Nxt News – January 2018 (III): The Person Who Says It Cannot Be Done Should Not Interrupt The Person Who Is Doing It

January (III)

Welcome again, fellow Nxters!

Last week a new infographic was released by the ANG that highlighted the Nxt Roadmap for early 2018, NXT was added to a new exchange, Jelurida released a fee structure document for all possible transaction types on the Ardor blockchain, a new version of Ardor was released, the weekly reminder is that you can customize your account ID’s – a great feature for businesses, and much more.

We know some of our readers are frustrated with the fact that their Poloniex and Bittrex accounts are still frozen. We address this with updates from bittrex-richie, Lior Yaffe, and other community members. Your patience is appreciated in these early days, Ardor is on the cutting edge of blockchain technology and as such, it can experience unforeseen delays, as early adopting exchanges have to test everything extra thoroughly (and in this case also credit their NXT holders with IGNIS).

We welcome back our old readers and warmly welcome our new ones. The cryptosphere is a large, complex, and largely mysterious place for many people and we at Nxter are changing that. We want our readers to become experts in the Nxt / Ardor / Ignis blockchain ecosystem. Take a deep breath, lean back and learn about all the news from last week.

The AE

This week’s newsletter is put together by James, apenzl, Jose, and rubenbc.

  • Infographic by ANG – Nxt Roadmap

The ANG released an infographic about Jelurida’s plans for the Nxt blockchain this year.

Their goal is to develop Nxt into the go-to resource for simple and secure ICO’s. The Blockchain Creation Kit will be highlighted as a development resource and the dev team will add new Ardor features that do not rely on the parent/child chain architecture to Nxt by Q2 .

  • NXT Added to Changenow

Last week NXT was added to Changenow. This exchange claims to be an easy alternative for people frustrated with the experience of crypto exchanges. Exchange NXT with over 10 other popular cryptocurrencies all while not registering an account. This is significant for Nxters who are looking for an exchange that does not harvest their personal data and charge unknown and mysterious amounts of fees.

  • Exchanges, exchanges …

So, we enter another week with the Ardor network up and running in perfect condition, with the launch of the AEUR Euro-pegged Ardor child chain getting closer, with businesses adopting NXT and ARDR, and… still no IGNIS and/or ARDR wallets or trading markets on Bittrex, Poloniex, UpBit, and HitBTC exchanges. No exact date has been given from them about when assets will be unfrozen and trading will be allowed.

Only a few clues indicate that the moment a lot of holders on those exchanges are waiting for is finally closing in.

From Bittrex’s Slack channel, January 12:

In a Medium post, posted on the same date, Lior Yaffe (Jelurida) writes:

Bitcoin Indonesia are operating with an IGNIS/IDR pair without problems

AEX has already enabled trading and deposits of both ARDR and IGNIS (withdrawals probably next week)

Our developers answered questions from Bittrex developers until 04:25 am tonight

We are working with two new exchanges on Nxt/Ardor/Ignis integration

The social media storm from internet trolls and nervous traders has calmed down a bit, but voices are still heard

A great post on Reddit summarises the current situation quite well and so deserves a quote as well.

Saram78 wrote:

Yes it sucks to have your money locked up on the exchange.

Bittrex has handled this poorly. However the Intel security bug and Azure outage affects the ENTIRE exchange. Surely the priority must be given to that as opposed to working on a single coin. The timing is terrible. It really is. When it rains it pours. Do you know how you can prevent this in the future? Don’t leave your coins on the exchanges! You’ve heard it a million times and finally now you can see why. The Ardor team said which exchanges would support the snapshot however they also said that the best thing to do would be to put your coins in your wallet. Keeping coins off the exchange is an important tip to becoming a max coin expert.

Poloniex: On a fork. What dumbasses. However, they did disable deposits and withdrawals for now so I can assume they are working on it. Remember that Intel bug? Yeah it was a big deal for ALL the exchanges. I also want to point out that Polo never announced any support for the snapshot and if you kept your coins on there then again, that’s on you. The safest place for your coins is in your wallet, where you control the private key. (…)

  1. Ardor is not a whitepaper. It is not just some tokens on an exchange. It is a real product.
  2. Ardor is not yet listed on a number of big exchanges.
  3. There has not yet been any marketing for Ardor. Once all the current fires have been put out then there will actually be something to market.
  4. Proof of stake is going to be big. Not everyone can afford to mine coins. Everyone can afford a Raspberry Pi.
  5. The main net just launched.

Let’s hope that this week will see the release of those people’s tokens, that held them on the above-mentioned exchanges. You can stop saying Nxt or Ardor is a scam though, it absolutely is not – these are technical issues being worked on by very talented engineers.

  • New Pair IGNIS < > BitCNY on AEX.com

AEX was the first exchange to open IGNIS < > BTC trading, and it is now the first to have added IGNIS < > BitCNY. That said – only two days after the launch of this new trading market, AEX  suspended deposit and withdrawal of ALL COINS due to optimization work on the exchange. You can still trade if you have funds on the exchange already.

They wrote, on Jan 14:

In order to continuously optimize and test the stability of the deposit and withdraw system, we will gradually open the deposit and withdraw function after the new deposit and withdraw system is launched (priority to open BTC/DOGE/LTC/ETC/ETH and so on), which takes about 3-7 days to complete.

We deeply understand that it will cause inconvenience to you in the process of renewal. So we decided to subsidize the user by holding a big incentive program after the work was done. Thank you very much! We hope that you will be more satisfied with AEX in 100 days. We have a much higher dream, hoping to become one of the Top 20 exchanges in the world when AEX is one year old.

More info: https://www.aex.com/page/news/notice/2018/0114/en_139.html

AEX is a relatively newly launched Chinese exchange, run in partnership with BTC38. On Oct 31st, 2017 the popular BTC38 exchange was, along with other Chinese crypto exchanges, forced to shut down by the Chinese Central Bank, the People’s Bank of China (PBOC), as they clammed down to stop all trade of virtual currencies against the Chinese Yuan (CNY). On Nov 1, AEX.com started its operation.

AEX supports NXT, IGNIS and ARDR trading. We look forward to the launch of the new deposit and withdraw system, AEX!

  • Infographic by ANG – How to set up an Ardor Wallet

Quick walk-through of how to download, run and log in / register a new account with the Ardor Client. Pass it around to your friends and family who are curious about how to become involved in crypto. Remember, if you had a Nxt account before the Nxt Snapshot on December 28th, 2017 then you have an Ardor wallet of the same name with the same passphrase.

  • Jelurida Specifies all Rates for Ardor

For those users who are confused as to what costs what on the Ardor blockchain, the below table from Jelurida highlights the costs of every possible transaction. The fees are standardized. Jelurida prides itself on being transparent and now all transaction types have an associated fee – some of which vary by size. To repeat, some transaction types, like sending encrypted messages, have standard fees per unit of space.

Jelurida wrote:

This document is a summary of the current Ardor blockchain transaction fees. Fees are determined by the transaction type, but also depend on parameters such as attachment sizes and phasing options, and are therefore not a simple constant for each transaction type.

The minimum fees are denominated in ARDOR. On each child chain, fees are paid in the native token, and it is up to the bundlers to decide what exchange rate to use when accepting native tokens from transaction senders and paying ARDOR to the block forgers.

All transactions that directly modify Ardor chain balances must be stored on the Ardor chain, and their fees are payable in ARDOR only, there is no bundling process involved for those.

  • Bitswift Child Chain

Many users have not yet discovered that they have some BITSWIFT tokens! The BITSWIFT Airdrop occurred at the same time as the IGNIS, but the amount airdropped was only 10% of total coins.

Nxt accounts received 1 Bitswift token per every 2500 Ignis token. Only 3.88 Million Bitswift tokens exist. BITSWIFT is tradeable on the Ardor client’s Coin Exchange, and on Bittrex, when they enable their Ardor based wallets.

Bitswift has a maintained thread on Nxtforum, make sure to follow and interact if you have Bitswift questions.

  • Romanian Meetup

The first blockchain Meetup in Romania occurred last week and it was well attended. Ardor and Nxt were introduced after an introduction to blockchain technologies. Special thanks to longtime community member, almonte, for presenting this Meetup.

Almonte wrote:

What a nice surprise to realize how many people were interested on blockchain and particularly Ardor (The photo does not have all the attendees, apologies I forgot making it earlier).

I really appreciate the effort for the ones that came for such remote places for the meetup, I take my hat off to you all. Thanks a lot for coming, it is a community that for sure will grow up a lot

We had an introduction to the blockchain tech, explained NXT, Ardor, the APIs, discussed about the future and the potential use cases for companies.

Thanks all the attendees for coming and thanks for the Hotel Crisana Arad for sponsoring the event

  • Janus – Status Update

New website! Janus team has updated their site @ janustoken.com.

Janus saw a big spike last week, as someone bought all the sell orders on stocks.exchange and made the price go boom. As the unreal price serge was picked up from CMC and speculators wondered what they missed, the Janus team commented on YouTube:

This spike was funny, but there is many things this year we are ready to deliver and have a more valid reason for value. Stay well!

Scraper sites

I will show a screenshot soon, we are close to finished anyway
cant hurt
how about later this week for that

Q: whats the business model. how you monetize scrapers?

ascendus – it will have the standard ad system on each scraper we launch and it will also have at first a credit model system that gives users incentive to create great comments to articles. So we are building an inter-site media currency for the masses around the world. Profits realized from both the ad system and this currency would be found.
Our goal this year after we roll out the first political media scraper site is to take user feedback and improve, so when we launch the other 3 sites in varying sectors of business/society, these will each improve the model over time. Our team is pushing to have 4 sites of this nature up by Q2.

Q: whats plan for mass adoption? marketing? its ardor based?

ascendus – Marketing, of course. Ardor based, Janus is.

Still waiting. bjorn_bb writes:

I will continue to push to speed things up.

  • Ardor Update – Version 2.0.12

Another new release of Ardor. Always update to the latest version of the Ardor client as soon as possible. Not only does this keep your account secure, it also prevents the risk of users ending up on a fork, like was the issue last week. The changelog for the latest version is below. The Ardor Android app also received the update, link below.

Change log:

Fixed setting the ecBlock parameter used when doing local signing for remote
nodes, light clients, and mobile clients.

Coin exchange totals are now trimmed according to the chain decimals.

Lior Yaffe wrote:

  • Weekly Reminder – Branded NXT Accounts For Your Business

Did you know you can “mine” accounts? Do you want the first four characters of your account to be something clever and unique, like ARDR or your initials? With the Secret Miner service, you can buy accounts that they mined and obtain a personalized NXT / ARDR / IGNIS account.

Remember that any NXT account passphrases open the same accounts on the Ardor platform?

Here, you have the chance to get yourself a customized account ID to use with Nxt, Ardor and on any child chain.

  • ArdorPortal.org – A Fast Javascript Blockchain Explorer for the Ardor Platform

A new JS blockchain explorer is being actively developed for the community by the longtime member, coretechs. The UI is very similar to Nxtportal.org but the backend is very different. The functionality of the site is not yet complete but you can look up blocks/accounts/transactions in the URL if you know the route structure.

coretechs: I’ve started developing a block explorer for Ardor. It has a similar look and feel to Nxtportal.org but under the hood it is a complete rewrite from the ground up. I will be adding lots of bugs and features over the next few months. https://ardorportal.org

Update: Added initial support for transactions. Features are going slow as I continue to refactor core functionality but it’s getting to a much better state. There is no search yet but you can look up blocks/accounts/transactions in the URL if you copy the route structure.

Also accounts work for both numeric and RS lookups:

  • Lior Yaffe in Medium – Ardor Launch — Update #2

Lior published a new Medium article about the latest news regarding Ardor. He addressed the ongoing difficulties with exchanges integrating the Ardor blockchain, spoke about new changes in the latest release, and highlights community projects like Ardorgate and Ardorportal.

He wrote:

I would like to personally thank the dedicated operators of these web sites who work day and night to improve them.

Then we have Ardorgate who assembled a dream team of engineers to bring the AEUR Euro peg chain online. Keep your fingers crossed.

Our business development team is now sifting through dozens of child chain requests. We are building the application process and the necessary legal framework and had several calls this week and many more in the following weeks.

  • Steemit – A Gate Between the EURO and Cryptocurrencies

Steemit had a piece showcasing the usefulness of Ardorgate – the service that will convert between AEUR tokens and Euros via users Mistertango accounts. When online, the Ardorgate service will make it very easy for people to enter and exit the cryptomarket with their fiat currency, eliminating the bottlenecks experienced by most with third-party crypto exchanges.

They wrote:

Yes you read it right, euro to crypto coins. Because on the Ardor blockchain there will be an unique service: Ardorgate.

With the Ardorgate service, users with a Mistertango account will be able to easily transfer and convert AEUR tokens into Euros in their Mistertango account. This means you can convert any of Ardor’s child chain tokens to AEUR and cash them out as EUR with Ardorgate!

The AEUR coin of the Ardorgate is pegged to the EURO, you will be able to easily deposit EURO directly via Ardorgate and trade AE tokens (Ardor’s ERC20 equivalent) globally, buy and sell Marketplace items on the blockchain, and even trade other Ardor child chain coins against the EUR-peg.

  • Insidermonkey – Blockchain Solutions For Secure Financial Transactions

They wrote an article about how Jelurida created a secure and ideal asset for the financial tech (fintech) sector. A good use case for the Ardor blockchain and also good coverage of this great product.

Jelurida’s Ardor platform will be an incredible asset for entities in the financial sector because data can be stored in a decentralized manner without the threat of blockchain bloat. This will decrease the likelihood of centralized attacks in addition to providing network security.

Furthermore, the platform architecture allows for seamless child chain interaction, giving different financial firms the ability to create their own chains without cutting off important links to other firms and databases. Because the Ardor parent chain is dedicated to maintaining security for the whole network, companies don’t have to worry about providing their own measures for their child chain(s). Additionally, child chains are freed up to transact, creating a streamlined and efficient operating procedure.

  • Theusacommerce – It’s Already 40% Higher Today. Will Ardor (ARDR) Finally Hit $2.00 Again?

As of writing, yes ARDR is back over $2.oo again. This piece is noteworthy in its inclusion because it demonstrates, in a non-speculative manner – that Ardor is a strong currency with a very bright future in the Blockchain-as-a-Service (BaaS) world.

ardor coin price

They wrote:

ARDR is a strong currency because of the technology that backs it up. This coin is the native token of a blockchain-as-a-Service (BaaS) platform. Much like the Ethereum network, the Ardor network supports new cryptocurrencies being built on the network – using the same code.

With this platform, unlike with Ethereum, the new blockchains that launch on the network are referred to as “child chains.” The big draw with child chains is that new crypto coins can be created without any coding knowledge necessary. It’s a sort of “out of the box and ready to use” approach to the BaaS concept.

Nxter News – January 2018 (II): If There Is No Struggle, There Is No Progress

January (II)

Welcome, fellow Nxters!  The last week has been frustrating for a lot of users with IGNIS and ARDR in third-party exchanges, we know the desperation many of you feel at having your assets be inaccessible or untradeable.

Jelurida works with the exchanges to try and make everything run smoothly. Ardor is a completely new blockchain concept – it is cutting edge, and it is a decentralized ledger; if users lose funds, or the exchange gets hacked, there is no way to get the tokens back and the exchange will be blamed.  Last week Poloniex opened deposits and withdrawals while being on a fork, and they are now reimbursing their users. So, patience, dear Nxters, the centralized ARDR markets will re-launch successfully, and IGNIS will be added successfully. Eventually. We do, just like you, long for an update from, for example, Bittrex.

We recommend traders to spend the waiting time to investigate the functionality of the blockchain you invested in. Ardor is a useful, disruptive, working, truly revolutionary blockchain platform, and you might realize that there is no reason to panic. Read, learn and explore the Ardor platform – use your creativity. You can log in with your account ID on ardor.nxter.org and check your balances but we do not recommend that you send your passphrase to ANY online node. Download the latest Ardor client, run it in full mode as it is fast as the blockchain was launched very recently.

Anyone who bought into the ICO or held their NXT in their own wallets (as we recommended over and over again), at the snapshot block, can enjoy using the Ignis, Bitswift and Ardor features. It seems to us that some investors have little to no idea about what they have actually invested in. Or think that Nxters control Bittrex, or (unfortunately) fall for scammers and phishing sites in their desperation to sell because they see the value of NXT dump after the airdrop of IGNIS. This is a shame. Ardor and Ignis work like a breeze. Activate your ARDR by forging, set up bundlers to earn IGNIS. Only seven items have been listed for sale on Ignis’ decentralized marketplace so far, as this is a completely new blockchain. Create a poll, shuffle your IGNIS or issue a mintable coin. On the Bitswift chain there are plenty of unclaimed aliases. Do you wonder what the AEUR chain is? Then keep reading.

  • Upgrade to Ardor v2.0.11

Jelurida released a MANDATORY UPDATE (2.0.10) and followed up with 2.0.11, which fixes the problem with forks automatically.

It is mandatory to update from version 2.0.9. Update to the newest version, 2.0.11, which fixes the problem with forks. Bugs are frustrating but inevitable with new releases, they are even on the experienced Jelurida team’s roadmap: Q1 2018 – resolve any issues discovered post-launch and ensure stability.

Jelurida wrote about Ardor v2.0.11:

Change log:

Version 2.0.11 blacklists peers older than 2.0.10, and adds a checkpoint at height 6000.

Changed Open Coin Orders to My Coin Orders in the Coin Exchange, sort orders per chain then per rate descending, added pagination.

Always make prunable messages prunable regardless of their length, if the “message is never deleted” checkbox is not checked.

Added Mistertango withdrawal UI to the AEUR child chain, not yet functional.

Increased default number of fork confirmations to 5.

Other minor bugfixes and improvements.

This release will perform a database rescan.

  • Ardorgate and the AEUR

Ardorgate’s EURO-pegged Ardor child chain (AEUR) is entering its last stage of preparation.

The AEUR coin is pegged to EUR, so you will be able to easily deposit EURO directly via Ardorgate and trade AE tokens (Ardor’s ERC20 equivalent) globally, buy and sell Marketplace items on the blockchain, and even trade other Ardor child chain coins against the EUR-peg.

martis (Ardorgate) posted this teaser in Slack:

Withdrawals to your bank account can be made directly from the Ardor client.

When the Ardorgate service becomes available, users with a Mistertango account will be able to easily transfer and convert AEUR tokens into Euros in their Mistertango account. This means you can withdraw salary earned in AEUR, AEUR you earned from selling items on the global marketplace, or you can convert any of Ardor’s child chain tokens to AEUR and cash them out as EUR with Ardorgate. If you like fiat legacy coins better than decentralized crypto, that is.

Ardorgate wrote:

From start, Ardorgate service will be limited to Mistertango customers only.

Mistertango is a licensed/regulated bank/payment provider. All services for Mistertango individual customers are free of charge, by opening account you get your own IBAN account, free MasterCard and access to their BTC exchange. You can learn more at www.mistertango.com.

Deano – can I withdraw AEUR to MisterTango in Euros, or is it just backing the AEUR value?

martis – sure you can withdraw. You’ll send me AEUR, Ardorgate will send the corresponding amount of EUR to your mistertango IBAN account. think about Ardorgate as casino cashdesk. Just service fees will be applied.

  • Coinerz – Gamified GPS App

Triffic is a new Coinerz app being developed that is looking to gamify driving, using the Ardor Platform – Triffic Miles will be the Coinerz equivalent of Air Miles. The app is just entering alpha testing phase.

They write:

Coinerz is excited to announce that their gamified GPS app is shortly entering the alpha testing phase.

“Triffic is one of the first apps that uses the blockchain for something other than cryptocurrency.” says James Malach, the Coinerz CEO. “We are using the Ardor platform and its unique child chain technology to provide a decentralised ledger of Triffic Miles – our equivalent of Air Miles.”

Triffic has been self funded for the last 18 months and we will be issuing an ICO in the next couple of months. The actual asset is fundamental to the workings of Triffic. Holders receive dividends based on a percentage of the revenue that the app makes…

There are several revenue streams.

1. Triffic Miles – earned by filling your virtual tank with Triffic Fuel. Watching a short video message will give you 30 minutes of Triffic Fuel per message.
2. Subscriptions – paid subscribers are able to earn Triffic Miles faster than free users.
3. Hotel and Taxi bookings – it’s possible to book through the app.

Also, the business is HUGELY scalable. We can launch in pretty much every country on earth – even Antarctica!

We also have @gabriel who will be helping with localization via his company Kotoba Translation. Gabriel is also an admin on ardornxt.slack – we’re trying to keep everything ‘in the Ardor family’ so to speak!

J’adore Ardor!

Elizabeth, the soon-to-be director of the ANG (Ardor and Nxt Group), conducted an excellent interview with Coinerz CEO James Malach during Ardor Days, check it out below.

  • FRAS COIN: Official UBER GRAB Partner

Last week Indonesian PT. Frasindo Lima Mandiri pre-announced their ICO! It is planned for February 1st.

Frasindo is an up and running company, authorized by the Indonesian government as an official partner of UBER, GRAB, and GOCAR in Indonesia. They also rent out cars. Their whitepaper is an intense, colorful 78 pages read.

FRAS writes in their whitepaper:

We at PT. Frasindo Lima Mandiri thinks someone has to begin the principle of trust and transparency in blockchain communities, in the hope of pioneering the first truly open & transparent company, as well as setting standards for all other new ICO and Crowdsale projects.

Each of PT. Frasindo Lima Mandiri’s brands and products are positioned and well-planned to have a FAILPROOF capability, not only giving advantages and fun, but also will generating lifetime income for its coin holders.

Each brand and product will be connecting to each other, and have short, medium, and long-term sources of income. This is very valuable and rare opportunities that are rarely opened to the public, and it’s often unreachable by majority small and medium supporters in the world.

The whole company is fully cooperating as a use case of blockchain tech, guided by the NXT Foundation to use the full extension of the proven NXT ARDOR IGNIS features.

It’s not that Frasindo can’t continue without an ICO. They can. But they have an ambitious goal and vision.

FRAS coin has not yet been approved and contracted for an Ardor child chain, but they are currently in talks with Jelurida.

  • MyNXT Wallet Closed on December 31st

Many MyNXT users discovered that their MyNXT wallet was closed. We announced it months in advance, but many missed the message. For the next month, ONLY, Vanbreuk will help users who did not transfer their NXT assets. PM Vanbreuk in Nxtforum.

Vanbreuk – During this month I will take care of requests from myNXT users who did not transfer their NXT/assets or download a backup from their myNXT wallet account, manually recovering their information from the database. They should PM me in Nxtforum or send me an email to vanbreuk at gmail dot com with their request, and I will reply with instructions. I’m solving the cases in order of arrival.

However, this cannot be sustained indefinitely since there are server costs and time involved. I understand that users did not see the email or did not visit the community for months, but I’m currently delaying important tasks to attend to these requests. If after the end of January there’s still any requests to recover accounts with a significant amount, I can discuss the case with the user, but at least I’d need to charge a fee to cover costs.

  • What is SICOS?

Are you thinking about having an ICO? Worried about the legal stuff? Understandable, you should be. Then you might want to know about SICOS. Co-founded by Travin Keith, members of ANG and SICOS helped Jelurida with their Ignis ICO. They just announced last week that they are now ready to take new clients.

SICOS wrote:

SICOS, the company that helped Jelurida with their ICO, is more than open to helping ICOs launched on Nxt or Ardor. We’re still in our early stages and Jelurida was our first client, but we are progressing nicely. SICOS is also a member of ANG.

Nxter supports all community initiatives that help and grow our ecosystem. With Travin on board their clients are not only guaranteed quality legal advice but also knowledge of the Nxt and Ardor platforms and every feature built in, such as the crowdfunding feature or the asset exchange (issue ERC20 like tokens on Ardor in minutes, with few clicks), pay dividends to approved holders or/and control who can trade them on the decentralised Ardor exchange against child chain currencies, or on centralised exchanges, when they are ready to launch the markets.

Reminder: If you run a project related to the Nxt or Ardor platform and want a mention on the Nxter site and newsletters, don’t hesitate to contact us.

  • Janus – Status Update

Janus is looking into being listed on the AEX exchange. Since they already have support for Ardor and Ignis, it should not be difficult for them to add Janus. You can buy and sell Janus using IGNIS and the BITSWIFT child chain currency on Ardor’s decentralized token exchange. You will also be able to buy and sell Janus and any other asset token (Nxt and Ardor’s ERC20 equivalent) with the EUR pegged AEUR tokens as well as any other child chain token that will be launched on the Ardor Platform in the future. This is the backbone of a new decentralized interconnected blockchain economy, welcome to the Ardor platform!

One of the Janus community has submitted/is submitting an application to AEX.com for Janus listing @qiwoman can confirm this, her husband is fluent in Chinese. We are hoping since they should have both Ardor and Ignis that it would be an easy add. In the event this actually does occur, it would not be unwise to give them some volume, we have a lot to offer new users, especially this coming year. Volume would definitely help, and C-Cex right now is basically frozen.

We are working on some last minute user side improvements for our first media scraper site launching most likely the last week of this month. I mentioned this in the past, but our new media site will be catered towards politics, and include an action based utility token model. It will be very apparent to anyone in blockchain that uses this site.

The current workload for JNSHash is this:

  1. Get town electrical approval for minimum 400 amps service up to possibly 800 amps (if they agree).
  2. Sign the new lease, paint the cement floors for dust protection, install all the outlets and racks + rigs, get internet connection and switches programmed.
  3. Load balance all rigs/racks/equipment and install cooling fans on opposing sides of the new building.
  4. Bjorn has myself, Tj, a new veteran electrician, and several family members working on this.
  5. Begin mining and keep scaling hashpower up, begin JNSHash and scale this up as well.
  6. If everything comes together this coming week we should be starting payouts by months end, our team is in a frenzy to get this going again.

Yours in business,

  • Weekly Reminder

About Ardor Forging Fees

This week some eagle-eyed Ardor users noticed that there can be a discrepancy between the sum of column fee and the Forged Fees Total. Some blocks reward not only the actual block forger but also the forgers of previous blocks.

This is done to prevent big stakeholders from predicting when it is their turn to forge and then submit their transactions in order to get back the fee or even offer other users to forge their transactions and pay them back some of the fees.

Therefore transaction fees are split over several blocks, just like with Nxt blockchain.

Lior Yaffe:

For parent chain transactions there are no back fees. For ChildChainBlock transaction each of the last 4 forgers receives 25% of the reward. We don’t want big forgers to predict when it’s their turn to forge and then submit their transactions in order to get back the fee or even offer other users to forge their transactions and pay them back some of the fees. Therefore we split the transaction fee over several blocks. It actually works this way also on NXT for several years.

  • Ardor Lite – Android App on Google Play

Ardor Lite has been released for main net. This is a basic 3rd party developed lite wallet for the Ardor blockchain with local signing of transactions, so your passphrase is never sent over the web. You can send/receive tokens on any of Ardor’s child chains and perform cross chain exchanges.

• Local signing
• Contact saving and naming on device
• View recent transactions and balance on any chain
• Barcode scanning for passphrase login
• Custom node to connect to
• Barcode generating and scanning to send/receive
• Ability to save passphrase on device protected by your fingerprint
• New account generation and automatic screenshot saving of the information

  • Complete Guide to Forging ARDR with a Raspberry Pi Computer

One of the best things about PoS chains like Nxt and Ardor are how light-weight and easy to run a node is. For those who want to run a node and forge, with a balance over 1000, this tutorial explains how to set up a full node on a simple Raspberry Pi. Knowledge of SSH and LAN are required.

Ardorer writes:

The following is a guide to help you set up an Ardor forging server. It is being written to target some of the latest Raspberry Pi single-board computers. The objective is to start with a spare/new Raspberry Pi and set up the forging server from scratch via a “headless” install. This means that you will not need to connect a keyboard & mouse or monitor to the device. But you will need to communicate with it from another computer – this will be called the “primary computer” from now on. This communication will be done via a protocol called Secure Shell or SSH. So both the primary computer and your Raspberry Pi need to be connected to the same Local Area Network (LAN). I.e. they should both be connected via Wi-Fi and/or Ethernet to the same router.

This guide is heavily inspired by the following guide for setting up a NXT forging server on a Raspberry Pi 2 – https://www.nxter.org/how-to-set-up-a-nxt-node-on-a-raspberry-pi-2/.

  • Lior Yaffe in Medium – Ardor Launch – Update #1

Ardor was successfully launched over a week ago now. As always with new releases, bugs were identified and fixed. Lior explained why Poloniex trading of ARDR went down and mentioned the dangers of not updating the Ardor client quickly enough.

Lior wrote:

Ardor has been in design for over 2 and half years and in development for at least 18 month, this is a long term strategic project for Jelurida which will surely disrupt the existing blockchain industry. We are taking our robust and stable NXT POS technology to the next level by solving the Blockchain Bloat problem and later in our roadmap also various other scalability limitations. This is not a Whitepaper this is a working product!

As expected with this type of complex blockchain projects, some bugs were identified and fixed, as a result we quickly released version 2.0.10 which is a mandatory upgrade. We urge forgers to upgrade but there is no practical way we can force them in such truly decentralized system.

Some nodes which did not upgrade on time were left on a fork including, unfortunately, the Poloniex node thus causing issues with deposits and withdrawals. This is unfortunate but it is their responsibility to update their node.

  • Benzinga – Blockchain As A Service Takes Shape

This article about the growing world of Blockchain-as-a-Service (BaaS) mentions that Ardor has a good chance of overtaking Ethereum as the go-to BaaS platform. This claim is based on the easy and simplicity that developers and businesses can implement and deploy on the Ardor blockchain, compared to the massive programming language that is Ethereum’s Solidity.

They wrote:

One such simplification lies in the bones of the system. Ardor allows development in Java, which means developers don’t need to go through the laboriously long route of learning Ethereum’s Solidity programming language before they can build BaaS apps that interact with various APIs. The fact that the underlying NXT platform has been operational since 2013 also serves to remove skepticism from the minds of interested businesses.

Another reason Ardor has decent chances of overtaking Ethereum as the go-to blockchain as a service platform is that it uses a parent-child architecture. Existing blockchain networks such as Bitcoin and Ethereum are suffering massive scaling challenges as more people use their networks. The endlessly growing sequence of blockchain blocks make it more data intensive to confirm transactions as the file size continues to grow.

In the parent-child architecture, all transactions are processed and secured by parent chain forgers. Even though the child chains are tightly integrated into the main chain, they can be pruned off to reduce blockchain bloat without damage to key data stored on the parent chain. Even Ethereum cofounder Vitalik Buterin and founder of the Bitcoin Lightning network Joseph Poon are exploring Plasma, a model that scales blockchain by building child chains on a parent chain in order to “reframe all blockchain computation”.

Features like child chains and java integration allow for the ability to issue and trade assets on an exchange, run public or private pools, set conditional transactions, setting up multistage security, and sending encrypted messages. Despite the continued volatility in the blockchain space, and all the questions still surrounding where this new framework fits into the current business and economic paradigm, Jelurida and Ardor are already bring the decentralized future into clearer relief.

  • Stocksgazette – Good Reasons To Keep An Eye On Ardor (ARDR)

More attention is given to Ardor and how it is the ideal business blockchain if you are a small to medium business. Highlights include the parent/child chain architecture and the following scalability of the Ardor blockchain platform.

They wrote:

  • It will solve the issue that users have of storing and processing large amounts of data that aren’t important on the blockchain. Ardor can achieve this by separating the tokens used for normal transactions from those allocated to provide blockchain security.
  • Ardor platform has a special parent-child chain architecture. This makes it possible for them to create their products and services utilizing child chains while also relying on the security provided by the parent chain.
  • The platform makes use of the Proof-of-Stake consensus algorithm that removes mining competition. Thus the nodes can use low energy and some economic

Its Child chain transactions can be eliminated from the blockchain the moment they are confirmed. This helps in keeping the actual blockchain lightweight and very efficient.

  • Forging vs Bundling

With brave new worlds like Ardor come brave new terms. Longtime Nxters are familiar with Forging, the approximation of mining to which the process of creating new blocks in the blockchain is undertaken. What is new, and unique to Ardor, is the concept of Bundling. Bundlers will bundle child chain transactions into Child Blocks and send them to ARDR forgers on the Ardor main chain.

Here, Jelurida explains the distinction between these two keystone concepts of the Nxt / Ardor ecosystem so as to dispel any confusion that you might have:

  • Q&A: The Ardor and Nxt Group (ANG)

So you are confused about the hierarchy of the complicated web of relationships between the Nxt Foundation and Jelurida and now the Ardor and Nxt Group (ANG). No worries, sip that pumpkin spice latte and lean back and read the following conversation between Travin and members of the community. Common questions regarding consultancy repeatedly were asked so they are presented to you below.

Travin responds to the following questions:

Hi travin what is ANG different than what Jelurida is doing now and wants to do in nearby future? Talking about consultancy, attending events, meetups with communities around the world.

Wont Jelurida hire people like community managers for example in the nearby feature thanks to ico funds?

1) ANG will not do consultancy.
2) Attending events will be primarily for Jelurida to handle. ANG allows community members to easily sign up to be on-hand assistance for Jelurida. Jelurida cannot hire regular employees all around the world just for events that only happen occasionally.
3) Meetups are commonly handled at a community-level.
4) Jelurida can hire a community manager. That’s not the job of ANG. The job of ANG is to provide a way for people to be more involved if they want to, while being rewarded appropriately, such as promoting their tech or getting additional training for free, such as with the Speakers Corner.

Can we utilize the group to perform following:

1) Weekly update on Reddit, Bitcointalk, and YouTube channel (not much updates on NXT Foundation)
2) Interview with the founders and the developer team. Let’s put their face in public, should they want to, to gain people’s confidence and trust
3) A campaign to make Ignis more known — which will drive the sales
4) Ask people what they want and maybe adopt the hot topic, such as privacy, database, dVPN, decentralized exchange, AI bot to predict market trend based on key words on social media and technical analysis on charts, etc

When I type Ardor in YouTube, hardly anything comes up. I understand the goal is to focus on developent, but shouldn’t we also focus on getting the product know to mass market? This will only further fuel the fund the team need to continue with developent.

Before I get started, Marketing is not one of the roles that ANG will provide. This will need to be done by Jelurida, though the community will be able to participate in those Marketing activities. ANG is more of an initiative for allowing community members to get more involved in an easier way. Some of its activities, however, can be counted as marketing efforts, such as the Speakers Corner. However, Marketing strategy development and its execution will not be done by ANG.

Quote 1 -Weekly update on Reddit, Bitcointalk, and YouTube channel (not much updates on NXT Foundation)

ANG is the update from the Nxt Foundation. The weekly updates on Reddit are posted by me from the Nxter Magazine weekly newsletters. Anyone can do this though. At the start, I took this role, but really anyone can do it and some others have done it in the past. These days I only do it if no one else has yet, but I don’t have much time. I do post regular updates on to Twitter though.

Quote 2) Interview with the founders and the developer team. Let’s put their face in public, should they want to, to gain people’s confidence and trust

Perhaps Nxter Magazine can do this. Jelurida has also done interviews outside of Nxter. Lior (Riker) especially. I think their faces are quite public. I met them again in Barcelona at an event and all members of Jelurida was there. Lior also presented on stage and we all had a meetup on the Friday after the event. They’re starting to get more public by attending more events as well, so it’s looking good on this end.

Quote 3) A campaign to make Ignis more known — which will drive the sales
Quote 4) Ask people what they want and maybe adopt the hot topic, such as privacy, database, dVPN, decentralized exchange, AI bot to predict market trend based on key words on social media and technical analysis on charts, etc

See first paragraph for the answer to this. Also, activities by the Nxt Foundation were never targeted to increase buying forces in the market. They were always for adoption of the technology.

Regarding #4, these things can be developed by 3rd parties. For privacy, there’s the shuffling feature and the decentralized exchange already exists. The AI bot should definitely be done by a 3rd party and not Jelurida.

When I type Ardor in YouTube, hardly anything comes up. I understand the goal is to focus on development, but shouldn’t we also focus on getting the product know to mass market? This will only further fuel the fund the team need to continue with developent.

NXTer is providing some insight, but can we also explore on additional platform?

Nxter is actually working on some videos for Ardor and Nxt. Other community members have expressed the desire to work on some other videos as well.

To clarify:
ANG is an initiative by the Nxt Foundation, not by Jelurida. It also doesn’t deal with Marketing, though some of its activities may aid Jelurida in their marketing efforts. ANG is also not involved in the Ignis ICO. All funds from the ICO will go to Jelurida. However, Jelurida may donate funds to support ANG. If they do so, it will be publicly disclosed as was when they became a Supporter of the Nxt Foundation.

  • Bitswift – Status Update

Bitswift announced that they will have to go to court to settle a trademark dispute with the “SWIFT” group. The dispute is over usage of the “Bitswift” trademark and a resolution was not found in arbitration.

Bitswiftbro wrote:

Dear Bitswift Community,

It looks like we will be defending our Trademark application on “Bitswift” in court from the opposition the banking society (SWIFT). There was a long drawn out negotiation process, we won’t bore you, here is the TLDR version: The society was willing to allow us to keep our “Bitswift” TM providing we added the limitation that “our tokens would not be used between financial institutions and their corporate customers”.

This sounds all fine and dandy at first, great actually! we never wanted financial institutions using our tokens, Bitswift tokens are to be used between people directly and between businesses directly without the need for a central person, that is the whole point. We were about to sign saying we would agree to the limitation, but then a question appeared. What if the society launches their own token? and what if it starts trading with ours? are we now considered “between them and their corporate customers”. Naturally curious, and above all wanting to make sure our requirements were covered, our lawyers wrote them back and asked this question, to which they replied basically “yes then you would be infringing”. This did not sit well with us, it would mean at any point in the future and when the opposition launched any token of their own, connected to blockchain ecosystems, that our Bitswift tokens could now be considered between them and their corporate customers and as such we would be infringing. Agreeing to this would mean that we would have to ensure that our tokens were only ever exchanged between a certain subset of users, which would defeat their whole purpose of free exchange between anyone, anywhere, anytime and without the need for a central dictator.

To that end we could not settle on an agreement that worked for us. We will not be agreeing to modify our TM in such a way that would undermine their usefulness or impact us negatively in the future. We will seek a Bitswift TM and use case WITHOUT limitations as clearly we are Bitswift not some banking society, and clearly we are not doing anything inter banking whatsoever. No one calling our companies is looking for anything to do with banks or financial institutions and our ™ on “Digital tokens” has nothing to do with inter-banking or societies related to them. To our knowledge we have had a public and usable blockchian token products before any financial institutions were even considering the legitimacy of blockchain based markets.

What happens now? On our side, nothing. We will continue on our mission to develop the Bitswift ecosystem. Our companies will fund the expenses related to preserving the Bitswift brand so that they may continue to operate well into the future, enriching lives through technology as intended.

Everything for a reason and everything with time.

That means anyone, anywhere, will be able to utilize blockchain services with relative ease.

  • TradingView – Ardor – Last Stand

The correction came down to the 88% fib. Retracement level and is no moving inside a triangle, currently sitting at the support line. The daily chart shows an oversold RSI heading upwards and a slightly dropping MACD indicator. The volume decreased, which might be a sign for tired bears. The 4h chart shows that the market closed below the Bollinger Bands, even the last dip closed below it. MACD is showing bearish downwards, RSI is oversold. The big question is if the support holds and the bulls are coming back to push the market. A good signal would be a closing inside the Bollinger Bands and crossing MACD. If the support breaks, next support is around 3000 and then 2700. If we are staying above the trendline, the retest of the downtrend channel is likely at around 3400.

  • Introducing The Ardor and Nxt Group (ANG)

This week the Nxt Foundation announced the launch of the Ardor and Nxt Foundation (ANG) with the mission statement of

“To provide the users, project owners, and businesses around the Nxt and Ardor ecosystem with a better environment to collaborate, communicate, and utilize Nxt and Ardor blockchain technology and be more active while maximizing the benefits gained by the community.”

The Nxt Foundation was originally created to be a point-of-contact for businesses interested in using the technology, which Jelurida will now become as they themselves are the developers. However, the Nxt Foundation has expanded its role in the past few years, including but not limited to, providing and supporting community tools, such as Nxtforum, the Nxt and Ardor subreddits, and multiple others, in addition to helping users directly as well as working on expanding the community itself.

Travin Keith writes:

With the decline in the role of speaking with interested parties on behalf of Jelurida, we believe that the shift to focusing on the community is a natural progression. To reflect these recent changes, the Nxt Foundation launched the ANG, which will be an initiative to provide the community with a better environment, such as organizing meetups around the world, as well as to provide a better ecosystem for the projects that use Nxt and Ardor blockchain technology.

We @ Nxter.org welcome the initiative and look forward to working with the ANG.

With the announcement that the Ardor mainnet will launch on Jan. 1, the JLRDA tokens will instantly revert to IGNIS tokens at this moment and will be freely fungible. Also, users holding NXT at the time of the Nxt blockchain snapshot will get 0,5 IGNIS per 1 NXT they hold in their account. The Snapshot will be taken on the 25th December 2017.

  • 3rd-Party MyNXT.info Wallet will Shutdown by the End of 2017

MyNxt wallet users, be prepared to migrate your account or move your tokens. MyNxt announced last week the closure of their web wallet because of no clear path to monetization and massive usage of the Nxt light client feature and the Jelurida public node. Users have until the end of 2017 to export their passphrase or their holdings. Accounts will function normally until the end of November 2017.

In their words:

Due to the wide usage of the Nxt light client feature and the Jelurida public node, the lack of manpower for development and support, and no clear path to profitability, MyNxt is closing new user registrations and will phase out the MyNxt web wallet feature by the end of 2017.

New users can download the Nxt Client or use the Jelurida public Nxt node instead.

Existing users will be able to operate the MyNxt wallet normally until the end of November and will be able to export their Nxt accounts until the end of 2017. For instructions about how to continue using your Nxt accounts outside of the MyNxt wallet, check our FAQ page: https://wallet.mynxt.info/faq.php

Thank you all for your support! We hope to continue to see you as both Nxt and Ardor move forward!

  • Janus – Status Update

An update from our friends Janus on their new JNSHash Mining project. According to current projections, they will have a more than decent farm up and running by November! Good job guys, we are excited to see this project and we raise our warm beverages to you!

Bjorn wrote:

We will be constructing the last Nvidia rig we can squeeze in before BTC gold, this is of course a highly speculative coin, I personally feel it’s unlikely to be unprofitable but it could go either way, high risk/reward as all crypto usually is.

One thing I should mention, although the past isnt a perfect indicator, often a large BTC dominance eventually pours back into altcoins it may seem rough at first but this could also translate into a second 12 month mining boom cycle.

If this occurs then JNSHash could perform very unexpectedly well.

As our team is also in this good times and bad, let’s cross our fingers we make the right choices in terms of highest output and I maybe get to keep some of my hair in the process some speculative coins could go high, it’s not impossible, if not we can remain steady on the tried and true ones either way.

Ok that is all, again enjoy your time with your families, stay well.

  • SuperNet Asset Migration From Nxt AE

Last week SuperNet announced they will be migrating from the Nxt AE to Komodo. The asset transfer swaps will be open until March 1st 2018. The Nxt community originally supported c-developer jl777 and SuperNET with 5% of the entire NXT marketcap.

Vanbreuk wrote:

jl777 has published today this update and asked me to manage the communication with the Nxt community.

I will take care of the user support in the Nxt side, so for any doubts about how to send the assets please ask in this topic. However, here’s the available information in clear bullet points:

How to send your assets for migration?

Send your assets to NXT-MRBN-8DFH-PFMK-A4DBM, the official SuperNET account in Nxt, adding to the asset transfer a permanent message (make sure you check the “Message is Never Deleted” option under the message box in the Nxt Client) with the destination Komodo address where you want your tokens to be delivered when the swaps are processed. To obtain a Komodo address if you don’t have one, check the Komodoplatform website for upcoming new download links for the Agama wallet. Advanced users can try the Komodod client repository.

IMPORTANT: If you have any doubts or support requests for the Agama wallet or Komodo in general, please go to the SuperNET Slack and ask in the #agama or #komodo channels. This NxtForum topic is ONLY to provide user support for sending the Nxt assets to swap correctly.

The transfer of the new tokens to Komodo addresses will start to be processed by jl777 in December, and the swap process will be open until March 1st, 2018. For other announcement details, please check the quote in the top of this post. If you have any doubts, please ask and I will contact jl777 if necessary.

  • Lior Yaffe in Medium – Ardor Full Node on Android

Hallelujah, an Android full node has been tested successfully for Ardor. With Android 8 (Oreo) you can run a full Nxt or Ardor node on any device that runs Android, which will be most of our electronics and appliances, and maybe even our future robot overlords. Either way, this is great news for the entire ecosystem.

Lior wrote:

Now with Android Studio 3.0 getting closer to a stable release with full Java 8 support, the Jelurida developers decided to give it a try and it works quite well. Naturally there are some limitations, the main one being that your device has to Support Android 8 (Oreo) which is currently only supported by few brand new devices. Also the JavaFX desktop wallet is not supported on Android but this is not a major concern since we can merge the existing Apache Cordova wallet app with the full node to provide a visual wallet.

Being able to run a full blockchain node on Android may not seem like high priority at the moment, but in few years when Android is integrated into virtually every device, and data connection is nearly unlimited, every car, TV and refrigerator will be able to run Ardor and NXT full nodes and you’ll be able to always carry your full node with you in your pocket.

Then “Lior Yaffe a Java programmer without business experience raised already 7-8 million euro during the ICO of the Ignis coin, and its not over yet. ‘Anyone who is telling some nonsense story on blockchain raises 100’s millions dollars. We have real technology’ he says.”

Nxt news – January 2017 (IV): The Ability to Materialize Ideas is the Secret of Success

NXT NxtCoin 2. generation cryptocurrency news
January 2017 (IV)

Here are some of the latest news about Nxt over this past week in January:

Below, are more details about these news pieces:

  • MyNXT.info Wallet – How to View and Transfer Assets

It’s become common that some users of the MyNXT.info online wallet, the popular service brought to you by some members of the Nxt community (a service which isn’t a part of the official Nxt Reference Software), ask some questions to the Nxt community about how they can check their asset balance, more specially, their ARDR balance as this option is disabled by default.

In October last year, CryptKeeper shared a small step-by-step guide that shows you how to install the free plugin which is necessary in order to view and transfer your Nxt assets on this web wallet.

CryptKeeper explains:

A short description for installing the Asset Plugin on wallet.mynxt.info to see your Ardor

  1. Log into your account at wallet.mynxt.info
  2. On the left there is the dashboard with a “+ Plugins” button, click on it:
  3. Chose the basic asset plugin:
  4. Confirm the disclaimer and your plugin will be installed
  5. Back at the dashboard, click on the plugin button:
  6. You will see your Ardor balance under “My Assets” and you can send them out by clicking on the asset name and choosing the second tab “Transfer”!

VanBreuk reminds us:

The Asset plugins in MyNxt do not have currently the option to attach a message to an asset transfer, as required by Bittrex. This is as far as I’ve seen an unusual requirement for an exchange deposit, but I have reported this to the MyNxt website developer so this modification can be added to development list.

  • BTC38 – ARDR/BTC Added to the Exchange

With this brief statement, BTC38, the popular exchange based in China, and one of the most utilized to trade NXT, announced that ARDR was included into its platform, thus allowing users to exchange it for BTC and vice-versa:

In just a short amount of time, the exchange climbed up to the third position by volume among all the exchanges that allow you to trade ARDR. We should also point out that on BTC38, the NXT/CNY pair is also the 4th-most traded cryptocurrency on the platform. Also ARDR/BTC has become, in record time, the 9th-most traded token there. A brilliant start.

With BTC38, there are now six exchanges (plus Nxt’s Asset Exchange) that let you trade the ARDR asset.

  • Nxt – Monitoring the Activity of Accounts

Some Nxt users with programming abilities have shown some interest on how use the Account Monitor feature, by means of the fully-featured API that the Nxt platform has. Some well-known developers of the Nxt community have come up with some solutions to this end, including websioux or ScripterRon, Nxt Core Developer:

Websioux says:

If you have that many to check or more, yes, you’d better check the transactions when they appear on your node. But remember blockchain reorgs do occur and in that case you should detect it, and check if it has a consequence for your treatment or not. Otherwise, it’s probably not going to take that much to check the transactions of 1000 address, I’d bet for something between 1 and 10 sec.

ScripterRon says:

One possibility is to use the EventWait API.  You can be notified when blocks are pushed and popped.  For a rollback, you will get a block popped event for the old block followed by a block pushed event for the new block.

Additionally, “regular” users can also benefit from this through a service that some third parties are offering. With this, you will receive an email every time something happens in the account you are monitoring, as we mentioned in our November newsletter:

  • Nxt AlertsThis is an utility inside the MyNxt portal which sends you an email everytime
    • a block is generated
    • your chosen account sends/receives some coins

If you are a developer who is having some trouble using the Nxt API, you can ask for some help at Nxtforum or in the #developers or #helpdesk channels at Nxtchat on Slack.

  • Ardor – New Features and How it Compares with Nxt

Jean-Luc, Nxt and Ardor core developer, announced the inclusion of two new features to the future Ardor platform in addition to Coin Exchange, a feature that will let you trade one child chain token for another child chain token, or for ARDR. The latest features included are:

A017. 2015-07-28. Allow AE issuer use Asset to make dividends payment in another Asset.
A006. 2015-06-16. Allow AE issuer use MS to dividends payment.

Those two are already implemented in Ardor

Jean-Luc has also published a chart on nxtforum.org that compares the major differences in the functionalities between Nxt and Ardor:

Single chain One parent chain with multiple child chains

Transaction tokens

The same token (NXT) is used for establishing the consensus and providing the security of the blockchain, as well as for the basic unit of value in all transactions Only the parent chain token (ARDR) is used in the proof-of-stake consensus, and thus provides security for all child chains. Child chain tokens are used as transactional units of value only.

Transaction fees

Transaction fees are paid in NXT only, requiring users to always have NXT in their accounts. On each chain transaction fees are paid in the native token (coin) of that chain. End users do not need to own ARDR tokens.

Asset Exchange, Monetary System, Aliases, Messaging, Digital Goods Store, Voting System, Shuffling, Data Cloud, Phasing, Account Control, Account Properties All these features are preserved in Ardor, and are available on each child chain. A child chain can optionally be restricted not to enable some features. The parent chain supports a limited subset of features, as it is intended to be used for consensus establishing only and not for everyday transactions.

Each passphrase maps to a single account. Passphrases can’t be changed, and there is no wallet file to store. The same mapping of passphrases to account numbers is used as in Nxt. Accounts are global across all child chains, and an account can have balances in each of the existing child chain coins, as well as in ARDR.

There is a single coin (NXT), and unlimited user-issued Assets and Monetary System currencies. Each chain has its own coin. Assets and MS currencies can be issued on any child chain, and are available for trading globally. Assets or MS currencies can optionally be restricted* to some child chains only.

Assets and MS currencies can be traded for NXT only. Assets and MS currencies can be traded on any child chain, with price denominated in the corresponding child chain coin.

Coin Exchange

N/A A new feature, Coin Exchange, allows trading of child chain coins to each other, and also to the parent chain coin (ARDR).

Asset dividends can be paid in NXT only. Asset dividends can be paid in any of the child chain coins, by simply issuing the payment transaction on the corresponding chain. Additionally, paying dividends in another Asset or in MS currency has been implemented.

Crowdfunding feature is available in the Monetary System, but the funds must be collected in NXT only. Crowdfunding feature is available on all child chains, and on each child chain the funds are collected in the corresponding child chain coin.

Shuffling of NXT, Assets, and MS currencies is available. On each child chain, shuffling of the corresponding coin, or any Asset or MS Currency, is supported.

Alias names are globally unique. Alias names are unique within each child chain only.

MS Currencies

Currency codes and names are globally unique. Currency codes and names are unique within a child chain only.

Pruning is available for plain and encrypted messages, and for tagged data (data cloud feature). Pruned data are retrieved automatically on demand from designated archival nodes. Pruning and retrieving of all prunable data is available as in Nxt. In addition, the child chain transactions themselves are designed to be prunable and will not need to be stored permanently or re-downloaded by every new node. The actual pruning of transactions will be implemented later.*

Transaction identifiers

Transaction IDs are 64-bit longs, and are globally unique. The 64-bit transaction IDs are no longer guaranteed to be globally unique for child chains. 256-bit transaction hashes (sha256 digests) are used instead as transaction identifiers.

Block generation

A “forging” process is used to create new blocks, with the probability of block creation dependent on the account NXT balance (stake). The same forging algorithm is used as in Nxt, dependent on ARDR account balances only.

N/A A new process, “bundling”, is used to group child chain transactions into a parent chain transaction (“child chain block”), which is then included in the parent chain. Any account can play the role of a bundler. The bundling process also performs the exchange of fees paid by users in child chain tokens into ARDR fees accepted by the block forgers.

Transaction execution can be made conditional, subject to approval using various voting models. Same voting models as in Nxt, but phasing is possible on child chains only. Approval transactions can be on a different child chain from the phased transaction, and the by-transaction voting model also supports linking to a transaction hash on a different child chain.

Account control

Accounts can be restricted to use phasing only (mandatory approval). Same as in Nxt, but accounts under phasing-only restriction cannot submit transactions on the parent chain, as those cannot be phased.

Peer networking

HTTP based, also with WebSocket support, transmitting JSON formatted data between peers. Completely re-written and optimized, using native Java sockets and binary messages between peers. Block and transaction propagation has been significantly improved, by exchanging and caching information about currently available blocks and transactions between peers and only propagating the missing data pieces.

HTTP query APIs, returning JSON formatted response. Mostly unchanged, except:
1. A “chain” parameter has been added to each API that is child chain specific.
2. 64-bit long transaction IDs have been replaced with 256-bit hashes.
3. All prices and rates that were previously defined relative to the smallest indivisible holding amount (“QNT”) are now defined relative to a unit of the holding (share).

Transactions are stored in the blockchain permanently, and need to be re-downloaded and re-processed by every new node, which after months and years of operation becomes a significant bottleneck. All child chain transactions will be possible to prune completely, without affecting blockchain security, thus allowing the blockchain size to be kept much smaller. A new node joining the network only needs to download the parent chain transactions, followed by the latest snapshot of the current system state.*

* Functionallity marked with asterisk is planned to be implemented in a future Ardor release. All other functionallity is already implemented and currently being tested on a testnet blockchain.

  • Ardor – Testnet Countdown

Riker, Nxt and Ardor core developer, published a list of all the remaining tasks that have to be completed before the Ardor Testnet goes live. There isn’t an exact date when the the launch of the testnet will take place yet, but it will happen in this first quarter of 2017. It’s important to note that after some previous leaked images, the market capitalization of Nxt and Ardor went up, which shows how many people are keeping and eye on these projects. Obviously, there is a lot to be expected.

Lior says:

Getting closer to the Ardor testnet release but still some way to go.The server code is nearly complete and the APIs are mostly stable… Most of the work will now focus on getting the client UI ready for release

Here is a list of remaining tasks which we would like to complete before the official release:
– More work on the Coin Exchange page and tables
– Prefix each MS currency name with the name of the chain to which it belongs – partially implemented
– Ability to link from a child chain transaction to the ChildChainBlock transaction in which it was bundled – done
– Improve the entity properties modal to support entities like orders and offers – done
– Format amounts and links in the entity properties modal
– Test and fix currency reserve/claim tables and modals
– Remove child chain specific widgets from the Ardor UI
– Reomve Ardor specific widgets from the child chain UI
– UI for the new “by holding” dividend modal
– UI for the “by holding” dividend history

  • The Percept – Nxt is the New Generation of Bitcoin

Irem Sokullu, of The Percept platform, conducted an interview with Bas Wisselink and Dave Pearce, both members of the Nxt Foundation. Bas and Dave answered questions concerning basic concepts of the blockchain, its philosophy, new possibilitie, advantages of decentralization, and the key differences between PoW (Bitcoin) and PoS (Nxt), among other questions.

Here is a snippet of some of the questions that you can find in the full article:

Irem (interviewer): Bitcoin is using Proof of Work and NXT uses the Proof of Stake. Please tell me more about the difference. .

Bas: PoW can be characterized as a contest. The strongest computer assaults the cryptographical puzzle fastest. So, the more powerful equipment you have, the more Bitcoin you will mine. That leads to a large hardware race and a lot of power consumption. Proof of Stake is more like a lottery in which each coin in the system can be seen as a ticket to the lottery. The more ticket you have, the more chance you get to generate a new block. You don’t spend hardware and power on that lottery. It is an energy efficient system.

Dave: Participants put their stakes into the system, software choices in a semi-randomized way who gets the reward next. NXT has 1 billion tokens. That is the way Proof of Stake works to ensure the trust in the system.

The Percept also recorded a video interview with Bas:

SAE pulls the plug – what are the alternatives?

The Secure Asset Exchange (SAE) website has been a rabbit hole to the Nxt Asset Exchange for many people, as a secure web client which allowed you to trade on AE without downloading the full NRS Client. SAE has now decided to close its services.

If you are using SAE, you will now have to choose a different approach to AE trading.

SAE writes:

Due to recent increases in maintenance costs and the limited resources/time of any startup that needs to prioritize its initiatives, Secure Asset Exchange will no longer be available as of January 21st, 2016 (NXT block 621,000); please plan accordingly.

We are deeply grateful to all of our users and supporters up to this point and look forward to focusing our energy on making the next generation of great blockchain-based applications, which our now global society can truly benefit from.

Your ability to use your NXT or any of your assets will not be affected by our availability because your account and all of its assets can be accessed through the official NXT client.

To access your account using the password created on trade.secureae.com, simply combine your username with your secret phrase, with no spaces between the two; this will create the password to your NXT account for the official client.

For example, if your username is “joe” and your secret phrase is “joe likes coffee” then your account’s password for the official NXT client will be “joejoe likes coffee”. Please make sure to take capitalization and spacing into account, they do matter.

If you have any questions, contact SAE at support@secureae.com.

Here are a couple of alternatives to the Secure Asset Exchange service you can use after 21.01.2016:

NRS Client

The official Nxt Reference Software Client is your safest and most obvious partner through this – if you feel ready to download the Nxt blockchain. NRS has ALL the latest Nxt features, it is updated (and uploaded) by the Nxt Core developers themselves, it runs locally on your computer and it supports forging – turning your pc into a Nxt node which supports the Nxt network and earns you forging fees. Running the NRS is highly recommended.

Is it difficult?

You don’t have to be a geek or an old timer to do this.
Just follow these instructions: http://test.nxter.org/nxt-nrs-installation-guide/

IF you’re not into forging or downloading a blockchain, the NRS is available as a light client too: http://test.nxter.org/nxtlite-client-get-started-with-nxt/

MyNxt Wallet

The MyNxt web wallet is a client-side trustless wallet, which is very similar to the leading Bitcoin online wallet Blockchain.info. The main objective is to make it dead-easy for new users to join Nxt without requiring downloads, java installs, or waiting for the download of the Nxt blockchain.

MyNxt.info was founded by long time Nxt supporter abuelau, but is now run by Tosch and officially owned by SuperNET. Registering a wallet is simple, go to https://wallet.mynxt.info.

MyNxt runs perfectly on iPhones, Android or desktop browsers.

The MyNxt plugin system offers a gateway to the Nxt Asset Exchange.

SuperNET Lite Wallet

Accessing NRS online is easy. Check out http://mynxtportal.info/ui/supernet.html.

This is the web SuperNET multiwallet, if you want to access Nxt NRS through this, just sign in using your NXT account number or passphrase, hit the “burger” in the upper right corner and choose “Advanced” from the menu.

Doing this will bring you to an online version of the NRS.

Read more about the user interface of the NRS here:

NXTER.ORG would like to thank the team behind SAE for maintaining a great service, which has helped so many ‘non-techie’ people become ‘Nxters’. May you rest in peace – and your legacy rise like a Phoenix.

SuperNET to take over MyNxt hosting and development

MyNxt.info is a long time and widely appreciated Nxt service site, which offers an online- and mobile- wallet, Nxt wallet plugin system, blockchain explorers, account alert service and much more. MyNxt.info has been run by abuelau, but was recently passed on to SuperNET. This brings new development, such as a general overhaul of services, updating them to the run on the latest NRS, and also integrating SuperNET developments such as the Multigateway and InstantDEX as wallet plugins. Tosch and VanBreuk will be the ones operating and developing the site on behalf of SuperNET.

VanBreuk writes:

We aim to do more than keeping a good service working: we want to make MyNxt an essential tool for everyone in the Nxt community, and other crypto communities active in SuperNET and beyond.

For this, we want to invite everyone to bring on their feedback about suggestions and improvements for MyNxt.

Since MyNxt now works under the SuperNET infrastructure, there will be new life for MyNxt in the Asset Exchange (asset ID 2176003302076381931).

This is the first news release for the NxtForum community:

From November, SuperNET will manage the MyNxt project, including the Block Explorer, Online Wallet and NxtAd service.

1 November 2015

SuperNET is to take over Nxt wallet and block explorer initiative, MyNxt.info, with immediate effect. The servers have already been migrated into the SuperNET infrastructure, and the lead development and operation are now in hands of Tosch and VanBreuk. Both have been involved in the Nxt community since its early days: Tosch as developer of php/js/python applications and VanBreuk as forum administrator and technician for several projects, including the Nxt Wiki and the Multigateway.

Block Explorer

One of the greatest advantages of cryptocurrencies is that, while being available to anyone and offering a strong level of anonymity when used correctly, the blockchain remains fully transparent. Besides offering its Online Wallet and other tools, MyNxt provides a powerful overview of blockchain transactions on the Nxt network, and will do the same for other cryptocurrency networks in the future.

The MyNxt Block Explorer has been the most stable and reliable Transaction Explorer in the Nxt ecosystem for over a year. You can access it at https://www.mynxt.info/blockexplorer/

Nxt Wallet

MyNxt already does an outstanding job of bringing blockchain technology to new users. It offers a simple, secure and open-source Online Wallet. Registering requires only an email address and a password. The MyNxt Online Wallet makes accessing Nxt easy, and allows for a gradual learning curve for anyone who wants to start using cryptocurrencies. The wallet is available at https://wallet.mynxt.info/

One of the most important features developed in the last year has been MyNxt’s plug-ins system, a straightforward way for users to activate additional tools in their online wallet. This plug-in architecture has huge potential but has not received yet the attention it deserves. This is why the new development plans for the service have a strong focus on MyNxt wallet plug-ins. SuperNET developments like the Multigateway, InstantDEX or Pangea Poker will be available as plug-ins.

Development roadmap

With the shift to SuperNET hosting and management, a new development roadmap has been created:

2015 November – December

  • Bring the Nxt Block Explorer more up-to-date with current Nxt developments. These include transparent forging, increased meta-data for the Asset Exchange, and explorer tools for the Monetary System, the Marketplace and the Alias system.
  • Promote coins community discussion to gather feedback for further improvement of the Block Explorer, and for continued development of MyNxt Tools such as the Charts, the Forging Calculator, NxtAd or the Alerter service.

2015 December – 2016 1st Quarter

  • Add powerful and reliable Blockchain Explorers for other active coins in the SuperNET community. First on the list is currently BitcoinDark.
  • Improve the MyNxt API to give developers easier access to a broad range of functionality.

2016 1st Quarter – 2nd Quarter

  • Include SuperNET features as plug-ins for the MyNxt Wallet.
  • Create new plug-ins with other interesting tools that Nxt or SuperNET have to offer.
  • Connect the Block Explorers to the MyNxt Wallet, providing full integration between both for the MyNxt users. This will allow greater functionality such as buying assets or sending encrypted messages from the Block Explorer pages.

During this time, MyNxt will work to provide an easy accessible system for developers. You can learn more at https://www.mynxt.info/apidocs/

MyNxt wants to give developers good reasons to use the API, welcoming contributions and creating together the best documentation for both newcomers to the cryptocurrency world and advanced developers.
