Nxter News – August 2018 (III): Sometimes It’s Not The Strength But Gentleness That Cracks The Hardest Shells

August (III)

Welcome, dear Nxters and other followers!

The Nxt community has always been known as one of the friendliest and most helpful in crypto. Now we’re growing again, with the creation of Ardor, new assets, and new child chains, new Nxters join our ecosystem from all over the world. We welcome you. Investors too.

Now, if you invested some (maybe too much?) of your time or hard earned money into a project, it’s easy – and popular – to let your frustrations spill over if you don’t see your investment “moon” instantly as planned. It’s not easy to always stay calm and judicious in a time where empty marketing promises, vaporware, and scam ICO’s seem to be popping up everywhere you look and making a win, granted. And it’s hard to know who to believe in, in a fastmoving, competitive, and very complex world.

Jealousy, fear of the competition, and FOMO can turn into anger, maybe even paranoia, and to let these feelings take control is easy too. This is where you might start bashing developers, the marketing department, sometimes even your own community, your friends – or the competition. Maybe you advised a friend to buy a token, and he lost on it? You feel like defending yourself – by punishing someone. Can war be avoided? Breath… Answer: it depends if you listen to your heart or your head. Breath… What if it’s ok you don’t know everything? What if the competition is not really an enemy but could be seen as a motivational factor? Maybe your seething hatred will vanish if you find out that Ardor – or its competition – is really inspiring, breaking new grounds in the ongoing development of blockchain technology, exploring new possibilities.

On Ardor, much progress was made last week. After much hype and anticipation, we have the ability to learn and use Lightweight Contracts and Transactional Vouchers on the latest experimental release of the Ardor testnet (v2.1.0e), the final map of the Nxter Summer Quest is here, Lior wants StackExchange to be the primary medium for discussion and FAQ’s for the new functionality added to the testnet in the latest release, the Ardor presence on Reddit is growing, with new chat rooms created last week, more documentation was created/updated about Lightweight Contracts and Transactional Vouchers, updates from various child chains and Ignis assets, the Bittrex exchange is promoting the ability to trade USD from your crypto account, and much more.

Thank you for letting us gently inform you about the blockchains we know and love through the week that was.

This week’s newsletter is put together by apenzl, Jose, James, and rubenbc.

  • Jelurida – Updates

Lightweight Contracts and Vouchers live on Testnet!

The holidays are certainly over. Last week Jelurida released Ardor version 2.1.0e along with a mobile app, an experimental release that features Ignis Lightweight Contracts and Vouchers. In order to spur adoption among devs, serious feedback is asked to be given publicly on bitcoin.stackexchange. While the communities that have been created on slack, nxtforum, et.al., are wonderful, they are flawed because they are “walled” and relatively hard to find, as opposed to the open nature of stack exchange.

  •  Ardor v2.1.0e (Testnet)

Lior announced:

Folks, as you can see we just released the lightweight contract feature on testnet, This feature represents over 6 man month of development work. It has many moving pieces and I’m sure you’ll all have many questions and surely you will discover issues. Remember that the key to adoption of Ardor is to attract developers. In order to attract developers we need to push public information. If all our updates remain in a walled gardens like nxtforum and our slack and telegram channels, new developers won’t be able to learn about our platform.

Therefore we ask that all questions about Ardor contracts will be posted in https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com

This will make all our answers public and will help us build knowledge base and our user reputation towards the creation of a stack exchange site dedicated to Ardor.

The reason we like stackoverflow and stackexchange is that they get great Google ranking and are known to provide quality information.
Registration cannot be simpler and we promise to follow up quickly on any question (if we somehow missed something let us know).

Download: https://jelurida.com

This is an experimental release. It is a mandatory upgrade only for testnet nodes, but can also be run on mainnet. On testnet, a hardfork to enable the lightweight contracts feature has been scheduled at height 341500.

  • Nxter Puzzle: Summer Quest Part V

This week it will rain tokens on fast and smart Nxter puzzlers. Our last city-walk is in Krems an der Donau (Krems), Austria, and the announcement of the final word in the ANG-sponsored 1000 IGNIS account challenge will occur at the Purposeful Games Hackathon in that same city this weekend.

Reveal all words of Stage V and get access to the Stage V Ignis account (remember to keep the passphrase as you will need it to take part in the final stage of the Summer Quest).

The Summer Quest Stage V map can be found here:

Summer Quest

There is also a chance to win 1000 DOM tokens mid-week, as Dominium announces the final word in last week’s Bonus Puzzle passphrase @ 12:00 ECT on August 24th. Countdown and rules here

Remember – if you want to try and collect the 1000 $DOM you must first solve Summer Quest Part IV, it’s needed in order to complete the passphrase to the secret account with the tokens.

All Nxter Puzzles are listed here – and there are still more IGNIS to be claimed:

  • New Ardor Chat Rooms on Reddit

Last week long-time community member – patoshi – created two chat rooms on r/Ardor. Reddit is great. What is not so great is how lacking the Ardor presence is, so here’s another chance for you to engage with it – or simply migrate.

I’ve made 2 chat rooms on reddit ardor. “General” and “Developers”.

Reddit is where all the crypto heads are. This would enable any reddit user to just hop into these ardor chatrooms without the need to download slack,
hence improving adoption and growing the reddit ardor community.

Up to u guys to decide if you want to migrage to reddit chatrooms.
something to test out.

  • Meetup Reminders (By Order)

ANG and the community continue to compile the blockchain Meetup events across our international ecosystem.

      • Hackathon / Gamejam time, August 24-26th in Austria

The time for the first Austrian Purposeful Gaming Hackathon is closing in.

From August 24th – 26th 2018 the Center for Applied Game Studies at Donau University Krems is hosting its first Blockchain Hackathon meets Game Jam Hybrid” event, where Lior Yaffe from Jelurida will also debut and showcase the Lightweight Contract functionality on the Ardor testnet!

This event is free to participate in the conference and/or the hackathon, you just have to pre-register here. The registration will be closed on August 21st.

From the website:

The start of the event is organized as a conference to get in touch not only with blockchain technology, but to also learn more about games with a purpose and about the possibilities you have as young entrepreneur in this particular field.

The participants of the hackathon will be split into two groups with the purpose to create a collector’s game with an educative purpose. An example would be to build a collectible card-game about the “17th century Tulip-Mania” in Amsterdam. The winning team will get a bounty powered by Jelurida.

The program looks awesome! See it here.

  • Dominium ITO Update + SCAM Alert

The big day arrived: on August 14th the Dominium pre-ITO began.

Unfortunately, something else happened too: the crypto market crashed, and the overbooked $DOM pre-ITO did NOT sell out, as more than a few pre-orders were not re-ordered and confirmed. This leaves a chance for others who did not get on the list to attend and participate. We also bring to your attention a SCAM that pretends to be the people behind Dominium asking for money to be sent to a BTC / ETC address: something you will NEVER need to do to interact with the Dominium platform!

Gudo Thijssen:

Hi Everyone.
A big day for Dominium and for most of us a long day too. Many orders still need to be confirmed, but we wanted to thank you for sticking with us today.

We (like everyone else) are hoping for a speedy recovery of the crypto markets, so the pre-ITO can be filled quickly, but it does leave a great opportunity for those who missed out on the Whitelist.

The devs have managed to make the website more stable and faster. Monday we hope to be super fast and 100% stable and then we will start with the marketing campaigns again. Yes we lost a week of the pre-ITO, but better this way than putting a plaster on something and hoping for the best. Long term solutions take longer, but give less headaches after (or so we hope).

Ardor isn’t a famous coin, and will its price affect DOM?

Dominium Admin:
Hi nxt6666. The price of Ardor has nothing to do with Dominium. We believe in Ardor and once we have our platform live, people will see a proper use case for it. Maybe Dominium will be more famous than Ardor, or maybe Dominium will make Ardor famous. Who knows right.

@nxt6666 my understanding is that most people involved with Ardor care a lot about features, usability, scalability, and security. They believe focusing on these issues will be best for the demand for Ardor transactions and coins in the long run. Also, that approach seemed to work well in 2017 – Ardor was #3 most profitable crypto asset, beating bitcoin’s 1318% rise with a stunning 16809% rise.

  • C2C Updates

A month ago IDAX announced that they added Ignis-based C2C to their crypto exchange.

Today, a trading campaign was announced which will reward the next month’s top 50 traders of C2C tokens with 560,406 C2C.

C2C contest announcement on IDAX

CoinMarketCap now lists C2C, the first Ignis asset listed by them.

Travin Keith wrote:

C2C is the first Ardor asset on CMC – https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/c2c-system/#markets

The C2C system wants to make it convenient to convert any paper currency and coins into many different cryptocurrencies, including the C2C currency itself. With strategically located ATMs, travelers should no longer need to worry about leftover paper bills and coins from the remaining purchases after a business trip. In some locations, travelers who do not want to be exposed to market volatility will be able to choose the AEUR coin, a coin that is pegged 1:1 with the Euro by ArdorGate in cooperation with MisterTango. C2C is an asset token issued on the Ardor platform.

  • EZYcount – Private Token Sale

On August 15, Phase 2 of the EZY TaaL token sale began.

15 AUG-14 SEP:

15 SEP-15 OCT:

EZYcount is an online accounting software developed in Switzerland for self-employed and SMB’s. The goal of the token sale is to raise funds for AI integration into the EZYcount accounting and invoicing software so that, hopefully, within two years the product will be mature enough to automatically do ALL your accounting for you by observing and learning what transactions are for what purposes (rent, bills, tax deduction etc.). EZYcount will be using a new software licensing model called Token as a License (Taal). This token will represent a lifelong and tradeable software license for EZYcount solutions.

You can purchase EZY TaaL tokens with USD, CHF, EUR, BTC, ETH, LTC, ARDR and all Ardor child chain tokens. If EZYcount does not reach their minimum target of CHF 1 million, they will refund all amounts invested.

In a recent blog post, EZYcount wrote it has also applied for an Accounting startup Accelerator program.

  • Bitswift Child Chain Update

Canadian Bitswift is getting ready to release their $CASH tokens. Becoming a point of entry into the crypto world for the average Canadian person by converting Canadian dollars (CAD) into vouchers using the new Ardor Voucher System is only a part of the ambitious goal they work for.

Bitswiftbro explains to new users what the Bitswift child chain is all about:

The goal with Bitswift blockchain is to integrate and educate new users into the new token economy. Bitswift is setting up to become a low friction gateway to crypto. This means many new users will enter / exit crypto via Bitswift. Our focus is on the general public, not on the crypto-savvy nerds.

We have been busy with the business frameworks and support and installations force to make this possible which is why you see profitible and functional tech business operating behind bitswift gearing up to promote, educate and install. Tech business already has 500 + active clients, mom and pop shops, resteraunts, hotels, motels, people that trust our brand with their tech infrastructure etc. The tech business is composed of a group of independant contractors all collectivley working together to promote Bitswift products and services. We leach off eachothers skillsets more or less to provide the best solution for our customers.  Everyone is their own boss.

So we are well ahead of the game establishing trust and making business relationships.  If a business allows you to recommend and install their servers, and point of sale equipment, then who’s to say they are not going to take your advice when you start recommending they deal in crypto.  If it helps the business become more profitible and productive, why would we not recommend it?

I think if we can build out a fleet of people to provide a point of contact, a sense of trust, then it will be more easy for the average user to put their faith in crypto. This is part of the goal with our shop, simply to provide a mechanism to build trust among customers. When people receive their products from Bitswift, they are more opt to trust the brand. There is a bigger picture here than just some tech shop and tech company on the internet.

Our 500 customers  are already dealing with us, either purchasing products, or allowing us to support their IT infrastructure, some we already have into Bitswift as they were interested in Bitcoin and so we got talking about Bitswift during business meetings etc, and some show interest in purchasing.  This is part of the reason we are developing Bitswift.cash, we have had customers wanting to purchase crypto from us… enough requests that it was time to build a platform for them to purchase Bitswift tokens easily without the manual friction of dealing with me.

So the cash is being developed to integrate CAD and crypto, similar to Ardorgate but with Canadian banks?

^No to banks
but yes to CAD – > Crypto via the Ardor Voucher System.

Awesome. For the cash vouchers, do you need some type of license in Canada? If not, this would certainly be an interesting option for small shops that want to have customized rewards/gift card like system at almost no cost

No to license.
Anyone can buy these vouchers at Canada Post, Canadian Tire, convenience stores, etc.
Or you can buy them online : https://www.topmeup.ca/opv/Purchase.aspx?product=FLEXPE

Once you have a voucher code you can instantly convert it on our platform for bitswift tokens.

  • Nxtwiki.org update – Lightweight Contracts

We share Lior’s enthusiasm about the great many use cases that the Lightweight Contracts functionality provides and are happy to point you to further documentation! Lightweight Contracts are now executable on the Ardor testnet and Nxtwiki has been updated – yes, it is called nxtwiki.

Introduction to Lightweight Contracts

Lightweight Contracts represent a framework to develop a layer of automation on top of the existing Ardor APIs.

Contracts are developed by implementing pre-defined interfaces. The contract code is deployed to the blockchain as cloud data transaction which stores the code itself and a contract reference transaction which provides the trigger to activate the contract and provides the setup parameters.

Learn more about the concepts behind the lightweight contracts in this introduction article and review some frequently asked questions.

  • Blockchain Ardor #5: Transaction Vouchers

Demetrius released a new episode detailing the versatility of the newly released Transactional Vouchers feature on testnet.

  • Nxtwiki.org – Transaction Vouchers

More information has been added to the nxtwiki about these new and powerful transactional vouchers.

1 Introduction to Transaction Vouchers

See an article about transaction vouchers and their use cases.

Usage Example

Vouchers are useful when Alice wants Bob to pay her in a secure tamper proof way.

Assume that Alice wants Bob to pay her 100 IGNIS. Alice logs into the wallet using Bob’s address and using the normal send money dialog performs a payment from Bob to her account. She enters her passphrase and checks the voucher checkbox. As a result the wallet generates a digitally signed voucher which she sends to Bob as a json file or QR code off blockchain. Nothing is submitted to the blockchain at this stage.

Bob now uses the “Load Voucher” function from the wallet to load Alice’s voucher. He double checks all the details then signs and submits voucher to the blockchain.

The result is that Alice received her payment while Bob now has the voucher file or QR code which represents an invoice for his financial records. Alice got her tokens and Bob is sure that he really paid Alice and that Alice indeed has a passphrase to her account. This voucher is tamper proof.

  • Blockchain Platforms – Ardor vs EOS

EOS has excelled at turning hype into investor funding. They raised $4 BILLION! In the below comparison it is written that the EOS blockchain can run 1000 transactions-per-second (TPS) up to unlimited. Please, ground yourself in the truth people who shill themselves out to write about EOS.

Who is writing these articles? EOS doing 1000 tps to unlimited? Really?
Both this article and the Cardano one is comparing features working in production in the case of Ardor with marketing materials in the case of EOS and Cardano.

Maybe we should start saying how in the future Ardor tps may be unlimited….just don’t specify how far into the future XD

But it is not unlimited…
The EOS tps is not unlimited as well, in fact I can promise you they won’t do 1000 tps on mainet ever and perhaps not even 100 tps.
