the moment, owning NXT is the only way to get ARDR. After the asset distribution, you’ll be able to exchange ARDR on the Asset Exchange of Nxt as well as, potentially, centralized exchanges.

The user chevdor has uploaded the latest NRS in a Docker open-source container.

Docker is a tool that can package an application and its dependencies in a virtual container that can run on any Linux server. This helps enable flexibility and portability on where the application can run, whether on premises, public cloud, private cloud, bare metal, etc.

Running NRS in a Docker container could be even easier than running it “the normal way”. It’s specially useful when running Nxt on a VPS: No java required, no download, no specific configuration… Besides this, in spite of being a type of “virtual machine”, it does not decrease performance.

Mainly due to the overwhelming positive feedback from so many investors, I’ve decided to continue running LQD.  I have listed shares in blocks of 20,000 shares starting at 16NXT and going up to 32NXT.

  • Rain Project: Delivering Nxt/Ardor to BOINC users

Some days ago, the user cm, member of the Gridcoin community, presented to us the changes that will be introduced in the Rain Project, a program to support those users that use BOINC to lend their computer’s processing power to help big sized and important (both technical and social) projects, such as the ones you can see listed here.

BOINC is an open-source volunteer-oriented computing grid that combines the processing power of all individual users for the purposes of scientific research. It’s free and harnesses the unused clock cycles from processors and graphics cards to attempt to cure cancer, aids, ebola, malaria, map the milky way, crack enigma codes, etc..

The Rain Project will enable matching ‘CPID:Address/Accounts’; Once launched, the following cryptocurrencies will be supported: Gridcoin, Bitshares, STEEM, Ethereum (ETH), Ethereum Classic (ETC), NXT, Ardor, Hyperledger, Waves, Omnilayer and Counterparty.

What this means is that the users that take part in BOINC will be able to provide their Nxt address, so that other community members will be able to distribute / donate NXT automatically to their accounts proportional to their verified BOINC computation.

Nxt news – September 2016 (I): Period of reflection

NXT NxtCoin 2. generation cryptocurrency news

September 2016 (I)

September means going back to the grind for a lot of people. However, the Nxt ecosystem has kept going on even during the summer. That allows us to share with you now the fruits of that work. Here are our highlighted news for the week.

Here below are more details about each of these:

  • New version of Nxt 1.10.2

Nxt version 1.10.2 has been released. It includes several minor bug corrections and some other improvements. It should be remarked that among them is the Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) mechanism which is now enabled by default. This allows some resources from the NRS to be requested from external domains.

Another remarkable improvement is that maximum number of unsuccessful login attempts when introducing the admin password has been limited to 3, thus, adding an extra layer of protection against brute force attacks.

  • The Nxt Foundation joins Hyperledger

The Nxt Foundation is now officially an affiliate member of the Hyperledger Project!

With these words, Damelon of the Nxt Foundation announced the associate membership with Hyperledger, a collaborative project created by the Linux Foundation to advance blockchain technology by identifying and addressing important features for a cross-industry open standard for distributed ledgers that can transform the way business transactions are conducted globally. The Hyperledger Project is working to enable organizations to build and run robust industry-specific applications, platforms, and hardware systems to support individual business transactions by creating an enterprise-grade open source distributed ledger framework and code base.

Some of the most innovative companies in the world are actively engaged with this project. It is a global collaboration of the best and brightest in Finance, Banking, Internet of Things, Supply Chains, Manufacturing, and Technology. As Jim Zemlin, the Executive Director of the Linux Foundation, says, “Blockchain demands a cross-industry, open source collaboration to advance the technology for all”. No doubt that Nxt should be represented here!

  • About the future of the Tennessee Project

In just a few more days, it will be a year since the Tennessee Project started to take shape by means of a crowdfunding campaign which became the seed of the current Nxt Foundation. It’s time to reflect about how the project has developed and make assessments about the way we want it to continue while keeping in mind the financial aspects, which is always critical and must be taken seriously.

That’s the reason why Bas Wisselink and Dave Pearce, both of the Nxt Foundation, have taken a step forward and started a thread at nxtforum.org to open up a debate among nxters to hear all the voices on the efforts that have been made over the preceding months and how to address the future.

Bas Wisselink (AKA Damelon) says:

The express purpose of the TNSSE Project was to pull Nxt out of the slump that it was in at that time (a market cap of ~ 8 million and a daily volume of around 10 to 30k USD) by working to get our fundamental sites, SEO, PR and organizational basics together.

At this moment, before things become more tough, we would like to hear your opinion on our performance and how you see the future. We feel this is important and right to do.

Dave Pearce (AKA Evildave) says:

…we need to make some decisions soon about our plans for the next year, so:
Do you lot (ie the Nxt community/investors/volunteers/interested bystanders) want us to continue with a second year of the Tennessee Project?

This isn’t (yet) a discussion about fundraising, so let’s leave that to one side, and concentrate on what TNSSE has achieved so far, and could do in a second year.

Some users have started to speak up. All the nxters are invited to take part in the discussion and bring up opinions and ideas.

Liquid is having a tough time. Poloniex has decided to delist this asset from their exchange, probably because the exchange doesn’t want to have to bother to pay dividends every month to the shareholders.

Despite the excellent overall performance of the asset, LQD broke last month. After over a year of paying a considerable amount of NXT in dividends to its investors almost every month, the trading bot in which the asset uses to generate profits failed with two big trades with Monero that went really wrong last August. Due to the transparency policy of Liquid, anybody can see the trades here.

Libertynow didn’t hide, and released a statement shortly thereafter:

As most of you already know, XMR cracked my bots last month for a lot of BTC.  At first I thought it was my algorithm, but after more research later, I found a bug in the code that incorrectly implemented the algorithm.

There are two options I see right now:

1) Raise more funds and continue going
2) Liquidate with a buy wall at the liquidation NAV price and let people cash out.

Please post thoughts.

So these are the two possibilities on the table for the future of LIQUID. If you are an investor in LQD, or are planning to be one, don’t hesitate to post your opinion on the Nxtforum.

  • SCAM alert

The official Nxt Twitter account has released the following information:

A fake Twitter account has been created recently. It tries to impersonate the official Nxt Community account by spreading false information and attempts to defraud the users who follow the account. It has cloned the design and news of the original page and even includes a whole bunch of fake followers and tracks people who is following other official Nxt pages.

Private messages are sent to new comers from this fake account asking to fill surveys and offering you NXT at a discount. Of course, if you give them some money, you’ll lose it. Here is an example of a message that this scammers may send you:

The Nxt Foundation has already contacted Twitter so that they can take the appropriate action to delete that fake account. In the meantime, please be very careful and keep your eyes wide open.

Nxt news – August 2016 (II): New Beta version

NXT NxtCoin 2. generation cryptocurrency news

August 2016 (II)

Nxt doesn’t stop in August. Here’s some of the latest news about Nxt over this past week in August

Here below are more details about each of these:

  • New experimental version 1.10.0.e launched

The main novelty of this experimental version is that you don’t need to have completely downloaded the blockchain in order to start making transactions using the NRS. Whilst the blockchain download takes place in the background, the wallet connects automatically to other nodes with Open API (roaming client mode) to start making transactions immediately. Once the blockchain download is completed, the local node will become a full node, and there is no need to stay connected to other nodes while on the roaming client mode.

In addition, the NRS can be permanently configured to run in roaming client mode without even trying to ever download the blockchain. Thus becoming the de facto LITE wallet for Nxt.

  • Riker’s presentation about Nxt/Ardor

This video comes from the Bitcoin event that took place the 27th of July in Tel Aviv, Israel. Lior Yafee, one of the Nxt core developers better known in the community as Riker, gave an interesting conference about some of the key concepts in Nxt and how Ardor is the perfect solution to the usual blockchain issues that come up. It’s always a good thing to be able to listen to a main developer talking about the technology they are developing.

In this talk, Rikers starts talking about some basic concepts, a little bit of the history of Nxt, as well as:

  1. The usage of brain wallets with Nxt as an alternative to the common solutions with other cryptocurrencies.
  2. The term of forging instead of the mining used in other cryptos.
  3. The PoS concept instead of the PoW used by Bitcoin, it’s advantages, and how it solves the issues that some PoS critics pointed out in the beggining.
  4. The transparent forging feature, a system ready to be implemented when the number of transactions make it necessary.
  5. The Smart Transactions, a proven and secure way to build simple smart contracts.
  6. The future: ARDOR (Nxt 2.0) and the child chains
  7. The positive way in which the Nxt community embraces the hardforks, which is seen as necessary thing in order to introduce new functionalities. However, Riker also explains how the Nxt comunity didn’t support a hardfork some years ago, such us when the Chinese exchange BTER was hacked. The theft that wasn’t related to Nxt platform but to the negligence of the managers of that exchange. That case has some similarities to what has happen recently to Ethereum and The DAO, but the Nxt community worked it out it in a very different way and no hard fork was necessary.

  • Choosing the name for the Ardor’s first child chain.

The name of the first child chain on Ardor still hasn’t been decided. The community has launched an open process to choose the name. Nxters can pick their favourites or ask for a name to be included in the list.

It’s a wide list, so twice a week the names with fewer votes will be taken out of the contest. The goal is that the community shortens the list to a small bunch of names, and then the Nxt Foundation will make the final decision, based on technical, legal and commercial criteria.

  • Interview with Dave Pearce, from the Nxt Foundation

This summer Vincent Everts has made an interesting interview with Dave Pearce (aka evildave). They chatted primarily about the main aspects of this cryptoplatform. In the interview, they start talking about some basic concepts like the origin of this second generation cryptocurrency, the history of Nxt and it’s users, the Nxt Foundation, as well as more advanced subjects, such as:

  1. The differences between Bitcoin and Nxt: While bitcoin has the basic functions of creating tokens, moving tokens and, soon, staking tokens, with Nxt the blockchain can be used for a lot of more things. These include encrypted data transfer (messages and/or files), creation of our new tokens (assets or coins of the Monetary System), and numerous other features.
  2. Projects that can be developed on the Nxt’s blockchain, like for example:
    • Secure document management with the guarantee and security of the blockchain, or, in other words, sharing files through the blockchain with its own timestamp which allows a complete and unchangeable record of all the versions and updates among the members of a workgroup.
    • Encryption of messages, thus opening up a new infinite field of possibilities
  3. The levels of privacy in Nxt and in Bitcoin

NXT 2nd generation blockchain platform. What is it? What can you do with it? Why didn’t I know it?

  • Another great dividend distribution from Liquid

Liquid has done it again!. It’s managed to deliver 19BTC in dividends or, in other words 1.31NXT per share. How does he make it? We have a pending interview with Libertynow (the creator of Liquid) and then we’ll ask him about his key to the success of his asset

libertynow [2:17 AM 08-02-17] Currently converting 19 BTC to NXT for LQD dividends. That’ll help the price a bit, too.

  • NXTP dividend distribution

Recently, nxter.org has deliver the dividends for the months of May, June and July to the owners of the NXTP asset. We’d like to remind you that the only way to get NXTP is by buying them through the asset exchange or, even better, by becoming a collaborator. Write about what you like and you will get paid!
