Nxter News – May 2018 (I): He Who Has Overcome His Fears Will Truly Be Free

May (I)

Welcome, dear Nxters and other followers!

What are you afraid of when it comes to mastering Ardor? Unlike Ethereum’s Sharding which forever seems to be “right around the corner,” we have Ardor and Nxt. They are right here right now and they are working. To many, a blockchain is a scary thing, an abstract concept that is hard to connect to. This is patently absurd – you can overcome your fear of mastering Ardor by exploring it – we invite you to challenge yourself and spend an hour in the Ardor client, testnet or mainnet. We have written, ad nauseum, about the many great features of Ardor: the Coin Exchange, the Monetary System, Data Cloud, the Voting System, the ability to add conditions to transactions, aliases, all of it. But it is nothing more than words unless you experience it – dabble with it. Make it your own! Wonderful functionality exists that is immediately usable for most anyone and this is still just the beginning of what is to come.

Now it is May and soon it will be June and then it will be summer, and yet unless you act now and learn the joys of using Ardor, you will be filled with regret of not taking a small amount of time to appreciate just how powerful a tool we have at our fingertips right now. There is no time like the present and the “here and the now.” Go on, we will wait – plan an hour of your time that you can invest in Ardor.

Last week, as always, was eventful in the crypto space. Multiple third-party apps have releases on the Google Play store, the Ardor Bootcamp Udemy course received minor updates, Jelurida released more great videos of Lior extolling the virtues of Ardor, the underappreciated Ardor.World website received minor updates, news about upcoming Ardor and Ignis assets, and much more.

We welcome back our old readers and warmly welcome our new ones. We want our readers to stay up-to-date with the blockchain evolution and we also want our readers to keep themselves and, their data, as safe as possible. Become experts in the Nxt / Ardor / Ignis blockchain ecosystem. So lean back and learn about all of last week’s progress.

Roadmap Coming

An updated technical roadmap from Jelurida is coming. Nothing new has been published since the ICO documentation from last year.

From Jelurida’s official website we have:

  • Q1 2018
    • Ensuring Ardor is running stable in production, resolving any issues discovered post-launch
    • Interviewing, hiring, and training new developers, quality assurance, and support team
  • Q2 2018
    • Pruning of child chain transactions and sharing of snapshot data between nodes on testnet
    • Additional child chains launched on mainnet
  • Q3 2018
    • Pruning and snapshotting implemented on mainnet
    • Support for child chain specific transaction types

However, in the IGNIS ICO whitepaper, from page 36, “Roadmap of the Utilization of the Money,”Jelurida proposes a more detailed growth plan depending on the total contribution which Jelurida receives from the ICO. As most know, this ended up being over $15M (excluding unsold tokens), which should result in a number of mindblowing additions to both Nxt, Ignis and Ardor’s roadmaps.

Lior:

We are still working on the technical roadmap update, I expect Jelurida to publish it by May 10th – not final. We have a meeting later this week to finalize our plans, the update of the roadmap depends on the outcome of this meeting. I wanted to update you since I promised [an] update by the end of April.

Video – Ardor’s Answer to Smart Contracts: Lightweight Contracts — Norway Hackathon Series

A recording of Lior Yaffe’s introduction to Lightweight Contracts at a hackathon in Kristiansand, Norway. The new and revolutionary concept of Lightweight Contracts is introduced in the following five-minute video.

Excerpt from the video:

One of the exciting features of the Ardor roadmap is the Lightweight Smart Contracts, allowing Blockchain application developers to create add-ons that enable the automation of tasks and implementation of business logic. Their intelligent design does not require invocation by every node on the network, while still achieving security and preventing misuse of the functionality by bad actors. In turn, this provides a much more efficient system, which is more secure, and bug free than smart contracts which must be invoked by every node on the network.

Video – If I am a Business Owner, do I need to code my own Blockchain from Scratch?

A common question from business owners is how can they implement a blockchain if they do not know how to code one. Lior answers.

Excerpt from the video:

Where Ardor differs from other Blockchain platforms, is that it has pre-packaged features and application abilities right out of the box. There is no need to learn and code from scratch a Smart Contract application, for example. Ardor has many features, such as voting, asset exchanges, monetary systems, private messaging, and more, built in, and ready to use. In addition to that, you can relax about significant security flaws or other risks that would need to be considered if you were building your application from scratch.

  • @IGNISguide

User and community member “farl”, actively contributing Nxter since forever, handed over his @IGNISguide twitter profile to Jelurida last week.

He tweeted:

https://twitter.com/IGNISguide/status/991611103712022528

A respectful “thank you” goes out to Farl for all his great work for our platforms over the years, topped up by this magnificently unselfish gesture. Truly a class act. Keep the ball rolling, friend. We would also like to thank Jelurida for this appreciation in their first tweet from the Ignis account:

  • Ardor Bootcamp

The creator of the Udemy online course for Ardor: Ardor Bootcamp – updated the community on minor changes to his course. Nxter took the course and reviewed it. This course is worth your time and can teach most anyone something about using Ardor, even if you know it well. We highly recommend this course to anyone – it is a bargain at its price and it will only continue to get better as more content is added!

Quick update on #ardorbootcamp:
– updated title to “ardor blockchain bootcamp” per @chesslover suggestion. Will trial various names. May periodically add in child chain names when they pump to take advantage of increased searches
To do:
– update Jelurida pronunciation
– update forging video with actual example
– add video on forging pools

Keep the suggestions coming! It’s getting 1-2 new subscribers per day = widening exposure in addition to more people actually learning how to use it and create real world utility!

  • Exchanges

Another week, another update on third-party exchanges. Voting opportunities to get NXT / ARDR / IGNIS listed continue to exist.

HitBTC Wake Up!

It is almost a sick joke now: how long does it take HitBTC? We have entered the FIFTH month since the IGNIS Airdrop and they have still not released the IGNIS. Ridiculous – please get your act together HitBTC. There is no good reason for not having enabled IGNIS trading and withdrawals.

Please help those Nxters with IGNIS still locked on the exchange. Feel free to RT the above.

What Happened to AEX ARDR Withdrawals?

Another exchange having problems with delivering on their promises to their users, in this case possibly due to language barriers, is the Chinese: AEX. They have NXT and IGNIS fully working, they distributed the IGNIS airdrop, enabled ARDR deposits and trading, but leave their users with no way to withdraw their ARDR. This has caused fury among traders on the exchange as well as all involved parties, and we hope to see what Lior (Jelurida) calls “a minor misunderstanding among friends” resolved ASAP.

Lior:

To whom it may concern, the problem with the AEX withdrawals is that in Ardor/Ignis withdrawal to a new account requires fee payment of 1 ARDR for the account creation + 0.01 for the payment fee so 1.01 ARDR in total converted to IGNIS. But AEX only paid 0.05 IGNIS transaction fee which is fine for normal transaction but not for transactions which create a new account.

If I recall, this problem has been discussed with them in the past. The best approach is for them to bundle their own transactions so they can submit all IGNIS transaction with 0 fee as explained in https://nxtwiki.org/wiki/Exchange_Integration_Ignis

Alternatively, they can check before performing the withdrawal if the account exists by calling the getAccount API and if not add IGNIS equivalent to 1 ARDR to the transaction fee.

While we wait for Jelurida and AEX to find a solution, hopefully, last week’s announcement that Chinese Nxters, fz1128 (Feng) and Zang (developer of WalletNxt) are taking on the task of promoting NXT and IGNIS in the AEX community, will help spread awareness about those tokens.

BUSINESSES ON ARDOR

  • Bitswift Child Chain Update

The upcoming bitswift.cash project is an exciting one. In their March newsletter, Bitswift informed the community that “Bitswift.cash will provide the accessibility options for our customers to easily enter the token ecosystem through Bitswift.” Bitswift.cash will utilize the Flexepin voucher system in which anyone may locally purchase a Flexepin voucher and redeem it on Bitswift.cash in exchange for Bitswift tokens at market rate. The following conversation highlights this idea.

LtBrix:

The bitswift.cash project, how will the CAD be taxed when entering via your gateway? I’m guessing that the legal side in this project is fairly complex.

Paul Busch, [In reply to LtBrix]

This is basically what we are waiting for at the moment. Our terms and privacy policy, accounting etc, word back from our lawyers etc. We still need to work out these details before going public.

My thinking is that there will be a service fee and that service fee will be taxable.

First we will get some people using it in closed beta as we iron out any glitches and prepare the business side for a smooth launch. http://www.bitswift.cash/ functions very similar to an exchange. You will redeem your voucher worth X amount of CAD. You will recive a quote so that you know how many Bitswift tokens X amount of CAD is going to net you. You will redeem the voucher and will be credited with X amount of Bitswift less the fee (which is taxable). Now you have Bitswift so you can send it to any other Bitswift account or trade it with any other token on the ACE [Ardor Coin Exchange]. You can also use it to export your CASH token into the blockchain. Everyone who is registered can claim free CASH token, and CASH trades with Bitswift token.

Basically its a convenient and ez exchange with some gamification options for the users.

Flexepin you can get pretty much anywhere, I think Canada Post even. If anyone wants to help in testing you can PM me.

Needless to say, Paul Busch has a deep understanding of Ardor’s blockchain capabilities and does his best to spread knowledge about its rich and useful features. The following is an example, where he compares how easy it is to issue a new currency on top of an Ardor child chain compared to doing the same thing on Ethereum:

How to issue a digital currency on Bitswift blockchain in under 2 minutes :
https://bitswift.wiki/index.php/File:Bitswift_-_A_practical_guide_to_creating_digital_currencies_on_the_Bitswift_blockchain_.pdf

How to issue a digital currency on Ethereum blockchain in under 20 minutes: https://medium.com/bitfwd/how-to-issue-your-own-token-on-ethereum-in-less-than-20-minutes-ac1f8f022793

Bitswift is also building a global digital copyright system to showcase how the Bitswift blockchain can be utilized for transparency purposes while proving immutable ownership of digital data.

The development/manufacturing of their CtC ATM’s are delayed, and so are the answers to the ‘Under The Knife’ interview that Nxter sent to their founder in late March. Eventually, we will have an in-depth interview with them. Until then, here is the updated whitepaper:

DEVELOPMENT

  • Ardor Lite Available on Google Play

In January we presented Ardor Lite, a project of community member mrv777. Lately, he has been working on an update which includes a revamped Ardor Coin Exchange UI. The app is still in development but is available for download from the Google Play store from the link below.

mrv777 wrote:

Brief Description: This is a basic lite wallet for the Ardor blockchain with local signing of transactions, so your passphrase is never sent over the net. You can send/receive tokens on any of Ardor’s chains and perform cross chain exchanges.

Everything except for the coin exchange should be fully working now. Hope to double check it all today. Then focus on finishing coin exchange and tweaking the interface and charts. After that, going back and adding a few missing things like showing unconfirmed transactions and more transaction details.

Anyone want to test? Especially the data on the coin exchange page. It looks like the volume numbers are off, but have the charts working now I believe.

Made some of those improvements and moved identIcons to receive and send tabs

  • Weekly Reminder – Hard Coded Limitations

Contrary to popular belief, blockchains are not magical panaceas: they are not software magic that is going to make everything better because “blockchain.” Ardor is a tool, and while it is great and you are free to create anything with this blockchain right now, it has its limits, like any blockchain or DAG.

Core developer and co-founder of Jelurida, Lior Yaffe, highlighted some hard-coded limitations within the Ardor blockchain. While these limitations are invisible to the casual user, developers, even investors and “power users”, should keep in mind the max number of transactions available. Why? Because you should understand what they actually mean, and how Ardor is designed to deal with it. A good starting point could be reading Lior’s article ‘Visa Scale Blockchain’ from Oct 21, 2017, in which he explains why such limitations are unavoidable and how Ardor solves this by design so that the Ardor platform will be able to scale globally, like the Visa network.

Lior wrote:

The existing hard coded limitation of Ardor are:
MAX_NUMBER_OF_FXT_TRANSACTIONS = 10; // no more than 10 parent chain transactions per block
MAX_NUMBER_OF_CHILD_TRANSACTIONS = 100; // no more than 100 child chain transactions per child chain block transaction
MAX_CHILDBLOCK_PAYLOAD_LENGTH = 128 * 1024; // child chain block transaction payload size is limited to 128K

There is not limit on the number of child chains.

There is a limit that there is only one child chain block transaction, per chain, per parent chain block.

  • Crypto Recorder – Ignis (IGNIS) – What’s behind the Pump?

This short article attempts to explain why there was a dramatic increase in IGNIS’s price last week.

They wrote:

Second, Ignis is quite an interesting project, with some solid fundamentals to back up its value. Ignis is a child-chain of the Ardor blockchain. As such, it makes use of all the benefits of the Ardor blockchain. One of the benefits of this is security. Ignis intends to offer an asset exchange that is highly secure because it is designed to run on the Ardor security network.

  • CryptoPotato – How Jelurida’s Ardor Platform Could Revolutionize the Crypto Industry

This intriguing article mentions a cogent point about Ardor: it is uniquely situated, by virtue of its design, to be able to easily interact with oracles. Oracles will undoubtedly become a major buzzword around Ardor. In short, an oracle is a piece of software that has the ability to programmatically add data stored off-chain, like on your computer or a company’s server, and add it onto a blockchain like Ardor. They wrote:

Oracle Contracts on Ardor
Unlike Ethereum contracts, Ardor contracts are not executed by every node. They are only executed by one or more selected nodes. This is one of the reasons why the Ardor platform is ideal for oracle implementation, as this would allow it to retrieve information from external resources and record it on the blockchain.

The marketplace for these software models is growing exponentially – and the demand is only expected to increase in the future.

Large-scale corporations like IBM and Microsoft are already seeing the potential for the huge market presence of this highly specialized software, and they are even beginning to develop their own platforms.

As the number of use cases for smart contracts continues to increase, it is clear that the requirement for these new oracle contracts will also rise in the future. The companies at the forefront of oracle development right now will be the ones to benefit most in the near future.

AEUR Token Conclusion

The AEUR token can be used to purchase any of the assets on the Ardor platform. The tokens can also be exchanged for ARDR or any child chain tokens, providing a simple entry point into the Ardor ecosystem from Euro-using countries. 1 AEUR is pegged to 1 EUR, and that exchange rate is guaranteed through a partner bank.
